RV camping near Friendship Village, Maryland
Friendship Village sits inside the Bethesda area of Montgomery County, just north of the Washington, D.C. line and roughly five miles from the National Mall. The neighborhood itself is dense and residential, so RV travelers use it as a launch point and stay at campgrounds ringing the capital, most within a 20 to 45 minute drive.
The closest full-service RV park is Cherry Hill Park in College Park, a family-owned campground with full hookups, cabins, and transit connections to downtown D.C. Greenbelt Park Campground, run by the National Park Service, offers a quieter, primitive alternative about ten miles from the Washington Monument. Ramblin' Pines sits farther north toward Woodbine and works for travelers combining a D.C. trip with a swing through central Maryland.
For a more rural stay, Cedarville State Forest and Smallwood State Park lie south in Charles and Prince George's counties, offering state-park camping along wooded trails and Mattawoman Creek.
Things to do near Friendship Village
The main draw is Washington, D.C. From most nearby campgrounds, the Metro or a shuttle reaches the National Mall, the Smithsonian museums, the U.S. Capitol, and the memorials without the parking headache of driving an RV downtown. Cherry Hill Park runs organized sightseeing tours and offers bus service to a Metro station.
Outdoor options are close by. Greenbelt Park has about nine miles of wooded trails and picnic areas within the National Park boundary. Cedarville State Forest offers hiking, mountain biking, a stocked fishing pond, and equestrian trails across roughly 3,500 acres. Smallwood State Park sits on Mattawoman Creek with a marina, boat launches, bass fishing, and kayak access to a Potomac tributary.
Bethesda itself has restaurants, shopping at Friendship Heights, and easy access to the Capital Crescent Trail for cyclists.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the D.C. region. April and May bring cherry blossoms, mild temperatures, and manageable humidity, while September and October offer clear days and cooler nights. Both shoulder seasons see heavy demand around cherry blossom peak bloom and fall foliage weekends, so sites at Cherry Hill Park and Greenbelt Park book out well in advance.
Summer is peak family season and also the hottest, most humid stretch. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from June through August, and the Atlantic hurricane season can bring remnants of tropical systems inland in late summer and early fall.
Winter is quieter. Greenbelt Park Campground stays open year-round, and Cherry Hill Park operates through the cold months as well. Maryland state park campgrounds, including Cedarville State Forest, generally run a seasonal schedule and close for the winter, while Smallwood State Park keeps its family campground available year-round.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Both VANessa and Vanessa were awesome. All the amenities are thoughtfully available. Van drove well and my son and I had a trip we’ll talk about for years and remember forever. Vanessa is a great communicator and great person. 5+ stars.

Had an amazing travel experience with VANessa and Vanessa was a joy to work with. So very accommodating. The van is beautiful and has everything you could want. Even my pup Seamus gave it two paws up!

How to book campgrounds near Friendship Village
Reservation systems vary by operator. Greenbelt Park Campground is booked through Recreation.gov, with a six-month booking window and no on-site cash payment. The campground is primitive, with no hookups, but includes flush toilets, showers, and a dump station.
Maryland state park sites, including Cedarville State Forest and Smallwood State Park, are reserved through parkreservations.maryland.gov or by calling the Maryland Park Service at 1-888-432-2267, with a booking window of up to twelve months in advance. A two-night minimum applies on weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and holiday weekends require three nights.
Cherry Hill Park and Ramblin' Pines are private campgrounds and take reservations directly through their own websites. For peak spring and summer weekends, book two to three months out; cherry blossom season and the July 4 week fill fastest.
What to expect
Expect a mix of urban-adjacent and wooded camping. Cherry Hill Park offers full hookups, pools, a hot tub, laundry, a cafe, and a general store, and is designed to handle large rigs. Greenbelt Park has paved parking spurs but has no electric or water hookups, and most sites suit RVs of 35 feet or less, with the National Park Service recommending D Loop for RVs.
The state park campgrounds are smaller and more rustic. Smallwood State Park has fifteen sites with electric hookups near the marina, while Cedarville State Forest offers a mix of electric and primitive sites in a quiet forest setting with a 35-foot RV limit.
Ticks are active in the Mid-Atlantic from spring through fall, so pack repellent. Traffic on the Capital Beltway is heavy at rush hour; plan arrivals and departures outside peak commute windows.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Friendship%20Village%2C%20MarylandWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Friendship Village, Maryland?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Friendship Village. Maryland does not require a special RV license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for the motorhomes, campervans, or travel trailers on RVezy, regardless of size. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and you'll upload your license through the platform so it can be verified before pickup. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local automobile association. Most first time renters in the DC metro area are surprised how quick the verification is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Friendship Village protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Friendship Village booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan helps cover accidental damage to the vehicle, giving you peace of mind while you explore Maryland, DC, and beyond. During checkout you choose the coverage level that fits your trip, so you stay in control (hosts don't set this for you). Coverage is provided through RVezy's protection program rather than traditional auto insurance, which makes first time renting an RV feel low stress. Pro tip: drivers headed into downtown DC or along the busy Capital Beltway often choose a higher coverage tier for added confidence in city traffic.

