Campgrounds near Delmar, Maryland
Delmar straddles the Maryland-Delaware line on the Delmarva Peninsula, roughly 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches at Ocean City and Assateague. The town itself is small and residential, so most RV travellers use it as a staging point for the surrounding state parks, state forests, and coastal resort campgrounds. Terrain is flat, wooded, and laced with tidal rivers, which keeps sites accessible for larger rigs but also means bugs and humidity in warm months.
Within an easy drive, options range from private resort parks to primitive public land. Woodlawn Camp Ground and Sandy Hill Family Camp serve family RV travellers, Sun Outdoors Ocean City Gateway sits near Ocean City as a full-amenity resort, and Shad Landing - Pocomoke River State Park offers state-park camping on the cypress-lined Pocomoke River. Redden State Forest sits north in Sussex County, Delaware.
Delmar works well as a base for RV renters who want beach days without staying inside the busiest resort corridors.
Things to do near Delmar
Water activities dominate the region. Shad Landing - Pocomoke River State Park provides a full-service marina with boat ramp, seasonal kayak and SUP rentals from Memorial Day through Labor Day, a fishing pier, two playgrounds, and over four miles of hiking trails through the Pocomoke forest. A fishing pond, nature center with live animal exhibits, and direct river access for anglers round out the on-water options.
Ocean City beaches, the boardwalk, and Assateague Island National Seashore with its wild horses are all inside an hour. Sun Outdoors Ocean City Gateway sits close to Ocean City, Assateague Island, and Berlin, and typically offers family-oriented amenities such as a swimming pool, dog park, and general store.
Inland, Redden State Forest covers a large tract in central Sussex County and offers miles of trails for hiking, biking, and bird watching.

The Delmarva Peninsula has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are warm, muggy, and wet; winters are cold and windy, and coastal breezes can drop summer highs on the shore several degrees below inland readings. Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Ocean City area campgrounds fill and public parks book out weekends well in advance.
Shoulder seasons are the sweet spot for RV renters. Late April through mid-June brings mild temperatures, active bird migration through the Pocomoke bottomlands, and fewer biting insects, while September and October deliver warm days, cooler nights, and lighter crowds. At Shad Landing, Water's Edge and Robin's Nest loops stay open year-round; other loops typically run spring through fall.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Many private resorts close, state park loops shrink to a handful of year-round sites, and Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks in late August and September, can affect coastal reservations.

It was an amazing experience! The RV was new and very clean with paper products and some chairs and a table!
Cristina B. - Sep 2026
The RV was exactly what we needed and as pictured. We would 100% would rent again and would recommend. There were many things that we packed, thinking there would be nothing in the RV; but there were paper plates, paper towels, toilet paper, utensils: plastic reusable cups, bowls, pots, pans, a strainer, knives, and plates. There was also a boogie board, pillows, scented spray and multiple cleaning supplies, as well as hand soap. The RV was clean and set up properly when we arrived. There were also 2 outdoor reclining chairs and an outdoor table. The awning worked as it should, as well as the electric and generator. The stove was propane and had propane there already. The generator (additional cost) worked great and was easy to start, and refilled with gas. The electric was mostly solar power. The toilet worked well. We didnt utilize the shower, so we dont know about that, but they did fill our water tank for us prior to arrival. Overall, would absolutely recommend if you're looking for a great company to rent an RV from!

How to book a campsite near Delmar
Public land in the area uses two separate reservation systems. For Maryland state parks including Shad Landing, reservations are available via parkreservations.maryland.gov or 1-888-432-2267. Delaware state forest camping is available 365 days a year at Blackbird State Forest and Redden State Forest, and state forests only allow tent camping: pickup campers, travel trailers, and self-propelled motor homes are excluded due to access and parking limitations. RV renters should treat Redden as tent-only and plan on a Maryland state park or a private resort for a rig.
Private parks like Sun Outdoors Ocean City Gateway book directly through the operator. Reserve summer weekends and holidays two to three months out, and longer for holiday weeks. Book early for summer weekends, particularly for an electric site in the Acorn Trail or Deer Run loop at Shad Landing, as those loops fill faster than the non-electric options.
What to expect
Sites near Delmar are generally flat and wooded, with pine and mixed hardwood cover. Private resorts offer full hookups, paved or gravel pads, and family amenities, plus tent and cabin options. State park sites tend toward electric-only or non-electric, with centralized bathhouses and a dump station rather than sewer hookups at each site.
