Campground options near Germantown range from full-hookup RV resorts to smaller state park and riverfront sites. Cherry Hill Park, located in College Park about 17 miles from the National Mall, is a large private RV resort with full hookups, big-rig-friendly sites, and a wide range of amenities. Evergreen Point Village and Ramblin' Pines provide additional private-park options closer to the I-70 corridor northeast of the city.
For a more rustic experience, Gambrill State Park sits high on Catoctin Mountain about 6 miles northwest of Frederick and offers hiking, mountain biking, camping, and scenic overlooks. Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Both VANessa and Vanessa were awesome. All the amenities are thoughtfully available. Van drove well and my son and I had a trip we’ll talk about for years and remember forever. Vanessa is a great communicator and great person. 5+ stars.

How to book a campsite near Germantown
State park sites are booked through Maryland's central reservation system at parkreservations.maryland.gov or by calling 1-888-432-CAMP. Reservations are required throughout the Gambrill State Park camping season, and new reservable inventory becomes available at 9 a.m. on days when the call center is open. Summer weekends at Gambrill fill quickly, so booking several weeks ahead is advised.
Private campgrounds handle their own reservations. Cherry Hill Park, Evergreen Point Village, Ramblin' Pines, and Brunswick Family Campground each take bookings directly through their websites or by phone. Spring cherry blossom season and summer demand mean campers should reserve well ahead for parks near the D.C. corridor.
For RV renters, confirm site length, hookup type, and big-rig access at the time of booking, especially at state park loops where equipment length is limited.
What to expect
Sites near Germantown fall into two clear categories. Private resorts closer to the Beltway lean toward full-service RV camping with paved roads, pools, and extensive amenities. Cherry Hill Park anchors this category with a wide range of on-site recreation, from swimming and mini-golf to a playground, dog park, and shuttle service toward the capital.
State park and riverfront sites are simpler. Gambrill's Rock Run Campground provides basic non-electric sites, a smaller number of 30-amp electric sites, and mini cabins. Every campsite comes with a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post, and the campground features a bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets, plus a dump station with potable water for RVs. Equipment length limits at Gambrill range from 20 to 30 feet depending on the site.
Expect humid summers, leashed-pet rules, and afternoon traffic on I-270 heading in and out of the D.C. metro area.
