Camping near Brooklyn Center, Minnesota
Brooklyn Center sits in Hennepin County along the Mississippi River, about ten miles northwest of downtown Minneapolis. The city works well as a Twin Cities base for RV travelers, with quick access to Interstates 94 and 694 and a ring of private campgrounds within a short drive.
The closest full-service option is Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey in Maple Grove, roughly 17 miles northwest of Minneapolis off I-94 at the Dayton Parkway exit. Other nearby private parks include Ham Lake Resort to the northeast, Town and Country Campground and RV Park closer to St. Paul, Dakotah Meadows RV Park south of the metro near Prior Lake, and Country Camping RV Park north of the city.
Most campgrounds in this area are privately operated and offer full hookups, pull-through sites, and family amenities. State park campgrounds sit farther out, generally 30 to 60 minutes from Brooklyn Center, and are managed through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reservation system.
Things to do near Brooklyn Center
The main draw is easy access to Twin Cities attractions. From the Maple Grove KOA, US Bank Stadium and the Minneapolis Convention Center are about 15 miles away, the Minnesota State Fairgrounds sit roughly 20 miles east, the Mall of America is about 30 miles south, and Valleyfair amusement park is around 35 miles away.
Outdoor options include the Mississippi River regional trails, Theodore Wirth Regional Park, and the Three Rivers Park District lakes and bike paths. Families can combine urban days with beach time at nearby suburban lakes.
Anglers and paddlers can reach dozens of lakes within an hour, and day trips to state parks such as Afton, William O'Brien, and Fort Snelling are practical from any Brooklyn Center base camp.

December - February
27° / 12°F 24 mmBitter cold; most private RV parks closed for the season
The prime RV season runs from May through early October. Winters are very cold, summer is warm and humid, snowfall is common in winter, and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are frequent during spring, summer, and autumn. Most private campgrounds around the Twin Cities operate seasonally and close their water systems once hard freezes arrive.
Summer is peak demand. Nearly half of the Twin Cities' annual precipitation falls during the summer months, so afternoon thunderstorms are common. Reserve well ahead for weekends tied to the Minnesota State Fair, Fourth of July, and Vikings home games.
Spring and fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and better site availability. From October to April, Minneapolis can remain below freezing all day, and the city typically has 72 days a year when the temperature never rises above 32°F, so shoulder-season RVers should confirm that hookups and bathhouses are still open before booking late-October or early-spring stays.

How to book a campground
Private parks near Brooklyn Center accept direct online or phone reservations. Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey books through the KOA website, with check-in at 2:00 pm and check-out at 12:00 pm. Ham Lake Resort, Town and Country Campground and RV Park, Dakotah Meadows RV Park, and Country Camping RV Park each take reservations directly through their own sites or by phone.
For state park campgrounds within day-trip range, use the Minnesota DNR reservation system. Camping and lodging reservations at Minnesota state parks and recreation areas can be made up to 120 days in advance, and fee-free same-day reservations are also available. All vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must have a Minnesota state park vehicle permit, sold separately from the campsite fee.
What to expect on-site
Expect suburban-style RV parks with paved or gravel pads, full or partial hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi. The Maple Grove KOA offers pull-through, 50-amp water and electric sites along with back-in options and camping cabins. Sites near the interstate can be convenient but louder; sites toward the back of a park are usually quieter.
Mosquitoes are active from late spring through summer, so pack repellent and consider screen rooms. Because invasive species travel with firewood, the Minnesota DNR recommends buying firewood close to where it will be burned, buying certified firewood, or gathering wood on site where permitted.
Family amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and dog parks are common at the larger private campgrounds. Confirm rig-length limits and slide-out clearance when booking, especially for back-in sites.

exploreminnesota.com/things-to-do/outdoor-activities/campingDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota?
