Campgrounds near Lanham, Maryland
Lanham sits inside the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County, putting RV renters within a short drive of Washington, D.C. landmarks while keeping tree-shaded campgrounds nearby. The closest option is Greenbelt Park Campground, an urban base just 10 miles (16 km) from Washington, D.C., managed by the National Park Service. Cherry Hill Park in College Park is another close base, marketed by the operator as the closest RV park and campground to Washington, D.C.
Farther out but still accessible, Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday sits in Millersville, within reach of the Metro to D.C., Baltimore's Inner Harbor, and downtown Annapolis. Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC provides another private-park alternative in the region.
For RV renters who prefer a state forest setting, Cedarville State Forest - Family is south of Lanham in Charles County. It has 27 sites and is open seasonally April through October. Together these options cover full-hookup resort camping, national park sites, and quieter state forest loops.
Things to do near Lanham
Sightseeing is the main draw. The National Mall, Smithsonian museums, U.S. Capitol, and White House are all reachable by Metro or shuttle from campgrounds inside the Beltway. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center sits just north of Lanham and offers a free visitor center. Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens are 8 miles (13 km) from Greenbelt Park, and Goddard Space Flight Center is only 3 miles (5 km) away.
On-site amenities vary widely. Cherry Hill Park offers full hookup RV sites, shaded tent spaces, glamping options, pools, a splash park, and a pet-friendly dog park. Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday runs seasonal activities including outdoor movies, mini-golf, and a jumping pillow.
Outside the city, Cedarville State Forest - Family offers hiking on roughly 19.5 miles of trails, a stocked fishing pond, and an archery range across a forested state property of over 3,500 acres.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV camping around Lanham. Cherry blossom season in late March and early April draws heavy visitation to D.C., and campgrounds within Metro reach fill early. Fall foliage typically peaks in late October and into early November, with cooler nights and lower humidity making campsite time more pleasant.
Summer is peak family season but hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. Ticks are a real concern in wooded parks: there is a tick notice in the Mid-Atlantic region during spring and summer, so campers should use tick repellent and check for ticks after hikes. Mosquitoes also pick up in late summer at forested state parks.
Winter narrows the options. Greenbelt Park Campground offers year-round reservations, and campers may book six months in advance. Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday also operates year-round, though full-hookup availability can be limited in winter. Cedarville State Forest - Family is open only April through October, so it is not an option for cold-weather stays.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.
Ronald V. - Oct 2026
We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

How to book campgrounds near Lanham
Greenbelt Park Campground uses the federal reservation system. Bookings open six months in advance, payment is not accepted on site, and campsites must be reserved in advance or upon arrival using the Recreation.gov website or call center at 1-877-444-6777. RV renters should note the site-specific vehicle length limits listed on each site page.
Cedarville State Forest - Family is booked through the Maryland Park Service. Reservations can be made by calling 1-888-432-2267, Monday through Friday, or online at parkreservations.maryland.gov, 24 hours a day. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day there is a two-night minimum stay, and holiday weekends require a three-night minimum.
Private parks like Cherry Hill Park, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC, and Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday take direct reservations through their own websites or by phone.
What to expect
Traffic and site layout shape the experience more than terrain here. Campgrounds close to I-95 and the Beltway are convenient but can be noisy, and reviewers note that levelling blocks are useful at some sites. RV renters should confirm site length before arrival, as some pads accommodate large rigs while others are tight.
Greenbelt Park Campground has specific rules to plan around. Alcohol is not permitted in the campground, and attaching hammocks or clotheslines to trees is prohibited. Site terrain varies within the loops, so tent setups and larger RVs benefit from reviewing individual site pages on Recreation.gov, which list maximum vehicle length for each site.
Cedarville State Forest - Family is quieter but more remote, with primitive outer-loop sites and electric hookups only on the inner loop. Cell service is generally reliable across the region, and most private parks offer WiFi, laundry, and camp stores.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Lanham, MD
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lanham, MD?
An RV rental in Lanham is one of the most affordable ways to explore the DC metro area. On RVezy, you can typically find travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes between $175 and $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs from $250 and up. Since Lanham sits just inside the Capital Beltway, you pay suburban Maryland prices instead of pricier downtown DC rates. To score a cheap RV rental in Lanham, book midweek, travel during shoulder months like late March or November, and filter for hosts offering weekly discounts. Many guests also save by choosing a travel trailer and renting a tow-capable SUV separately.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lanham%2C%20MarylandDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Lanham, MD?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need for the vast majority of RVs on RVezy in Lanham. Maryland does not require a special non-commercial license for typical motorhomes, and almost every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel listed in Lanham falls within standard license limits. Renters generally need to be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during checkout. International travelers can drive with their home country license plus an International Driving Permit. That's it, you are ready to hit the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside assistance is included with my Lanham RV rental?