You can book your Friendship Village RV trip with confidence because RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, which includes a full money-back grace period right after booking. If your plans shift during that window, you can cancel and get your money back. Beyond the grace period, refunds depend on how close to your trip start date you cancel, and special circumstances like severe weather can affect your options. Full details are in your booking confirmation and the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best RVs near Friendship Village, knowing flexibility is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Friendship Village?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Friendship Village options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see only listings whose hosts welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Once you're rolling, the DC metro is a dream for dog owners: Rock Creek Park has miles of leashed trails just minutes away, the Capital Crescent Trail runs right through Bethesda, and Battery Kemble Park is a popular off-leash spot nearby. For overnight stays, Cherry Hill Park in College Park and Greenbelt Park (run by the National Park Service) both allow leashed pets. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and ask if they leave a water bowl or pet bed in the rig.
nps.gov/rocr/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to me in Friendship Village instead of picking it up?
Yes, RV delivery Friendship Village is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you're nervous about driving a big rig through the DC metro. Many local hosts will deliver the RV directly to your campground, a friend's driveway, or a staging spot like Cherry Hill Park in College Park or the Washington DC/Capitol KOA in Millersville. They'll level it, hook it up, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Delivery fees are set by each host and depend on distance, RV type, and setup time. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on the RVezy search page and message two or three hosts to compare delivery quotes for your exact dates.
montgomeryparks.org/parks-and-trails/How far can I drive on an RV rental from Friendship Village?

From here you can reach Shenandoah National Park in about 90 miles, Assateague Island National Seashore in roughly 150 miles, Harpers Ferry in West Virginia in just 65 miles, Gettysburg in about 80 miles, and Ocean City, MD in around 145 miles. An RV road trip from Friendship Village could easily loop the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway in under a week. Pro tip: check each listing's mileage policy in the pricing section, and message the host if your route adds up to more than the included miles.
nps.gov/shen/index.htmWhere can I camp with my RV near Friendship Village, MD?
You're spoiled for choice with great campgrounds near Friendship Village. Cherry Hill Park in College Park (about 12 miles away) is the closest full-hookup RV resort to DC, with a pool, dog park, and shuttle to the Metro. Greenbelt Park, run by the National Park Service, offers wooded sites just inside the Beltway with no hookups but excellent value. Little Bennett Regional Park in Clarksburg (about 25 miles north) has 91 sites with electric hookups in a forested setting. Washington DC/Capitol KOA in Millersville and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts in Crofton round out solid choices within an hour. Pro tip: Cherry Hill books up fast for spring cherry blossom season and July 4th, so reserve at least 2 to 3 months ahead.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htmWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Friendship Village?
Friendship Village sits in a sweet spot of the Mid-Atlantic, so the RV season is genuinely long here. April and May are spectacular, with cherry blossoms in DC and average highs of 65 to 75 F. September through late October is arguably the best window: crisp days in the 60s and 70s, no humidity, and stunning fall foliage on Skyline Drive. Summer (June to August) brings highs in the upper 80s and humidity, but it's prime time for Assateague's wild ponies and Ocean City. Winters are mild compared to New England, with January highs around 43 F, so shoulder-season RV camping Friendship Village trips are very doable. Pro tip: book around peak cherry blossom (late March to early April) at least 60 days out.
weather.gov/lwx/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay?
Yes, first time renting an RV in the Friendship Village area is easier than people expect, and RVezy hosts make sure of it. At pickup (or delivery), your host gives you a full walkthrough of every system: water, propane, the generator, slide-outs, the awning, dumping, and driving tips specific to that rig. You can message them any time during your trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking. Many local hosts even leave printed cheat sheets in the RV. Pro tip: book a Class B campervan or small Class C for your first trip out of the DC metro, both are easier to maneuver on the Capital Beltway than a 35-foot Class A, and most fit in standard parking spots at trailheads like Great Falls Park.
nps.gov/grfa/index.htmWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my trip from Friendship Village?
Take a deep breath, you're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so help is one phone call away whether you're parked on Wisconsin Avenue or 300 miles down Skyline Drive. The roadside team handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical issues. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, since they know their RV best and can troubleshoot fast. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip too. Pro tip: snap photos of the dashboard and any warning lights before you call, and note your nearest exit or mile marker. On I-495 or I-270 around DC, that detail speeds up dispatch significantly.
roads.maryland.gov/Can I take my Friendship Village RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is one of the best parts of an RV rental in Friendship Village, MD. You're 5 miles from DC, 15 minutes from Virginia, and an easy drive to Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Delaware, all included on standard RVezy bookings. Many guests do classic loops through Shenandoah, Gettysburg, and Harpers Ferry, or head to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval and confirmed insurance coverage, so message the host before booking if that's your plan. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a Friendship Village to Charleston, SC route hits Richmond, Williamsburg, and the Outer Banks beautifully in 10 days.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Friendship Village?