Rig size matters on state land. At Shad Landing, RVs up to 50 feet are permitted, though reviewers note that anything over 35 feet may have difficulty maneuvering into the tighter spots. Cell service is generally reliable near towns and along Route 50, spottier deep in the state forests.
Expect mosquitoes, ticks, and greenhead flies in warm months, especially near tidal wetlands. Bring bug spray, and check pets after trail walks.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Delmar, MD?
An RV rental in Delmar is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Delmarva Peninsula. On RVezy, motorhomes near Delmar typically range from about $150 to $250 per night, while travel trailers and fifth wheels often run $90 to $160 per night, and many hosts offer weekly or monthly discounts. A regular Class C non-commercial driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Delmar, Maryland for any standard motorhome, campervan, or travel trailer under 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) confirms that recreational vehicles used for personal travel are exempt from Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements. You will need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to roll toward Ocean City.
mva.maryland.gov/drivers/Pages/recreational-vehicle-info.aspxIs my RV rental in Delmar protected if something goes wrong on the trip?
Every RV rental in Delmar booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can cross the Bay Bridge or head down Route 13 with peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip and you choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host, so you can match it to your comfort. Combined with around-the-clock roadside help for issues like flat tires, lockouts, and towing, it removes the biggest worry first-time renters have when heading to Assateague or Chincoteague.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change after I book my Delmar RV rental?
Booking an RV rental in Delmar is low risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, not individual hosts. That means consistent, predictable rules across every Delmar listing, including a grace period right after booking so you have time to firm up plans. The exact refund depends on how far out your trip is and circumstances such as severe weather, which can matter on the Eastern Shore during hurricane season from June through November. You can review the current cancellation details on RVezy or reach out to customer support before booking for a clear walkthrough.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Delmar RV trip?
Yes, many hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Delmar, and the surrounding Eastern Shore is genuinely dog-friendly. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see motorhomes and trailers that welcome four-legged co-pilots. Once you are rolling, Pocomoke River State Park allows leashed pets in designated loops, and Assateague State Park permits pets in select loops seasonally, so check current rules when you book. Bring a long lead, plenty of water, and waste bags, the Atlantic breeze keeps dogs happy and the wild ponies will keep them curious.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/eastern/Assateague.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Delmar?
Yes, RV delivery in Delmar is one of the smartest moves for first-time renters, and many local hosts will drop the rig at your campground or set it up in your driveway. Filter for Delivery on RVezy, then message the host to confirm fees and distance. Popular delivery destinations from Delmar include Sun Outdoors Frontier Town in Berlin, Pocomoke River State Park in Snow Hill, and Assateague State Park near Ocean City. The host handles parking, leveling, and a full walkthrough so you can start your vacation the moment you arrive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Delmar%2C%20MarylandHow far can I drive my RV rental from Delmar?
Delmar sits in a sweet spot on the Delmarva Peninsula, putting major destinations within an easy day's drive. From Delmar you can reach Ocean City, MD in about 35 minutes (around 30 miles), Assateague Island National Seashore in roughly 50 minutes (about 40 miles), Chincoteague, VA in about 75 minutes (about 55 miles), Rehoboth Beach, DE in around 50 minutes (about 35 miles), and Washington, DC in about 2.5 to 3 hours (about 130 miles). Each host sets their own mileage policy, so message before booking if you want an RV rental with unlimited mileage. Many Delmar hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night.
nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Delmar, MD?

dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/eastern/pocomoke/camping.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Delmar?
The best window for a Delmar RV trip is late April through mid-October, with shoulder seasons offering the best mix of weather and value. Summer (June through August) brings highs in the mid-80s with high humidity, ideal for the beach but buggier in the marshes. May, September, and early October typically deliver 65 to 80 degree days, fewer mosquitoes, and easier campground availability at Assateague and Pocomoke River. Winters stay mild at roughly 35 to 55 degrees, and Assateague's bayside loops remain open year-round for quiet, off-season pony watching.
weather.gov/akq/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting one in Delmar?
Absolutely, Delmar is one of the easiest places in the country to learn because the Eastern Shore is famously flat, with wide rural roads and straightforward highways like Route 13 and Route 50. First time renting an RV? Your host gives you a complete walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, the propane system, and the dump station, and you can message them anytime during your trip. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery and setup. Pro tip: do your first practice drive on the quiet back roads around Mardela Springs before heading to Ocean City traffic.
mva.maryland.gov/drivers/Pages/recreational-vehicle-info.aspxWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one call away whether you are on the Route 50 bridge into Ocean City or parked at Shad Landing in Pocomoke River State Park. Roadside assistance covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Your host is also reachable directly through the RVezy app for quick questions about the RV's systems, and RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip if you need a hand.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Delmar RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is one of the best parts of renting from Delmar because the town literally sits on the Maryland and Delaware state line. Most RVezy hosts welcome trips throughout the lower 48 states, including popular routes from Delmar to Virginia Beach (about 3 hours), the Outer Banks (about 5 hours), or Lancaster, PA Amish country (about 2.5 hours). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance coverage, so message the host directly to confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Delmar RV trip?