You are covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Lanham on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat tire on the Capital Beltway or need help leveling at a campground in Greenbelt, support is one phone call away. The protection plan helps cover damage to the vehicle for real peace of mind. During checkout you choose from different protection tiers based on the coverage you want, and the choice is set by RVezy, not the host. Combine that with RVezy customer support before, during, and after your trip, and you can focus on enjoying the National Mall instead of worrying.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Lanham RV trip?
Life happens, and RVezy makes it low-risk to book. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you confirm, so if plans shift in the first day or two, you are protected. Beyond that grace window, refund eligibility depends on factors like how far out your trip start date is. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credit so you can rebook. The simplest path: book early to lock in your dates and the RV you want, knowing you have flexibility if life throws a curveball.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lanham?
Absolutely, plenty of RVezy hosts in Lanham welcome four-legged co-pilots. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see every pet-friendly RV rental in Lanham instantly. Once you're on the road, Maryland is a dog lover's dream: Greenbelt Park (a National Park Service site just 6 miles from Lanham) allows leashed dogs on all trails and at the campground, and Patuxent Research Refuge has dog-friendly trails in nearby Laurel. Closer to home, Bladensburg Waterfront Park along the Anacostia is great for a leashed stroll. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees (usually $25 to $75 per stay) and let them know your dog's size.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to me in Lanham?
Yes, RV delivery in Lanham is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig through Beltway traffic. Many local hosts will deliver the RV right to your driveway, a nearby campground like Cherry Hill Park in College Park, or Greenbelt Park, then set everything up and walk you through every system: water, propane, generator, slide-outs, and waste tanks. Just filter by Delivery when browsing listings. Delivery fees typically range from $2 to $5 per mile or a flat rate within 25 miles. It's the easiest way to enjoy a stress-free motorhome rental in Lanham without ever getting behind the wheel of the big vehicle.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htmHow far can I drive on my Lanham RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got options. Some Lanham hosts on RVezy offer RV rentals with unlimited mileage, while others include a generous daily allowance (typically 100 to 150 miles per day) with a small per-mile fee beyond that, usually $0.30 to $0.50. From Lanham, popular weekend distances are very doable: Assateague Island National Seashore is about 145 miles east, Shenandoah National Park's Skyline Drive is roughly 110 miles west, Harpers Ferry is about 70 miles, and Ocean City sits 150 miles away. Each listing clearly displays the mileage policy before you book. Pro tip: if you're planning a big loop through Virginia and West Virginia, filter for unlimited mileage upfront to keep your budget predictable.
nps.gov/asis/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Lanham, MD?
You're spoiled for choice with RV camping in Lanham within a short drive. Cherry Hill Park in College Park (about 7 miles north) is the closest full-hookup resort to Washington DC, with a pool, dog park, and shuttle to the Metro. Greenbelt Park, a National Park Service campground just 6 miles away, offers 172 wooded sites with no hookups but unbeatable proximity to the city. Capitol KOA in Millersville is roughly 25 miles north with full hookups and family amenities. Duncan's Family Campground in Lothian (35 miles south) is another full-hookup favorite. For a beachier vibe, Bay Country Campground in Crisfield makes a great Eastern Shore basecamp. Book Greenbelt and Cherry Hill at least 2 to 3 months ahead for summer weekends.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htmWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Lanham?
Lanham's sweet spot is April through early June and mid-September through late October. Spring brings the National Cherry Blossom Festival in DC (peak bloom usually late March to early April) and comfortable 60s to 70s F daytime temps. Fall delivers crisp air, fewer crowds, and the brilliant foliage along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, but it's still great for beach trips to Assateague or Ocean City. Winter rentals are available too, with daytime highs in the 40s F, just confirm with your host that the RV has a working furnace and winterized plumbing. Locals will tell you October is the absolute MVP month here.
weather.gov/lwx/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Lanham beginner-friendly?
You're going to do great. First time renting an RV is the most common scenario on RVezy, and Lanham hosts are pros at orientation. At pickup, your host walks you through every system step-by-step: starting the generator, hooking up shore power, dumping waste tanks, extending slide-outs, and operating the leveling jacks. Many also send a video walkthrough afterward for reference. To build confidence, choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first trip, drive to a familiar nearby destination like Greenbelt Park before tackling Skyline Drive, and avoid the Beltway during rush hour (3 to 7 PM weekdays). Better yet, request delivery and your host handles all the driving and setup for you.
nps.gov/gree/index.htmWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Help is always close by. Every Lanham RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, covering things like tire changes, lockouts, jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing. If a system inside the RV acts up (say the AC quits during a Maryland heat wave), your first call is usually your host, who knows the rig best and can troubleshoot quickly. RVezy customer support is also available to step in when needed. Lanham's location is ideal for this: you are in the dense DC metro with mechanics, RV repair shops, and Camping World in Hanover all within 30 to 45 minutes.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat are the best RV road trips from Lanham?
