Campgrounds near Ocean Pines
Ocean Pines sits on Maryland's Eastern Shore in Worcester County, minutes from Ocean City, Berlin, and the barrier-island beaches of Assateague. The area is a dense cluster of RV-friendly campgrounds served by two main routes: US-50 into Ocean City and MD-611 south to Assateague Island. Most sites are within a 15 to 25 minute drive of the Atlantic and Sinepuxent Bay.
Options range from full-hookup resort parks to a state-run oceanfront campground. Sun Outdoors Ocean City and Sun Outdoors Ocean City Gateway offer paved sites, pools, and easy access to the boardwalk. Sun Outdoors Frontier Town, on Sinepuxent Bay, pairs full hookups with an on-site water park and marina. Treasure Beach RV Park and Campground, just north near Fenwick Island, is one of the largest parks in the region.
For a more natural setting, Assateague State Park puts campers directly on the barrier island, with the area's wild horses often wandering through the loops.
Things to do near Ocean Pines
The Ocean City Boardwalk anchors most trips, with roughly two and a half miles of shops, arcades, amusement rides, and beachfront dining. Families combine boardwalk days with wildlife viewing at Assateague Island, where feral horses roam the beaches, dunes, and marshes. Rangers require visitors to stay at least 40 feet, a bus length, from the horses, so binoculars are useful.
Water time dominates the itinerary. The Atlantic offers swimming, surfcasting, and surfing, while Sinepuxent Bay is calmer for kayaking, crabbing, and paddleboarding. Sun Outdoors Frontier Town operates a marina with rentals and charter fishing on the bay.
Off the water, the historic town of Berlin has walkable shops and restaurants roughly 10 miles west of Assateague, and Ocean Pines itself has golf, tennis, and community pools.

The camping season runs primarily from late April through early November. Assateague State Park's reservable season typically spans from late April through the first week of November, and most campsites there are only reservable in that window. Private resorts like Sun Outdoors Frontier Town typically operate from around early April through late fall, with reduced amenities in the shoulder months.
Summer, from late June through Labor Day, is peak season. Sites at Assateague State Park fill quickly, and many private parks require multi-night minimums during holiday weekends. Booking well ahead is essential for any weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Spring and fall bring milder temperatures, fewer crowds, and better site availability. Fall is often the most comfortable stretch, though October tends to be the wettest month on the coast. Winter is quiet: state park loops close, water systems shut down when temperatures drop below freezing, and tropical storm risk is highest in late summer and early fall.

It was an amazing experience! The RV was new and very clean with paper products and some chairs and a table!
Cristina B. - Sep 2026
The RV was exactly what we needed and as pictured. We would 100% would rent again and would recommend. There were many things that we packed, thinking there would be nothing in the RV; but there were paper plates, paper towels, toilet paper, utensils: plastic reusable cups, bowls, pots, pans, a strainer, knives, and plates. There was also a boogie board, pillows, scented spray and multiple cleaning supplies, as well as hand soap. The RV was clean and set up properly when we arrived. There were also 2 outdoor reclining chairs and an outdoor table. The awning worked as it should, as well as the electric and generator. The stove was propane and had propane there already. The generator (additional cost) worked great and was easy to start, and refilled with gas. The electric was mostly solar power. The toilet worked well. We didnt utilize the shower, so we dont know about that, but they did fill our water tank for us prior to arrival. Overall, would absolutely recommend if you're looking for a great company to rent an RV from!

How to book near Ocean Pines
Assateague State Park uses the Maryland State Park reservation system at parkreservations.maryland.gov, operated through ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made up to 365 days in advance, and popular summer weekends often sell out within minutes of the window opening. Reserving early, or watching for cancellations, is the practical strategy for peak dates.
The National Park Service campground on Assateague Island National Seashore books separately through Recreation.gov, and an entrance pass or per-vehicle fee is required in addition to camping fees. Private parks including Sun Outdoors Ocean City, Sun Outdoors Ocean City Gateway, Sun Outdoors Frontier Town, and Treasure Beach RV Park and Campground take reservations directly through their own websites. Renters using third-party RV delivery should confirm Maryland state park vendor check-in policies before arrival.
