Camping near Galesville, Maryland
Galesville is an unincorporated community on the western shore of the West River, an arm of the Chesapeake Bay, roughly 14 miles south of Annapolis. The town itself has no campground, but RV travelers have several options within a short drive that combine waterfront access, wooded state land, and easy reach to Washington, DC.
Bay Shore Campground is the closest option on the Chesapeake side, drawing families who want boating, fishing, and crabbing near the mouth of the West River. Inland and to the west, Cedarville State Forest - Family sits in a large stretch of pine and hardwood forest in Prince George's and Charles counties, while Greenbelt Park Campground offers a National Park Service base inside the Beltway.
For travelers who want full hookups and resort amenities on the way to the capital, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC and Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday both cater to RVs and sit within an hour's drive of Galesville, making them practical hubs for combining a Chesapeake trip with sightseeing in DC.
Things to do around Galesville
The West River waterfront is the local draw: kayaking, sailing, crabbing, and fishing off the public wharf. Annapolis sits a short drive north for the U.S. Naval Academy, City Dock, and historic downtown, and Sandy Point State Park on the Bay offers swimming beaches and boat ramps.
For land-based activity, the 3,510-acre Cedarville State Forest marks the headwaters of Zekiah Swamp and offers camping, pavilions, and 19 miles of hiking trails. Greenbelt Park Campground puts trail loops and picnic areas within a National Park unit just outside DC.
Washington, DC museums, monuments, and the National Zoo are all within roughly an hour's drive, and many RV families use Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC or Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday as a base for day trips into the city by Metro or car.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel around Galesville. Daytime highs are comfortable, humidity is lower than midsummer, and Chesapeake breezes keep evenings pleasant. Bugs are lighter in shoulder seasons, and state park sites are easier to book outside the summer rush.
Summer is peak season on the Bay: warm water, long daylight, and full crabbing and sailing calendars. It is also the busiest booking window, so sites at Cedarville State Forest - Family, Greenbelt Park Campground, and the KOA fill early. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day there is a two-night minimum stay at Cedarville, and holiday weekends require a three-night minimum. Expect heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms.
Late fall through winter narrows the choices. Cedarville State Forest's campground is open from April to October, so cold-weather trips typically shift to private parks like Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC or the Capitol KOA, which operate on longer seasons.

How to book campgrounds near Galesville
Maryland state park sites, including Cedarville State Forest - Family, are booked through the state's reservation system. Reservations can be made by calling 1-888-432-2267, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or online at parkreservations.maryland.gov, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Campers are limited to 14 cumulative nights in Maryland State Park campgrounds during any 21-day period, and must vacate for at least seven consecutive days before re-registering.
Greenbelt Park Campground is a National Park Service site and is reserved through recreation.gov on a six-month rolling window. For summer weekends, reserve as far ahead as the system allows.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Galesville range from primitive state forest loops to full-hookup resort pads. At Cedarville State Forest, each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and lantern post; inner-loop sites have electric while outer-loop sites are primitive, with a bathhouse and water spigots throughout.
Expect tight, tree-shaded roads at state and national park campgrounds, which favor smaller Class C rigs, travel trailers, and vans. Greenbelt Park Campground is primitive with no water or electric hookups and has a 30-foot RV limit in most loops, while Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC and Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday are set up for larger motorhomes with pull-throughs, sewer, and Wi-Fi.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall, so bring repellent and check pets after hikes. Cell service is generally reliable across Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties, though it can weaken inside the forest interior at Cedarville.

