Campgrounds and RV parks near Avon, MN

El Rancho Manana Campground anchors much of the local recreation, with guided trail rides on scenic trails, roughly 1,208 acres of rolling hills with about 25 miles of hiking and biking trails and a sandy swimming beach on Long Lake, and rentals for canoes and water bikes. The property also hosts the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association festivals twice yearly. Two Rivers Campground and Tubing offers tubing along the Platte River in Royalton, a common half-day outing for families. Charles A Lindbergh State Park adds hiking trails, the Lindbergh historic home and museum, and river access for paddling. St. Cloud, a short drive east, provides groceries, RV service, restaurants, and the Munsinger and Clemens Gardens along the Mississippi.

Most private campgrounds in the Avon area operate on a warm-season schedule. El Rancho Manana, for example, is open from May 1 to Oct 31, and Two Rivers typically operates May through September or early October. Peak demand runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when El Rancho Manana runs planned themed weekends and activities. Holiday weekends and festival dates fill months in advance, so early booking is essential for July and August stays. Spring brings cool nights, muddy trails, and unpredictable rain, but also fewer crowds and better site selection. Fall offers crisp days, strong color through late September and early October, and quieter weekends, though water systems at some parks are shut off after the first hard freeze. Winter effectively closes private campgrounds in this region. State-park facilities generally shift to limited services, and snow, ice, and sub-zero cold make RV camping impractical without four-season equipment.

El Rancho Manana features 120 grassy, shaded sites that welcome tents, RVs, and everything in between, set on rolling terrain rather than paved pads, which can complicate setup for larger motorhomes and long fifth-wheels. Big rigs should confirm site dimensions and access before booking. Options at Two Rivers range from basic sites to full hookup, big rig friendly RV sites offering 50-amp electric service, with a mix of tent and back-in options elsewhere. Expect mosquitoes and biting flies from late May into July, especially near lakes and river bottoms. Cell coverage is generally reliable on major carriers along the I-94 corridor but can weaken on wooded interior sites. Groceries, fuel, and propane are readily available in Avon, Albany, and St. Cloud.