Good news: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Brooklyn Center. Minnesota's Class D covers any vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which includes virtually every motorhome, campervan, travel trailer, and fifth wheel listed on RVezy. No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or RV endorsement is required for personal-use trips. RVezy approved drivers are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and you'll upload a clear photo of your license during checkout so the platform can verify your ID. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country before you fly into Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), which is just 20 minutes south of Brooklyn Center.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Brooklyn Center?
Every RV rental in Brooklyn Center, MN comes with a built-in renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 100 or I-94 with real peace of mind. RVezy renter protection plans cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your level of coverage during checkout, not the host, so you can match the plan to your comfort level and budget. This is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides substantial financial protection if something unexpected happens on your Minnesota RV trip. Roadside assistance is included with every protection plan, so a flat tire on the way to Itasca State Park becomes a quick phone call instead of a ruined vacation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Brooklyn Center RV trip plans change?
You can book with confidence: RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every rental in Brooklyn Center, so it is consistent and predictable no matter which host you choose. There is a grace-period window shortly after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, with additional refund tiers based on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. Cancellation policy details are managed by RVezy rather than displayed on individual listings, so the experience stays the same across hosts. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so your trip plans stay protected. If your plans wobble, contact RVezy support and they will walk you through your options before you cancel anything.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Brooklyn Center RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Brooklyn Center is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see dozens of motorhomes and travel trailers where your dog is welcome to ride along. Many hosts charge a small pet fee (usually $25 to $75 per trip) to cover extra cleaning, but plenty of Brooklyn Center owners are seasoned dog parents themselves. Once you're on the road, head straight to Centennial Park along the Mississippi River for off-leash trails, or drive 25 minutes north to Elm Creek Park Reserve, which has a 29-acre off-leash dog area with swim access. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm your specific breed and to ask about their favorite local pet-friendly campgrounds.
threeriversparks.org/parks/elm-creek-park-reserveCan the RV be delivered to my campground in the Brooklyn Center area?
Yes, RV delivery in Brooklyn Center is one of the most popular options on the platform, and it is a game-changer if you are nervous about driving a big rig through the Twin Cities. Use the Delivery filter to find hosts who will tow or drive the RV directly to your campsite at Bunker Hills Campground, Baker Park Reserve, Lebanon Hills Regional Park, or even your driveway. They handle the setup, level it, connect the hookups, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, with some offering free delivery within a set radius. It is an ideal setup for a first-time renter or a family RV trip in Brooklyn Center who just wants the camping, not the driving.
threeriversparks.org/parks/baker-park-reserveHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Brooklyn Center?
You've got serious range from Brooklyn Center, and many hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer adventures. Standard listings include 100 to 150 free miles per day, with extra miles typically priced at $0.35 to $0.50 each. From Brooklyn Center you can reach Duluth and Lake Superior's North Shore in about 2.5 hours (155 miles), Itasca State Park (the headwaters of the Mississippi) in 3.5 hours (210 miles), the Boundary Waters Canoe Area near Ely in 4.5 hours (245 miles), and Voyageurs National Park in around 5 hours (290 miles). For an RV road trip from Brooklyn Center, filter for unlimited-mileage listings or message hosts about a custom mileage package if you're planning a big loop.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/index.htmlWhere are the best campgrounds near Brooklyn Center, MN?
You're spoiled for choice with great campgrounds near Brooklyn Center. Bunker Hills Campground in Coon Rapids (about 15 minutes north) offers 50-amp full-hookup sites in a beautiful oak savanna setting. Town & Country Campground & RV Park in Savage has been family-run since 1968 with full hookups year-round. Minneapolis Northwest KOA in Maple Grove sits just 10 minutes from Brooklyn Center with pull-throughs and a pool. Baker Campground in Maple Plain has shaded gravel pads that fit big rigs under hardwood canopy. For a state-park feel, Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan offers 2,000 acres of trails and lakes. Pro tip: Three Rivers Park District sites like Baker and Elm Creek are wildly popular for RV camping in Brooklyn Center, so reserve as soon as your dates lock in.
threeriversparks.org/activities/campingWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Brooklyn Center?