Fuel is very manageable for an RV road trip from Delmar because the terrain is flat and distances to top destinations are short. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, travel trailers pulled by a truck average 10 to 14 mpg, and Class B campervans can reach 18 to 22 mpg. With Maryland and Delaware gas prices generally near the national average, a week-long loop from Delmar to Ocean City to Assateague to Chincoteague (around 250 miles) usually runs $80 to $150 in fuel. Pro tip: top up in Delaware on your way out since pump prices there are often slightly lower.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campsite near Delmar?
Book early and you will have your pick of the best sites for RV camping near Delmar and the surrounding Eastern Shore. Assateague Island National Seashore takes reservations on Recreation.gov up to six months ahead, and oceanside sites for summer weekends often sell out the day they release. Maryland state parks like Pocomoke River use the Maryland DNR reservation system and also fill quickly for July and August. Privately run parks can usually be booked closer in. Aim 4 to 6 months out for July, or target shoulder-season weekdays for more spontaneous trips.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232489What are the local driving conditions like around Delmar?
Driving an RV around Delmar is refreshingly low stress thanks to flat terrain, gentle curves, and well-maintained roads. Route 13 is the main north-south corridor with wide lanes that suit larger rigs, while Route 50 is your direct route east to Ocean City and Assateague. Plan around summer Saturday beach traffic on Route 50 by traveling before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m., and be ready for sudden afternoon thunderstorms from June through August. Coastal wind gusts on the Verrazano Bridge to Assateague Island can push high-profile rigs, so keep both hands on the wheel and reduce speed when crossing.
chart.maryland.gov/What hookups and amenities do campgrounds near Delmar offer?
Campgrounds near Delmar cover the full spectrum from full-hookup parks to rustic National Seashore sites. Pocomoke River State Park's Shad Landing area has electric hookups in select loops, hot-water bathhouses, flush toilets, and a dump station for sewage and potable water. Assateague Island National Seashore is more primitive, with vault toilets, drinking water, and cold rinse showers seasonally, but year-round dump station access and oceanfront sites make it iconic. Many private RV parks in the area add full hookups, Wi-Fi, and pools. Pro tip: dump your tanks before crossing the Verrazano Bridge to the island.
nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhat features and amenities come with a typical Delmar RV rental?
Most RVs on RVezy near Delmar arrive trip-ready with a real bed (often a queen), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, a propane furnace, dinette seating with seatbelts, and an exterior awning. Many listings include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor camp chairs, and some offer Wi-Fi hotspots or Starlink as an add-on, which is handy because cell coverage on Assateague can be patchy. Class C motorhome rentals in Delmar typically sleep 4 to 6, while travel trailers can sleep up to 10. Filter by sleeps count to match your group.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Delmar%2C%20MarylandWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I book?
Hosts in Delmar often offer useful add-ons like generators, bike racks, kayak racks, outdoor grills, linen and kitchen kits, paddleboards, and pre-filled propane tanks. Mileage policies vary by listing, so check each one closely: many include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles billed per mile. Some hosts include generator hours for off-grid Assateague nights, while others offer local delivery within a set radius for a fee. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Delmar, with a full walkthrough included. Pro tip: bundle delivery with a bike rack for the Assateague hiker/biker path.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Delmar%2C%20MarylandHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform when you book, with no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the rental cost and released after your trip once the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues, take date-stamped photos inside and outside at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks at a dump station such as the one at Shad Landing in Pocomoke River State Park. Easy in, easy out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the top road trip destinations from Delmar?
An RV road trip from Delmar puts iconic Mid-Atlantic destinations within easy reach. Head about 40 miles east to Assateague Island National Seashore to camp beside wild horses on a 37-mile barrier island. Drive about 30 miles southeast to Ocean City for a boardwalk packed with food and arcades. Cruise about 55 miles south to Chincoteague, VA, famous for its annual pony swim each July. Roll about 35 miles north to Rehoboth Beach, DE for tax-free shopping and nearby Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton. Or head about 130 miles west to Washington, DC for a capital weekend. Local tip: stop in historic Berlin, MD for ice cream on the way home.