What to expect at Ocean Pines campgrounds
Sites vary widely in character. The private resorts near Ocean Pines lean toward full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, paved or gravel pads, cable, and Wi-Fi, plus pools, playgrounds, and organized activities. Sun Outdoors Frontier Town accommodates larger rigs with slide-outs. These parks are social, family-focused, and often booked to capacity in summer.
Assateague State Park is a different experience. Sites are sandy, mostly without full hookups, with electric available only in select loops. Trees are limited so shade is minimal, and long tent stakes plus sun protection help. Wild horses walk through the campground, so food and trash must be secured. Cell service is workable but not always strong on the island.

RV rental in Ocean Pines is often more affordable than beach hotels, especially when you split the cost with family or friends. On RVezy, motorhomes near Ocean Pines, MD typically average around $200 a night and towable trailers run closer to $125, with many hosts offering weekly or monthly discounts. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ocean%20Pines%2C%20MarylandDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Ocean Pines, MD?
Good news: for the vast majority of RVs you can rent on RVezy, a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ocean Pines. Maryland only requires a non-commercial Class B license for RVs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and almost every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on the platform falls well under that. You'll also need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID quickly through the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license is the easy add-on to bring along.
mva.maryland.gov/drivers/Pages/recreational-vehicle-info.aspxIs RV rental insurance and roadside help included on my Ocean Pines trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Ocean Pines booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can cross the Verrazano Bridge to Assateague with confidence. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip and gives you real peace of mind. You choose your level of coverage during checkout (not the host), so you can pick the plan that fits your trip. From a flat tire on Route 50 to a battery jump at Frontier Town, help is one phone call away, day or night.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Ocean Pines RV booking?
Booking an RV in Ocean Pines is low-risk because RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in a summer date before Assateague State Park sells out. Refunds depend on how far in advance you cancel, and RVezy support can help if something unexpected (like a coastal storm warning along the Delmarva Peninsula) disrupts your trip. If plans shift, just reach out to RVezy support and they will walk you through your options. Pro tip: book early but with flexibility in mind, since Ocean City weekends in July and August fill up fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Ocean Pines?
Absolutely, and Ocean Pines is one of the most dog-friendly stretches of the Mid-Atlantic coast. Just filter for 'Pet-Friendly' on RVezy to find a pet-friendly RV rental in Ocean Pines that welcomes your pup. Assateague State Park allows pets in camp loops G, H, and I plus the adjoining beaches, and Sun Outdoors Ocean City even has a dedicated 'Bark Beach' on Sinepuxent Bay. The Ocean City Boardwalk itself permits dogs from October through April. Pro tip: pack a tick check routine and fresh water bowls, since the marshy bayside trails are paradise for dogs but also home to ticks and biting flies in summer.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/eastern/assateague/camping.aspxCan the RV be delivered straight to my Ocean Pines campsite?
Yes, RV delivery in Ocean Pines is one of the most popular options, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip towing or driving a big rig over the Route 90 bridge. Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome rental in Ocean Pines directly at Assateague State Park, Sun Outdoors Frontier Town, Sun Outdoors Ocean City Gateway in Whaleyville, or even a private driveway in the Ocean Pines community. The host hooks up power, water, and sewer, then walks you through everything from the awning to the propane stove. Just use the 'Delivery' filter when searching, message the host for a delivery quote, and arrive ready to relax.
visitmaryland.org/listing/campgrounds/assateague-state-parkHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive from Ocean Pines?
