Camping near Garrett Park, Maryland
Garrett Park is a small residential town in Montgomery County, Maryland, roughly ten miles north of Washington, D.C. and inside the Capital Beltway. There are no campgrounds inside the town itself, so RV travelers base out of parks in the surrounding suburbs and use Garrett Park mainly as a reference point for the wider D.C. metro area.
The closest full-service RV option is Cherry Hill Park in College Park, a family-owned resort-style campground with easy transit to Washington, D.C. Greenbelt Park Campground, run by the National Park Service, sits about ten miles from Washington, D.C. and is known for its wooded surroundings and affordability. Further out, Ramblin' Pines and Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area sit toward Howard County, and Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday is in Millersville, closer to Annapolis.
Most visitors here combine RV camping with sightseeing in D.C., Baltimore, or Annapolis, so proximity to the Metro, MARC commuter rail, and the Beltway usually matters more than remote-nature appeal.
Things to do near Garrett Park
The main draw is Washington, D.C. From area campgrounds, families typically drive or take transit into the National Mall for the Smithsonian museums, the U.S. Capitol, and the monuments. Goddard Space Flight Center is about 3 miles from Greenbelt Park, and the Greenbelt Metro station sits about 1.5 miles from the park, putting downtown D.C. roughly an hour away by transit.
Outdoor options are close at hand too. Patapsco Valley State Park spans more than 16,000 acres along the Patapsco River, with over 70 miles of maintained trails for hiking and biking, plus paddling and fishing access. Greenbelt Park adds about nine miles of trails, including the 5.3-mile Perimeter Trail, and three picnic areas.
Cherry Hill Park adds resort-style extras on site, including pools, a splash park, mini golf, and a dog park, which helps on days when families want a break from sightseeing.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in the D.C. suburbs. Cherry blossom season in late March and early April pulls heavy crowds into the city, and area campgrounds fill quickly around that period and again on holiday weekends through the summer. Summer is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, but it is also when kid-friendly amenities and pools are in full swing.
Most private parks in the area, including Cherry Hill Park, operate year-round. Greenbelt Park Campground is open year-round and takes reservations through Recreation.gov. Patapsco Valley State Park stays open year-round for day use, but the Hollofield Area shelters generally run late March through early November, with a small number of year-round exceptions.
One important planning note: the Hollofield Area campground has been closed for renovations and is not accepting reservations. Confirm current status on the Maryland Park Service reservation portal before building a trip around it.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Both VANessa and Vanessa were awesome. All the amenities are thoughtfully available. Van drove well and my son and I had a trip we’ll talk about for years and remember forever. Vanessa is a great communicator and great person. 5+ stars.

Had an amazing travel experience with VANessa and Vanessa was a joy to work with. So very accommodating. The van is beautiful and has everything you could want. Even my pup Seamus gave it two paws up!

How to book campgrounds near Garrett Park
Reservation systems vary by campground type. Greenbelt Park Campground offers year-round reservations and can be booked up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov or the call center at 1-877-444-6777; payment is not accepted on site. Maryland state parks, including Patapsco Valley, use the Maryland Park Service reservation portal at parkreservations.maryland.gov, with reservations required at least one day ahead of arrival and available up to 365 days in advance.
Private parks handle their own bookings directly. Cherry Hill Park, Ramblin' Pines, and Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday all take reservations by phone or through their own websites. Book weekends and cherry-blossom-season dates as far out as possible, since the closest parks to D.C. fill early.
What to expect on the ground
Campgrounds in this area lean suburban rather than wilderness. Expect paved roads, tree cover, and freeway noise at parks close to the Beltway or I-95. Greenbelt Park Campground has no individual water or electric hookups, but the site includes flush toilets, drinking water, showers, and a dump station, with narrow one-way loops and length restrictions that favor smaller rigs.
Cherry Hill Park is at the other end of the spectrum: full-hookup RV sites, tent spaces, cabins, yurts, and glamping pods, plus pools, a hot tub, a splash park, a cafe, a dog park, and shuttle service to the Metro.
Bring bug spray in warm months. The National Park Service posts a tick notice for the Mid-Atlantic region in spring and summer, so tick repellent is recommended.
