Rockville camping overview
Rockville sits in Montgomery County just north of Washington, D.C., making it a practical base for RV travelers combining suburban Maryland with trips into the capital. Campgrounds in the area range from full-hookup resort parks to primitive National Park Service sites and state park loops, with most options concentrated along the I-270, I-495, and I-95 corridors within an hour of the city.
The closest full-service RV park is Cherry Hill Park in College Park, which offers RV and tent sites, log cabins, cottages, yurts, and glamping pods, plus amenities including mini golf, fishing, a hot tub and sauna, and an on-site cafe. For a quieter forested setting still close to D.C., Greenbelt Park Campground offers 172 sites with showers and restrooms in a wooded park about 10 miles from Washington, D.C.
West and north of Rockville, Ramblin' Pines in Woodbine provides 200 sites, including 190 with full hookups and 12 pull-throughs, with cable TV included. Evergreen Point Village near Frederick is a year-round RV facility along the I-70 and US-15 corridor. Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area sits farther east near Ellicott City.
Things to do near Rockville
Washington, D.C. is the anchor attraction. From Greenbelt, campers can reach downtown by rail: the Washington Metro Greenbelt Station is about 1.5 miles from the park. Cherry Hill Park runs its own bus depot with connections to city bus lines, taxis, and tour buses into the capital.
Outdoor recreation is easy to reach. Greenbelt Park has trails including the Perimeter, Azalea, Dogwood, and Blueberry Trails winding through the wooded park. Patapsco Valley State Park offers roughly 70 miles of hiking, biking, and multi-use trails across its areas, and the Patapsco River adds water-based recreation.
Family-oriented parks add on-site activities. Ramblin' Pines features a swimming pool open from May to September, a stocked catch-and-release fishing pond, a game room, mini-golf, and a jumping pillow for kids.

The camping season around Rockville runs year-round at several private parks and at Greenbelt, but comfort and site availability vary sharply by season. Greenbelt Park Campground is open year-round, and Cherry Hill Park and Ramblin' Pines also operate through winter, though seasonal amenities like pools shut down outside the warm months.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Spring brings cherry blossoms in D.C. and mountain laurel bloom at Greenbelt in May, while fall delivers foliage color across the Patapsco Valley and Piedmont. Summer is peak family season, with high humidity and afternoon thunderstorms common; on-site pools and organized programs run in full swing. At Ramblin' Pines, weekends from May through October feature organized activities including games, hayrides, and live entertainment.
Bookings tighten around D.C. events, cherry blossom peak bloom in late March or early April, and summer holiday weekends. Reserve early for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day at family-focused parks. The Hollofield Area campground at Patapsco Valley State Park has been closed for renovations, so confirm status with the Maryland Park Service before planning that stop.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Both VANessa and Vanessa were awesome. All the amenities are thoughtfully available. Van drove well and my son and I had a trip we’ll talk about for years and remember forever. Vanessa is a great communicator and great person. 5+ stars.

Had an amazing travel experience with VANessa and Vanessa was a joy to work with. So very accommodating. The van is beautiful and has everything you could want. Even my pup Seamus gave it two paws up!

Booking campgrounds near Rockville
Reservation systems vary by operator. At Greenbelt Park, campers may book up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov or the call center at 1-877-444-6777, and payment is not accepted on site. The campground has no water or electric hookups, so plan tank capacity and generator use accordingly; a dump station and potable water are available.
Maryland state parks use their own portal. Hollofield sites at Patapsco Valley are handled through parkreservations.maryland.gov when open, with a booking window of up to 365 days in advance. The Hollofield Area campground is currently closed for renovations, so check status before booking.
Private parks including Cherry Hill Park, Ramblin' Pines, and Evergreen Point Village book directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends and cherry blossom season fill quickly, so reserve early and confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and any minimum-stay rules before arrival.
What to expect RV camping near Rockville
Expect a suburban camping experience with quick access to major highways. Traffic on I-495 and I-270 is heavy during weekday rush hours, so plan arrivals and departures outside those windows. Cellular coverage is generally strong across the region.
Rig-size limits matter at public parks. Greenbelt has an RV limit of 30 feet including tow vehicle in B Loop and limited availability for larger vehicles up to 35 feet in D Loop. At Hollofield, campers whose units are over 11 feet 1 inch in height must enter the park by the Route 40 East Entrance.
Bring firewood sourced at or near your destination to prevent the spread of tree-killing pests. Ticks are present in wooded parks during spring and summer, and alcohol is not permitted in the Greenbelt campground.