Many hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your campground, marina, or driveway, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. That means no towing stress on Route 255 or backing into a tight site at a state park. Filter for Delivery on RVezy to see which listings offer it and ask the host about the fee, which often scales with distance. parkreservations.maryland.gov/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Galesville?
Galesville is genuinely a three-season sweet spot. Late April through mid-June brings highs in the 70s, blooming dogwoods, and crab season kicking off—prime time. September and October are arguably even better: highs in the 70s, low humidity, fall color along the Chesapeake, and lighter campground crowds. July and August are warm and humid (highs near 88°F) but perfect for waterfront RV camping in Galesville where you can swim and crab off the docks. Winter is mild (highs 40-50°F) and many hosts rent year-round, making Galesville a great cool-weather escape compared to colder northern markets. Book 2-3 months ahead for fall weekends.
weather.gov/lwx/I am first time renting an RV. Will I actually be okay?
You will be more than okay, you will be confident. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup: how to start the generator, dump tanks, run the awning, work the propane stove, and level the rig. You can also message the host before booking with any question, no matter how basic. Galesville is a friendly launchpad for first-timers because the roads are flat, traffic is light, and campgrounds like Duncan's Family Campground are designed for new RVers. If anything feels off mid-trip, 24/7 roadside assistance is one call away. Choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Galesville for your first run; they drive a lot like a big van.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rving-safetyWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 2, a dead battery at a marina, or a lockout at Sandy Point State Park is a single phone call away from help. Your host is also a friendly first resource for quick questions like resetting a GFCI or relighting a water heater. If a bigger mechanical issue pops up, RVezy support steps in to coordinate next steps. Save the roadside number in your phone at pickup and snap photos of the RV during your walkthrough.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or up to Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and one of the joys of an RV road trip from Galesville. You can cruise into Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and beyond with no extra paperwork. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and protection plan, so message the host before booking if a cross-border run is part of your plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular multi-state routes from Galesville include the Skyline Drive loop through Virginia and the Outer Banks run down to North Carolina.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Galesville RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable on an RV trip, so plan ahead. Expect a Class C motorhome to get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, a Class A about 7 to 10 MPG, and a campervan rental in Galesville closer to 16 to 20 MPG. Maryland gas prices typically sit slightly above the national average. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel at current pump prices. Travel trailers reduce your tow vehicle's MPG by 2 to 4. Use GasBuddy to find the best local prices, and fuel up in Annapolis before heading out.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Galesville?
For summer weekends and any holiday, book your campground the moment you confirm the RV. Maryland State Parks like Sandy Point and Greenbelt Park release reservations through parkreservations.maryland.gov and ReserveAmerica up to 12 months ahead, and prime waterfront sites in June, July, and August fill within hours of opening. For shoulder-season trips (April, May, September, October), 4 to 8 weeks ahead is usually fine. Midweek in fall, you can often grab same-week spots. Pro tip: if your dream site is booked, set a cancellation alert on Campnab or check ReserveAmerica daily at 7 a.m. when cancellations post.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Galesville?
Driving an RV around Galesville is refreshingly easy. The village sits on flat coastal land with two-lane country roads like Galesville Road and Muddy Creek Road that are gentle, scenic, and rarely congested. The main approach is Route 2 (Solomons Island Road), which is wide and RV-friendly. Watch for the Bay Bridge (US-50/301) east of Annapolis, where high winds can trigger restrictions for high-profile vehicles, so check the Maryland Transportation Authority wind advisory before crossing. Avoid driving in or out of Washington, D.C. during weekday rush hour. Heading to D.C. or Baltimore? Consider RV delivery in Galesville so you skip city driving entirely.

Great news: most campgrounds near Galesville are well equipped. Private parks like Duncan's Family Campground and Cherry Hill Park offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and on-site dump stations. Maryland State Parks like Sandy Point and Greenbelt Park typically provide electric and water at sites plus centralized dump stations and bathhouses with hot showers. For fresh water fills on the go, most state park entrance stations have spigots. If you are boondocking on private land near the West River, plan to top off water before arrival. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 90-degree elbow; site spigots in Anne Arundel County can be awkwardly placed.

Mileage policies vary by listing: most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (a great pick for an RV road trip from Galesville), and overage rates are typically $0.30 to $0.45 per mile. Every add-on, mileage allowance, and fee is clearly listed before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Galesville%2C%20MarylandHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay the full booking total through RVezy with a credit or debit card; no cash changes hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is held (pre-authorized) on your card before the trip, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's size and value, and it is released after the trip if there is no damage and the RV is returned as it left. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, return with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your host requires it. Everything is transparent in your RVezy account.
