Campgrounds and RV parks near Albany, MN

Water activities dominate the summer schedule. Lakes around Albany and nearby Avon, Freeport, and Cold Spring are used for swimming, fishing for walleye and bass, kayaking, and pontoon rentals. Two Rivers Campground and Tubing offers river tubing floats, a low-effort option for families with kids. On land, the Lake Wobegon Regional Trail runs directly through Albany on a former rail corridor and connects to a broader paved network across central Minnesota, good for cycling and inline skating. Charles A Lindbergh State Park has hiking trails and sits adjacent to the Charles Lindbergh House and Museum, operated by the Minnesota Historical Society. Munsinger and Clemens Gardens in St. Cloud make an easy half-day trip from any base camp.

The practical RV season in central Minnesota runs from roughly early May through mid-October. Most private campgrounds open around the Minnesota fishing opener in early May and close in mid-October once overnight temperatures drop consistently below freezing. Minnesota state park campgrounds, including Charles A Lindbergh State Park, generally operate their full campgrounds from late spring through late fall, with limited or no water service outside that window. July and August are peak season. Weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day book out earliest, and lakeside sites are the first to go. June brings some of the highest average rainfall and active mosquitoes near wetlands and lakes. September is often the best value window: warm days, cooler nights, fewer bugs, and open availability midweek. Fall color in the hardwoods typically peaks late September through mid-October. Winter camping is not offered at most area campgrounds, though a limited number of state park sites remain reservable year-round for tent and self-contained rigs.

Private parks near Albany typically offer a mix of full-hookup, water-and-electric, and tent sites, with dump stations, showers, laundry, and camp stores. Family-oriented parks in the area lean into pools, mini-golf, playgrounds, and weekend activities during peak season, so expect a lively atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights in July and August. State park sites at Charles A Lindbergh State Park are more rustic. The campground has 38 sites, with electric hookups at sites 1 through 15 and no sewer or water at individual sites. Larger Class A rigs should confirm site dimensions at booking, as the campground was developed before modern big-rig sizes. Cell coverage is generally reliable near I-94 and thinner in wooded state park settings. Firewood must be sourced locally to comply with Minnesota's emerald ash borer rules.