Fuel is one of your biggest variables, but easy to plan for. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle's MPG will drop 30 to 40 percent while towing. Maryland gas prices typically run close to the national average, with diesel slightly higher. For a 500-mile loop to Shenandoah and back in a Class C, budget roughly $180 to $220 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Frederick, MD or just over the Pennsylvania border rather than in Bethesda or Chevy Chase, where station prices near the DC line run 20 to 40 cents higher per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Friendship Village?
For the best campgrounds near Friendship Village, plan ahead, because DC-area sites fill faster than most people realize. National Park Service campgrounds like Greenbelt Park and Shenandoah's Big Meadows open reservations six months in advance through Recreation.gov, and summer weekends often sell out the day they release. Maryland State Park sites (like Little Bennett or Cunningham Falls) book through the Maryland Park Service reservation system and open about a year ahead for peak season. Private parks like Cherry Hill Park can usually be booked 1 to 3 months out, except around July 4th and the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Pro tip: set a Recreation.gov alert for your dates and book at 10 AM Eastern on the release day to snag prime spots.
recreation.gov/What's it like driving an RV around Friendship Village and the DC metro?
Driving around Friendship Village itself is the trickiest part of any trip, since you're in one of the densest neighborhoods in the country right on Wisconsin Avenue. The smart move is to skip city driving entirely: have your host deliver the RV to a campground or staging area outside the Beltway, or pick up in a quieter spot like Rockville or Silver Spring. Avoid the Beltway (I-495) and I-270 during rush hour (6 to 10 AM and 3 to 7 PM weekdays). Watch for low clearances on the Clara Barton and Rock Creek parkways, both of which prohibit commercial and tall vehicles. Pro tip: you're only 25 minutes from open country once you head north on I-270, so the urban driving part is short and manageable.
roads.maryland.gov/Index.aspx?PageId=109What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Friendship Village?
Campgrounds near Friendship Village range from full-resort to rustic, so you can pick what fits your style. Cherry Hill Park in College Park offers full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp electric), Wi-Fi, a pool, dog park, propane refill, and on-site cafe. Washington DC/Capitol KOA has full hookups, cabins, and a pool. Greenbelt Park (National Park Service) has no hookups but includes flush toilets, drinking water, and a dump station. Little Bennett Regional Park provides electric and water but no sewer hookups, with a centralized dump station. Most local campgrounds also rent fire rings and sell firewood on-site. Pro tip: if you're staying somewhere without sewer hookups, dump your tanks at Cherry Hill Park or Greenbelt Park on your way out, and top off fresh water before heading west to Shenandoah.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/things2know.htmWhat's included inside the RVs available in Friendship Village?
RVs on RVezy near Friendship Village come fully equipped and ready for adventure. Expect a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, cookware, and dishes; a bathroom with toilet and shower in most Class B, C, and A motorhomes plus larger trailers; sleeping for 2 to 8 people depending on the rig; air conditioning and a furnace; a TV in many units; and seatbelts for everyone traveling while the RV is in motion. Generators are standard on most motorhomes, and many hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on. Most include linens, towels, and a starter kit of paper goods. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps 4 or Sleeps 6 to match your group, and check listing photos for the kitchen layout, summer trips through DC heat are way more comfortable in a rig with a residential-size fridge.
rvezy.com/What add-ons and options can I get with my Friendship Village RV rental?
Hosts in the Friendship Village area offer all kinds of helpful add-ons to customize your trip. Common ones include delivery and setup, generator hours, propane refills, camp chairs and tables, bikes, kayaks or stand-up paddleboards (perfect for the Potomac), portable Wi-Fi hotspots, kitchen kits, linens packages, and bed-made-on-arrival service. Mileage policies vary: some listings include 100 to 150 miles per night, others offer unlimited mileage, which is great for a longer campervan rental Friendship Village trip out to Shenandoah or the Outer Banks. Pickup and dropoff times are set by each host but are typically flexible. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus the linens package for a true plug-and-play first trip, you'll save hours of prep and arrive at your campsite ready to relax.
visitmaryland.org/article/maryland-rv-campingHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Friendship Village RV rental?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay the full booking total (rental rate, service fee, and any add-ons) through the platform at checkout, with no cash or off-platform payments to your host. A separate refundable security deposit is held on your credit card before your trip starts; the amount is shown on the listing and varies by RV. As long as you return the motorhome rental in Friendship Village in the same condition (clean, undamaged, with tanks handled per the listing), the deposit is released after the trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short video of the RV's interior, exterior, and odometer at both pickup and dropoff to keep your deposit refund smooth.
