Campgrounds near West Laurel
West Laurel sits in central Maryland between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., putting RV travelers within a short drive of both metro areas and the Patapsco River corridor. The area works well as a base for exploring the National Mall, the Chesapeake watershed, and the rolling piedmont forest that runs north toward Baltimore County.
Campground options range from full-service private resorts to more basic federal and state sites. Cherry Hill Park in College Park is a full-hookup RV park close to Washington, D.C., with pull-through sites, pools, and guided city tours. Greenbelt Park Campground, run by the National Park Service, offers a wooded, forested setting about ten miles from the capital. Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area sits along the Patapsco River near Ellicott City, and Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday and Ramblin' Pines round out the nearby private options.
Most sites are reachable within thirty to sixty minutes of West Laurel by I-95, the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, or Route 40.
Things to do near West Laurel
Day trips from a West Laurel base cover a wide range of interests. Washington, D.C. delivers the Smithsonian museums, the National Mall, and the Tidal Basin, while Baltimore adds the Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium, and Fort McHenry. Both cities are accessible by car or by Metro and MARC transit from nearby stations.
Outdoors, Patapsco Valley State Park runs along more than thirty miles of the Patapsco River, with hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and paddling across several use areas. Greenbelt Park adds about ten miles of quiet forest trails, including the Perimeter, Azalea, Dogwood, and Blueberry Trails. Families often mix a museum day in D.C. with a river or trail day in the state park, with a swim stop at a private-park pool on the way back.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in the West Laurel area. From April through early June, daytime highs sit in the mid-teens to low twenties Celsius, and mountain laurel blooms throughout Greenbelt Park in May. September and October bring cooler nights, lower humidity, and fall color across the piedmont forest of pine, oak, and maple.
Summer is peak season for the D.C. and Baltimore attractions, but heat and humidity are significant and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Sites at Cherry Hill Park and the Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday fill early for holiday weekends and school breaks, so booking well ahead is important.
Winter narrows the options. Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area operates on a seasonal calendar, roughly April through October, and has been closed for renovations in recent seasons. Greenbelt Park Campground and the nearby private parks generally remain open year-round. Cold snaps, occasional snow, and short daylight hours are the main considerations.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Both VANessa and Vanessa were awesome. All the amenities are thoughtfully available. Van drove well and my son and I had a trip we’ll talk about for years and remember forever. Vanessa is a great communicator and great person. 5+ stars.