Mileage policies are set by each host and shown right on the listing, with many Ocean Pines hosts offering generous daily allowances and some featuring an RV rental with unlimited mileage when the RV is delivered and stays parked. From Ocean Pines you're 10 miles to Assateague Island, 8 miles to the Ocean City Boardwalk, 35 miles to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware, 45 miles to Chincoteague Island in Virginia, and roughly 140 miles (about 3 hours) to Washington, D.C. Pro tip: if you're planning a coastal loop, message the host before booking to confirm the mileage cap fits your itinerary — they're usually happy to work something out.
nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/marylandcamping.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Ocean Pines, MD?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Ocean Pines. Assateague State Park (about 10 miles south) is the only oceanfront state park in Maryland and famous for its wild horses, with 350 sites that book up nearly a year in advance through Maryland Park Reservations. Sun Outdoors Frontier Town in Berlin sits on Sinepuxent Bay with a Western-themed waterpark, while Sun Outdoors Ocean City (formerly Castaways) offers full hookups minutes from the beach. Sun Outdoors Ocean City Gateway in Whaleyville is 15 miles inland with a free beach shuttle, and Assateague Island National Seashore offers more primitive oceanside sites. Pro tip: reserve oceanfront sites the moment the 12-month window opens.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/pages/eastern/assateague/camping.aspxWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Ocean Pines?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for an Ocean Pines RV trip, with July and August bringing the warmest beach days at average highs around 85°F and ocean temps near 76°F. The smart-money move is the shoulder seasons: May and June bring fewer crowds at Assateague, while September and October still offer swimmable water, fall striped bass fishing, and noticeably lower nightly rates. Winters are mild for the East Coast (highs in the mid-40s to low 50s) but most campgrounds along the Eastern Shore close from late October to mid-April. Pro tip: target the week after Labor Day for the perfect mix of warm weather and open campsites.
weather.gov/akq/I've never driven an RV before — will I be okay around Ocean Pines?
You'll be just fine, especially since first time renting an RV in Ocean Pines is one of the easier U.S. coastal experiences. The roads are flat, well-marked, and built for vacation traffic — Route 50, Route 113, and Route 611 all handle big rigs daily. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, holding tanks, and hookups, and you can message them mid-trip if you have questions. Choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan to build confidence, and consider delivery so the host handles parking. Pro tip: avoid driving the narrow Ocean City Boardwalk-adjacent streets in July — park inland and bike or shuttle in.
mva.maryland.gov/drivers/Pages/recreational-vehicle-info.aspxWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Ocean Pines comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included in your protection plan, covering breakdowns, flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and out-of-fuel situations whether you are parked at Assateague State Park or rolling down Route 113 toward Pocomoke. Your host is your first call for anything RV-specific (like figuring out the inverter or awning), and RVezy support is available before, during, and after the trip for everything else. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN, plate, and the host's number before leaving the driveway so you have everything handy if you ever need to call for help.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Ocean Pines?
Ocean Pines is a fantastic launchpad for an East Coast RV road trip. Popular routes for an RV road trip from Ocean Pines include the 45-mile run south to Chincoteague Island, VA to see another wild pony herd; a 35-mile hop north to Delaware Seashore State Park and Rehoboth Beach; a 140-mile drive to Washington, D.C. for the National Mall; and the 120-mile Cape May–Lewes Ferry route into the Jersey Shore. Travel to Mexico isn't allowed on RVezy rentals, and cross-border trips into Canada need explicit host approval, so message the host first. Pro tip: build in an Eastern Shore detour through historic Berlin, MD — voted one of America's coolest small towns.
nps.gov/asis/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on my Ocean Pines RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's very manageable on flat Eastern Shore terrain. Most Class C motorhomes near Ocean Pines get 8–10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans 16–20 MPG, and tow vehicles for travel trailers around 10–14 MPG when loaded. Maryland gas prices typically run a touch below the national average, and you'll find convenient fill-ups in Berlin, West Ocean City, and along Route 50. Pro tip: top off in Delaware on your way back from Rehoboth or Lewes — Delaware has no sales tax on gas station purchases, making it the cheapest fuel stop on the Delmarva Peninsula.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Ocean Pines?
