Campgrounds and RV parks near Drum Point, MD

Drum Point sits at the southern tip of Calvert County, Maryland, where the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake Bay. The community is next door to Solomons, a working waterfront town that serves as the practical base for RV travelers exploring the lower Western Shore. Campgrounds cluster on both sides of the Patuxent, with additional options across the Potomac in Virginia's Northern Neck. The closest full-service option is Take It Easy Campground in Callaway, a family-owned park with 242 sites open year-round, most offering full hookups with 30/50 amp service. Taylors Island Family Campgrounds sits on the Chesapeake Bay to the east on Maryland's Eastern Shore, and Point Lookout State Park anchors the peninsula tip in St. Mary's County. Coles Point Marina and RV Resort and Smith Point Marina extend the search across the Potomac into Virginia's Northern Neck. Most trips combine one campground with day trips into Solomons for the Calvert Marine Museum, seafood on the boardwalk, and access to the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge into St. Mary's County.

Point Lookout State Park bookings go through the Maryland state reservation system. Reservations can be made by calling 1-888-432-2267 or through parkreservations.maryland.gov, and the booking window extends up to 365 days in advance. Summer weekends and holidays should be locked in as early as possible. Private campgrounds handle their own reservations directly. Take It Easy Campground books by phone or through third-party platforms, and Taylors Island Family Campgrounds, Coles Point Marina and RV Resort, and Smith Point Marina accept direct reservations for transient sites, with a limited number of pull-through and waterfront spots that go quickly on holiday weekends. Day-use entry at Point Lookout also requires advance booking on weekends and holidays through parkdayuse.maryland.gov, separate from any camping reservation.
