Campgrounds and RV parks near Bryantown, MD

Water access defines much of the recreation. Aqua Land Campground sits along the Potomac near the Governor Harry Nice Bridge and puts campers close to rockfish and largemouth bass fishing. Goose Bay Marina and Campground has five piers, including a floating pier, three boat ramps, and 250 boat slips, making it a natural pick for RV renters traveling with a boat. On land, Cedarville State Forest is the headwaters of Zekiah Swamp and offers a stocked freshwater pond, an archery range, and miles of multi-use trails through pine and hardwood forest. Smallwood State Park adds hiking near the historic General Smallwood Retreat House, a fishing pier on Mattawoman Creek, and easy access to bass tournaments on the Potomac.

The Bryantown area has a humid subtropical climate: hot, sticky summers and mild winters with occasional snow. Cedarville State Forest's campground is open from April through October, so winter RV trips need to shift to private parks that operate year-round. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day there is a two-night minimum stay at Cedarville, and holiday weekends require a three-night minimum. Summer weekends are the peak booking window across the region, with Smallwood State Park's small loop and Cedarville's inner electric sites filling first. Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures, fewer bugs, and lighter demand at the private parks. Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, and remnant tropical systems can bring heavy rain to the mid-Atlantic in late summer and early fall. Low-lying loops and marina access can close briefly after big storms. Winter travelers should confirm which private campgrounds keep water lines open and which switch to dry-camping only.

Site setups vary by property. Smallwood State Park's campground features 18 campsites suitable for tents or RVs, plus six camper cabins. Each site includes a camping pad, 50-amp electric and potable water hookups, a picnic table, a lantern post, and a fire ring with grill attachment, and the loop has a bathhouse with hot showers and a dump station. Access into the campground can be tight, and larger rigs should plan carefully. At Cedarville, inner-loop sites have electric while outer-loop sites are primitive, with a central bathhouse and water spigots throughout the loop. Goose Bay offers roughly 110 shaded waterfront campsites with 30-amp and 50-amp service and water, three bathhouses, two dump stations, a pump-out, and a seasonal pool.