For the best campgrounds near Ocean Pines, book as early as possible, especially Assateague State Park, which opens reservations 12 months in advance through the Maryland Park Reservations system and routinely sells out the same day for summer weekends. Assateague Island National Seashore campsites book through Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling window. Private resorts like Sun Outdoors Frontier Town and Sun Outdoors Ocean City accept reservations year-round but still fill up by spring for July and August. Pro tip: if your dream site is sold out, set a cancellation alert: last-minute openings happen often, especially mid-week.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/What are driving conditions like around Ocean Pines for an RV?
Driving an RV around Ocean Pines is about as easy as the East Coast gets. The terrain is dead flat, roads are wide, and the main arteries (Route 50, Route 113, Route 589, and Route 611) are designed for summer beach traffic with plenty of clearance. Avoid the narrow streets of downtown Ocean City between 60th Street and the Inlet during July and August weekends, when bumper-to-bumper traffic makes RV maneuvering tough. Watch for the Route 90 and Route 50 bridges, which can be windy. Pro tip: cross the Bay Bridge (Route 50) before 9 a.m. on Fridays or after 8 p.m. on Sundays to dodge the legendary Delmarva beach traffic.
roads.maryland.gov/What hookups and dump stations can I expect at Ocean Pines campgrounds?
Campground amenities near Ocean Pines range from full-service luxury to back-to-basics beach camping. Sun Outdoors Frontier Town, Sun Outdoors Ocean City, and Sun Outdoors Ocean City Gateway all offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer) plus on-site dump stations, pools, and camp stores. Assateague State Park has electric-only sites with a centralized dump station and bathhouses with hot showers. Assateague Island National Seashore is primitive — cold showers, chemical toilets, and no hookups, so you'll rely on the RV's freshwater tank and generator. Pro tip: fill freshwater and dump tanks before crossing the Verrazano Bridge to Assateague, since on-island services are limited.
nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/marylandcamping.htmWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Ocean Pines?
Most RVs in Ocean Pines come fully equipped for a beach vacation. Expect a queen or king bed, bunk options for kids, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Class C motorhomes and larger travel trailers typically include air conditioning (essential for August humidity), a TV, propane heat, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone on board. Many listings also include a generator, outdoor speakers, beach chairs, and an awning for shade. Wi-Fi varies, but Verizon and T-Mobile coverage along the Delmarva coast is solid. Pro tip: filter listings for 'Generator' if you're heading to Assateague National Seashore where there are no electric hookups.
fcc.gov/consumers/guides/cell-phone-coverage-areaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for on an Ocean Pines listing?
Ocean Pines hosts offer some genuinely fun add-ons that make beach trips easier: beach chairs and umbrellas, kayaks or paddleboards for Isle of Wight Bay, bike packages for the Assateague paved trails, propane tank refills, linen and kitchen kits, and pet packages. Many hosts list flat-rate delivery to Assateague State Park, the Sun Outdoors resorts, or directly to your Ocean Pines rental driveway. Pickup is typically at the host's home with a 60- to 90-minute walkthrough included. Pro tip: ask about a 'stocked kitchen' add-on — saving a Costco run to Salisbury (35 miles away) is worth every penny when you'd rather be on the boardwalk by sunset.
oceanpines.org/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy, so you never hand cash or a card to the host. You pay your trip total securely at booking with a major credit card, and the host receives funds after your trip begins. The security deposit is separate from the booking payment and is typically a temporary hold placed on your card before pickup, released after the RV is returned in good condition. To avoid any deposit issues on your Ocean Pines RV trip, do a quick walk-around video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in the agreement, and dump the tanks if your host requires it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAny local insider tip for an Ocean Pines RV trip?
Here's a local favorite most first-timers miss: skip the crowded Ocean City Boardwalk for an evening and head 8 miles west to historic downtown Berlin, MD, which Budget Travel once named 'America's Coolest Small Town.' You can park an RV easily on the edges of town, grab dinner at the Atlantic Hotel, and stroll the same streets used as the set for 'Runaway Bride' and 'Tuck Everlasting.' Then catch sunset back at the Verrazano Bridge over Sinepuxent Bay — the wild horses of Assateague are often grazing on the marsh edges in golden hour. It's the kind of moment that turns a beach trip into a memory worth re-booking next summer.