An RV road trip from Lanham unlocks some of the East Coast's greatest hits. Head west 110 miles to Shenandoah National Park for Skyline Drive's 75 overlooks and black bear sightings. Drive east 145 miles to Assateague Island National Seashore to camp beside wild ponies on the beach. Go north 90 miles to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for Civil War history with full-hookup campgrounds nearby. Point south 130 miles to Colonial Williamsburg and the Yorktown Battlefield, or do a 200-mile run to the Outer Banks. Cross-border tip: RVezy rentals are allowed throughout the US and into Canada with host approval, but travel into Mexico isn't permitted because insurance doesn't extend there. Always confirm long routes with your host before booking.
nps.gov/shen/index.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel is straightforward. Travel trailers and fifth wheels don't burn their own gas, you tow them, so expect your tow vehicle's MPG to drop by about 30 to 40 percent. Class B campervans get the best mileage at 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG. Maryland gas prices typically run around $3.30 to $3.70 per gallon, slightly above the national average due to state fuel taxes. For a weekend round-trip from Lanham to Shenandoah (about 220 miles total), budget roughly $75 to $100 in a Class C. Pro tip: fill up at Costco in Beltsville or Wawa stations along US-50 for the cheapest fuel in the area.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Lanham?
Booking early is the secret to a smooth Lanham RV trip. For Greenbelt Park (the closest National Park Service campground), reservations open 6 months in advance on Recreation.gov and summer weekends often fill within hours. Maryland State Parks like Patapsco Valley and Sandy Point also use the Reserve America system and can be booked up to 12 months ahead. Private parks like Cherry Hill Park and Capitol KOA take reservations a year out and book solid for July 4th and Memorial Day weekend by April. Local insider tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) are far easier to score, and shoulder-season weekends in late September often have same-week availability at full-hookup parks.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232466What are local driving conditions like around Lanham?
Lanham sits right on the Capital Beltway (I-495), which is the area's biggest driving consideration. Avoid the Beltway and I-95 between 6 to 10 AM and 3 to 7 PM on weekdays when traffic crawls. Roads in Lanham itself are RV-friendly, but downtown DC has strict height and weight limits, so never take an RV onto the National Mall or Rock Creek Parkway (it's a designated parkway with low bridges). Hurricane season runs June through November and can bring heavy rain to the Chesapeake region, while winter occasionally delivers ice storms that make driving tricky. Use the Maryland 511 traffic system to check conditions before you roll. Pro tip: route around DC via the I-495 outer loop rather than cutting through the city.
chart.maryland.gov/What amenities and hookups can I expect at campgrounds near Lanham?
You'll find a full range. Cherry Hill Park in College Park offers premium full hookups (50-amp electric, water, sewer) plus Wi-Fi, a pool, and a camp store, the closest such resort to DC. Capitol KOA in Millersville has full hookups, cabins, and a pool. Greenbelt Park is more rustic with no hookups, but it does have flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station on-site. For fresh water and dump stations on the road, Cherry Hill Park sells day-use dump access (around $20) even to non-guests, and many Maryland State Parks like Patuxent River State Park have free dump stations for registered campers. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground since many dispersed areas in the region lack potable water.
nps.gov/gree/planyourvisit/campground.htmWhat features come standard in a Lanham RV rental?
Modern RVs on RVezy come surprisingly well-equipped. Most Class C motorhomes and travel trailers in Lanham include a real bed (queen or king), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, roof AC, propane furnace, and a dinette that converts to extra sleeping space. Many also have a TV, Bluetooth speakers, outdoor awning, and a generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi and cellular boosters are common add-ons. For larger groups, look at rigs that sleep 6 to 8 with bunkhouse floor plans, and always check the listed seatbelt count since everyone driving on Maryland roads must be belted. Pro tip: read the listing's amenities checklist carefully and message hosts about anything specific you need, like a coffee maker or pack-n-play.
mva.maryland.gov/safety/Pages/MDSafetyBelts.aspxWhat add-ons and extras can I get with my Lanham RV rental?
Lots of options to customize your trip. Common add-ons from Lanham hosts on RVezy include linen and kitchen kits ($50 to $100), camp chairs and outdoor tables ($25 to $50), generators if not built in, bike racks, grills, and even pre-stocked pantry packages. Delivery and setup is the most popular extra, with hosts often offering tiered pricing based on distance from Lanham. Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's home or a mutually agreed location, and instant-booking listings let you confirm dates without waiting on host approval. Mileage policies vary, with some unlimited and others tiered, all clearly shown on the listing. Bundle linens and a kitchen kit on your first trip so you do not have to pack the kitchen sink from home.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lanham%2C%20MarylandHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book a campervan rental in Lanham (or any RV type) on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card. Your card is charged for the booking total, and a separate security deposit hold is placed before pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV. That hold is released after your trip ends, assuming no damages or extra fees (like exceeding mileage or returning with full waste tanks when a dump was required). To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup, take photos and video, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump tanks if your host requires it.