Honestly, late May through early October is the sweet spot for a Brooklyn Center RV trip, with peak weather running mid-June through August (highs of 78 to 85°F, lows in the low 60s). September is the local insider favorite: warm days in the mid-70s, cool sleeping weather, dramatically fewer mosquitoes, and the start of brilliant fall colors along the North Shore by late September. July is peak season for the Boundary Waters and lake country, so book RV rental in Minnesota two to three months ahead. Spring (April to mid-May) can be chilly and wet, but hosts often offer 20 to 30 percent discounts. Winter rentals exist for ice fishing trips, just confirm the RV has heated tanks and the host's cold-weather setup before booking.
weather.gov/mpx/I've never rented an RV before. Is Brooklyn Center a good place to start?
Brooklyn Center is genuinely one of the easier places to start your first RV adventure. If it's your first time renting an RV, you'll get a full walk-through from your host at pickup covering the propane, water, generator, slide-outs, dump procedure, and how to back into a site. The terrain around Brooklyn Center is flat, the highways are well-maintained, and you're never more than 30 minutes from a Walmart, Fleet Farm, or RV supply store if you forget something. For an extra confidence boost, book a Class B campervan or a small Class C, which drive close to a large SUV. You can also message your host through the app any time during your trip, and RVezy support is available 24/7 if a question pops up.
dot.state.mn.us/education/driver/index.htmlWhat happens if I break down during my Brooklyn Center RV trip?
You're covered. Every motorhome rental in Brooklyn Center includes 24/7 roadside assistance through your RVezy protection plan, so a flat tire on I-94, a dead battery at Itasca, or a tow-needed moment on Highway 61 is just a phone call away. Roadside support handles tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also a great first call for anything mechanical or operational, since they know their RV inside and out. Save both numbers in your phone before you leave the driveway. Pro tip: cell service is excellent across the Twin Cities metro and along major highways, but can get spotty up in the Boundary Waters, so download offline maps before heading north.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Brooklyn Center RV rental into Canada or other states?
Cross-border trips are often possible from Brooklyn Center, which sits just 4 hours from the International Falls crossing into Ontario. Many Minnesota hosts are open to Canada travel for trips like Thunder Bay, Lake of the Woods, or Quetico Provincial Park, but you must get written approval from the host before booking and confirm insurance extends across the border. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance limitations. Interstate travel within the US is generally allowed, making epic loops like Brooklyn Center to Badlands National Park (8 hours, 525 miles) or to Mount Rushmore (9.5 hours, 605 miles) totally doable. Just message the host through your listing to confirm your route is on the table.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Minnesota RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on any RV rental in Minnesota, so it's smart to budget ahead. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 mpg, and Class A rigs typically run 7 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle's mpg will drop 25 to 40 percent while towing. Minnesota gas prices typically hover around the national average, and you'll find cheap fuel at Costco in Maple Grove (10 minutes from Brooklyn Center) and Sam's Club on Brooklyn Boulevard. For a typical 500-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan roughly $150 to $200 in gas. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fill up before heading into the Boundary Waters, where prices climb sharply.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Brooklyn Center?
For the best campgrounds near Brooklyn Center, book early, especially for summer weekends and holidays. Minnesota State Parks like Afton, William O'Brien, and Wild River open reservations 120 days in advance through the Minnesota DNR reservation system, and prime summer Saturdays often sell out within hours. Three Rivers Park District campgrounds (Baker, Elm Creek, Lake Auburn) take reservations 6 months out and fill quickly for July and August. Private parks like Town & Country and Minneapolis Northwest KOA typically book 2 to 3 months ahead for peak weekends. Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day are the toughest dates of the year. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are dramatically easier to score, and many parks discount weekday stays.
dnr.state.mn.us/reservations/index.htmlWhat are the local driving conditions like around Brooklyn Center?
