Campgrounds near Pomfret, Maryland
Pomfret sits in Charles County in southern Maryland, roughly 30 miles south of Washington, D.C. and within easy reach of the Potomac River, Mattawoman Creek, and a mix of state parks, state forests, and private waterfront campgrounds. The area suits RV renters who want a quiet base for fishing, paddling, and history stops without a long drive from the capital region.
Smallwood was the home of General William Smallwood, a Revolutionary War officer who was the 4th Governor of Maryland, and his house, called Smallwood's Retreat, has been restored and is open to visitors. The park includes a marina, boat ramps, picnic areas, campsites, cabins, and nature trails along Mattawoman Creek. Cedarville State Forest is a state forest and protected area in the state of Maryland, near Brandywine, Cedarville, and Waldorf, and it offers trails, campsites (family, youth group, and equestrian), a fishing pond, hunting land, and picnic and recreation areas, with trails available for hikers, bikers and horse riders.
Private options round out the mix. Goose Bay Marina and Campground and Aqua Land Campground both sit directly on the Potomac, while Prince William Forest RV Campground lies across the river in Virginia and offers full hookups inside a National Park Service unit.
Things to do near Pomfret

On land, Cedarville State Forest has a multi-use trail network through pine and hardwood terrain, plus a stocked fishing pond. Oak Ridge Campground is a 100-site, wooded campground located in Prince William Forest Park, 35 miles southwest of Washington, DC, with direct access to the park's Piedmont woodland trail network.
