Campgrounds and RV parks near Eden Prairie, MN

The metro area combines urban attractions with lakes, trails, and regional parks. Close-in options include the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska, Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington, and Lake Minnetonka for boating and fishing. Fort Snelling State Park, near the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers, offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and historical sites. In Minneapolis proper, families often combine a campground stay with visits to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, Minnehaha Regional Park and its waterfall, and the Mall of America in nearby Bloomington. Three Rivers Park District manages numerous lakes, rivers, and streams with lake access points and trailer parking, and offers canoe, kayak, rowboat, paddleboat, and stand-up paddleboard rentals at several parks. On-site amenities vary by park. Some private options, including the KOAs, offer pools, mini-golf, and dog runs.

The camping season in the Twin Cities is short and clearly defined by the humid continental climate. Baker Campground and other Three Rivers sites operate a camping season running from the last Friday in April through the last Friday in October, and most regional and state park campgrounds in Minnesota follow a similar spring through mid-fall pattern. Private RV parks such as the KOAs and Dakotah Meadows generally run a longer season, though many close or limit services during the coldest months. Late May through Labor Day is peak season. Sites at popular reservation-based campgrounds fill quickly for weekends and holidays, and weekend reservations during the peak camping season, Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, require a two-night stay at Three Rivers Park District campgrounds. June brings the wettest weather of the year along with mosquitoes, while July and August are warm and reliably dry between thunderstorms. Early fall is a strong shoulder window. Days stay mild, biting insects drop off, and reservation pressure eases. Winters are severe with regular snowfall and subzero cold, so tent camping is uncommon and RV renters should confirm winter operation and utility availability directly with the campground.

Sites in the Eden Prairie area lean toward developed rather than backcountry. Expect paved or gravel pads, fire rings, picnic tables, potable water, and shower and restroom buildings at most private parks. Big rigs are generally well accommodated at Dakotah Meadows, which offers full hookup sites, shower houses, laundry, both pull-through and back-in sites, and can handle larger coaches. Regional park campgrounds are more rustic. Baker has 203 campsites, including 103 with electricity, and each site has a picnic table and fire ring, with wheelchair accessible showers and flush toilets nearby, and an RV dump station available for registered campsite visitors. Expect limited or no sewer hookups at individual public sites, and quiet hours enforced in the evening. Mosquitoes and ticks are common in summer, so pack repellent.
