Campgrounds near Cleveland, Minnesota
Cleveland sits in Le Sueur County in south-central Minnesota, roughly an hour south of the Twin Cities and within easy reach of Mankato, Waterville, and Faribault. The surrounding countryside is a rolling mix of hardwood forest, prairie, and shallow lakes formed by the Cannon and Minnesota River systems, and it supports a compact but varied set of campgrounds suited to RV travelers.
The closest state park option is Sakatah Lake State Park, an 842-acre state park on a natural widening of the Cannon River near the town of Waterville. A short drive west, Minneopa State Park sits on the south side of the Minnesota River, three miles west of Mankato, and is best known for a double waterfall and a drive-through bison range.
Private options round out the mix. Kamp Dels is a large family resort on Lake Sakatah near Waterville, Sakatah Trail Campground sits along the Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail in Madison Lake, offering full hookup sites for RVs with electric, water, and sewer connections, and Peaceful Valley Campsites offers a quieter rural alternative in the same corridor.
Things to do near Cleveland
Biking is the signature activity in this area. The Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail runs 39 miles from Mankato to Faribault, and hikers, bikers, skiers, and snowmobilers can enjoy the scenery of Minnesota's hardwoods on the paved trail. The surface is stroller and kid friendly, and Sakatah Trail Campground and Kamp Dels both sit near access points.
At Minneopa State Park, families can drive the bison loop and hike to the falls and the historic Seppmann Mill. The state reintroduced American bison to the park in a 330-acre fenced enclosure, through which visitors can drive in their vehicles, and the drive road closes on Wednesdays. Visitors must stay inside the vehicle at all times while visiting the bison range.
On the water, Sakatah Lake supports fishing, canoeing, and kayaking, and Kamp Dels rents watercraft for guests staying on site.

The developed camping season in this part of Minnesota is short. At Sakatah Lake State Park, drinking water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, trash collection, and the dump station are open from mid May through mid October, and vault toilets are available throughout the year. Kamp Dels operates on a similar window, running roughly late April through mid October.
Summer is peak season and books up fastest on weekends and holidays. Spring and early fall bring cooler nights, fewer bugs, and better fishing, and are often the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. One park staff member said it is best to go before June or after July due to the mosquitos, which is worth planning around if traveling with kids.
Winter camping is limited but possible. Sakatah Trail Campground in Madison Lake stays open for RVs, while state park campgrounds shift to reduced services once the water systems shut down.

How to book a site
Sakatah Lake State Park and Minneopa State Park are both reserved through the Minnesota DNR system. Online reservations can be made up to 120 days in advance, 24 hours a day, except for the first day a reservation becomes available. Campers need a reservation to stay in a state park or recreation area, reservations are in high demand for weekends, campsites with electric hookups and at the most popular parks, and sites can be reserved online at mndnr.gov/reservations or by phone at 866-857-2757. Mark the 120-day window on the calendar for summer weekends.
Overnight guests need a state park vehicle permit in addition to a camping or lodging reservation, and can buy one at the time a reservation is made, online, or upon arrival on site.
Private parks are booked directly. Kamp Dels takes reservations through its own site, while Sakatah Trail Campground handles bookings by phone and focuses on longer stays, with shorter stays subject to availability.
What to expect on site
State park sites in this area are wooded and modest in size. Sakatah Lake State Park has 62 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs up to 55 feet, with 14 sites offering electric hookups, 5 bike-in sites and 2 group sites. Loops are shaded but tight, and some pull-ins have a noticeable slope, so longer rigs should review site details before booking.
Minneopa's Red Fox Campground is smaller and more open. It has 68 single-family campsites for tents, trailers and RVs up to 60 feet in a wooded area, with 6 electric sites, 4 group sites and 1 cabin. Full hookups are not available at either state park.
For full-service RV needs, private parks fill the gap. Kamp Dels features roughly 200 campsites with hookup options including 20, 30, and 50-amp electrical service, water and sewer connections, plus modern showers, restrooms, laundry, Wi-Fi, and an on-site general store.
