Campgrounds near Eagle Bend, Minnesota
Eagle Bend is a small city in Todd County, in central Minnesota's lake country, roughly two hours northwest of the Twin Cities along U.S. Highway 71. The town itself is compact, with a grocery store, convenience stores, and a small business district, but the surrounding countryside is rich with lakes, rivers, and county parks that draw RV travelers throughout the warm months.
Most camping options sit within a short drive of the city rather than in town. Head Of The Lakes Resort is a family-owned resort in the wind-protected narrows of Lake Osakis, offering cabins, RV camping, tent camping, and seasonal sites with an on-site restaurant. Lazy Days Campground, in the Miltona area of Douglas County, provides full-hookup sites on a spring-fed lake. Camp S'more Campground near Long Prairie is a family-owned park with 18 full-hookup sites that are big-rig friendly, including 8 pull-through sites, and it has a dump station. Dower Lake Recreation Area outside Staples offers 20 sites with electrical hookups, 11 rustic tent sites, and 14 seasonal sites with full water, sewer, and electrical hookups.
Two Mile Trailer Park and Campground rounds out the closer-in options for travelers who want a simple base near Eagle Bend.
Things to do near Eagle Bend
Water dominates the local recreation menu. Lake Osakis supports walleye, northern pike, bass, crappie, and muskie fishing, with boat and pontoon rental available at Head Of The Lakes Resort, along with a restaurant, lounge, and bait and tackle. Dower Lake Recreation Area, about a half hour north near Staples, is home to Minnesota's longest fishing pier, measuring 612 feet, plus a sand swimming beach and public boat launch.
Land-based options round out a family trip. Dower Lake also has softball fields, a 9-hole disc golf course, a basketball court, a swimming beach, a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and a picnic shelter. Camp S'more sits near scenic float trips along the Long Prairie River State Water Trail, Lake Charlotte Beach with a fishing pier, and the Long Drive-In Theater, which shows films through the summer. The Lake Wobegon Regional Trail passes through the region for cycling and walking.

Central Minnesota has a short, busy camping season. Most private and city-run campgrounds run from roughly May through September or October, with peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day. July tends to be the warmest month, with temperatures averaging a daily high near 79°F and a low around 60°F. July is also the wettest month, receiving an average of about 106 mm of precipitation, so plan for afternoon thunderstorms and expect mosquitoes near lakes and wetlands.
Shoulder seasons trade crowds for cooler temperatures. September and early October bring fall color across the hardwood-dominated landscape and quieter campgrounds, though nighttime lows drop quickly. Many seasonal amenities such as beaches and boat rentals wind down after Labor Day.
Winter camping is limited but not impossible. Head Of The Lakes Resort offers icehouse rentals during the winter months and sits on the Todd County snowmobile trail, and it operates year-round with cabin stays. Most RV parks close and winterize their water systems by late October.
How to book a site
Reservation channels vary by property. Dower Lake Recreation Area takes online bookings through Campspot, and seasonal sites are handled by calling the park office at 218-894-2553. Head Of The Lakes Resort books cabins, RV sites, and ice houses directly through its own website and office. Camp S'more takes reservations by phone and through third-party platforms such as Hipcamp and RoverPass.
Summer weekends fill first, particularly around the Fourth of July, and seasonal sites at family-oriented parks are often held by returning campers year over year. Book several weeks ahead for holiday weekends, and call directly if the online calendar shows no availability. Confirm check-in and check-out times, hookup type, and rig length before arriving; many rural sites are narrow with limited maneuvering room.
What to expect on the ground
Campgrounds in the Eagle Bend area skew small and family-run rather than resort-scale. Expect grassy sites with shade trees, fire rings, and picnic tables, a mix of electric-only and full-hookup pads, and central shower and restroom buildings. At Dower Lake, water hookups are not available at individual sites, but a central water station lets campers fill tanks before parking, and the campground provides free firewood for registered campers and has a sewage dump station available at no additional charge.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near U.S. Highway 71 and the larger towns of Long Prairie, Staples, and Osakis but can weaken on back roads between lakes. Grocery, hardware, and fuel are available in Eagle Bend, Clarissa, and Long Prairie. Bring insect repellent: mosquitoes are typical near lakes in early summer, and evenings cool off quickly even in July, so pack layers.
