Campgrounds and RV parks near Potomac Heights, MD

Potomac Heights sits in Charles County, Maryland, on the Maryland side of the Potomac River roughly 30 miles south of Washington, D.C. RV travelers have a mix of Maryland state park, private waterfront, and National Park Service options within a short drive, spanning both banks of the river. The closest state-park option is Smallwood State Park, whose grounds include a marina, boat ramps, picnicking facilities, campsites, cabins, trails, and a nature center. Private waterfront camping is available at Goose Bay Marina and Campground and Aqua Land Campground, both set along the tidal Potomac in southern Charles County. Across the river in Virginia, Prince William Forest Park preserves approximately 15,000 acres including a major portion of the Quantico Creek watershed and is the National Park Service's third largest unit in Virginia, with camping at Oak Ridge Campground and hookups available at the concessioner-run Prince William Forest RV Campground. The area suits families looking for a base close to D.C. attractions, Potomac River paddling and fishing, and forested hikes without long drives between stops.

Booking systems differ by ownership. The concessioner-run Prince William Forest RV Campground is booked through the operator rather than Recreation.gov.
