Campgrounds and RV parks near Hancock, MN

Water recreation is the main draw. Signalness Lake at Glacial Lakes State Park allows swimming, fishing, and electric-motor boating, with canoe, kayak, rowboat, and paddleboard rentals available at the park office in season. Kettle Lake and Baby Lake are stocked with walleye and panfish, and the 56-acre Signalness Lake supports ice fishing for northern pike, perch, and bass in winter. The Pomme de Terre River and area lakes add shoreline fishing, paddling, and canoe access. On land, Glacial Lakes State Park offers about 16 miles of trails through native prairie and oak woodland, with overlooks toward Kettle Lake and the surrounding hills from the park's highest point at 1,352 feet. Pomme de Terre Park in Morris features a shaded disc golf course, a splash pad, and walking and biking paths. The town of Morris also offers groceries, fuel, restaurants, and the University of Minnesota-Morris campus.

West-central Minnesota has a strong four-season climate. Morris experiences a humid continental climate with very large seasonal contrasts: summers are warm, while winters are very cold and bring significant snowfall. Peak RV season runs from late May through mid-September, when lakes are open, campgrounds are fully staffed, and evenings are comfortable for outdoor cooking. Spring arrives slowly. March can still see snow, and shoulder-season campers should expect cool nights and muddy trails through April. May brings prairie wildflowers and the start of reliable camping weather. June and July are the wettest months, averaging about 3.15 inches of precipitation each, with occasional severe thunderstorms rolling across the prairie. Fall is short but scenic, with crisp days and thinning crowds through September and October. Winter draws a smaller crowd for skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing, with designated trails in the Oakridge area of Glacial Lakes State Park. Many private resorts close from late October through April, so travelers in the cold months should confirm hours before arrival.

Expect a mix of shaded and open sites on flat to gently rolling terrain. At Lower/Oakridge - Glacial Lakes State Park, campsites can accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to 45 feet, each with a table, fire ring, and grill; campground amenities include drinking water, flush and vault toilets, showers, and a dump station. Cell service in the area is generally usable but can weaken in the wooded lake basins. Pomme de Terre Campground offers gravel sites shaded by mature trees, with water and electricity at most spots and a splash pad and disc golf nearby. Private resorts on area lakes typically add docks, boat rentals, and beach access. Bugs are part of the deal. Mosquitoes peak in June and July, especially near lake edges at dusk. Firewood rules are strict: only firewood certified by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture or the USDA, or kiln-dried, unpainted, unstained wood free from foreign objects, is allowed, to help slow the spread of Emerald Ash Borer. Buy local or certified wood on the way in.