Driving an RV around Brooklyn Center is genuinely manageable, with flat terrain, wide lanes, and well-marked highways. The city sits at the junction of Highway 100, I-694, and I-94, giving you easy access in every direction. Rush hour on I-94 and I-694 can get sticky between 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m., so plan pickups and big drives outside those windows. Winter brings snow, ice, and occasional sub-zero stretches from December to March, which is why most leisure rentals run May through October. Watch for low clearances under older railroad bridges in north Minneapolis (some as low as 11 feet), and use an RV-specific GPS. Pro tip: take the I-694 beltway around the city instead of cutting through downtown if you're heading to the North Shore.
dot.state.mn.us/trafficeng/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Brooklyn Center?
Campgrounds around Brooklyn Center are well-equipped, with the majority offering 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups. Three Rivers Park District campgrounds like Baker Park Reserve and Elm Creek offer electric sites, modern restrooms with showers, dump stations, potable water fill-ups, and lake swimming. Bunker Hills Campground in Coon Rapids has full hookups plus a beach and disc golf. Most Minnesota state parks have electric-only sites with central dump stations and water fills (no in-site sewer). For a free dump and water fill near Brooklyn Center, the Holiday Station at 3100 Shingle Creek Parkway has a dump station open 24/7. Pro tip: always carry a 25-foot freshwater hose and a sewer kit, since hookup positions vary site to site in Minnesota campgrounds.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/camping.htmlWhat's actually inside a typical Brooklyn Center RV rental?
You'll find a fully equipped home on wheels. Most motorhome rentals in Brooklyn Center sleep 4 to 8 people across queen beds, bunk beds, and convertible dinettes. Standard equipment includes a full kitchen (3-burner stove, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer), a bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, a furnace, and a fresh-water tank usually 30 to 60 gallons. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and an onboard generator for off-grid power. Wifi is rare onboard, but most renters tether to a phone hotspot (Verizon and T-Mobile have solid coverage in the Twin Cities). Seatbelts are required for every passenger riding while moving, so confirm the seatbelt count matches your group size on the listing before booking.
dot.state.mn.us/safety/seatbelts/What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Brooklyn Center offer a long list of helpful add-ons that can make your trip way easier. Common ones include bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camping chairs and outdoor rugs ($15 to $40), generators or extra propane fills, bike racks, kayak racks, and pet packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Brooklyn Center, with most renters spending 30 to 60 minutes on a walk-through. Standard mileage is 100 to 150 miles per day included, with overage at $0.35 to $0.50 per mile, and some hosts offer unlimited-mileage upgrades for longer trips. Pro tip: ask about late pickup or early drop-off — many hosts offer free flexibility if their calendar allows it.
exploreminnesota.com/How do payment and the security deposit work on an RVezy rental?
Payment is smooth and secure. When you book your RV rental in Brooklyn Center, MN, RVezy charges your card through the platform, never pay a host directly outside the app. You'll typically pay a portion at booking and the balance closer to your trip start. A refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released after the trip assuming there's no damage or extra cleaning required. The security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment. To avoid surprises, take time-stamped photos and a short video of the RV inside and out at pickup and drop-off. Pro tip: pay for the dump and refuel services if your host offers them, it's often cheaper than the penalty fees if you return the RV with full tanks.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV overnight in the Brooklyn Center area?
You've got solid options for where to park an RV in Brooklyn Center beyond traditional campgrounds. Most local Walmarts and Cabela's locations (including the Rogers Cabela's, 15 minutes northwest) allow free overnight RV parking with manager permission — always call ahead. Several Twin Cities-area casinos like Running Aces in Columbus and Mystic Lake in Prior Lake welcome overnight RV guests. Brooklyn Center city ordinances do not allow overnight RV parking on public streets, so plan to use a campground, host driveway, or designated lot. Minnesota rest areas along I-94 and I-35 permit a maximum 4-hour stay, so they work for naps but not overnight. Pro tip: Harvest Hosts memberships unlock free overnight stays at wineries and farms across rural Minnesota, perfect for a one-night stopover.
