Campgrounds and RV parks near Hoffman, MN

Fishing drives most trips here. Walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, and panfish are the standard catch across the surrounding lakes, and most campgrounds keep a boat ramp, fish-cleaning station, and rental docks on site. Elk Lake Campground and Ashby Resort Campground both cater to anglers with slip rentals and bait supplies. Swim beaches, pontoon rentals, and kayaking fill out the on-water day. Pomme de Terre Campground has a public beach and paddling access on the river system, and Big Foot Resort runs a sand beach for families. Off the water, the Central Lakes State Trail passes through nearby Fergus Falls, giving riders a paved rails-to-trails route. Glacial Lakes State Park, south of Hoffman near Starbuck, adds hiking, horseback trails, and prairie overlooks.

The RV season in this part of Minnesota is short and concentrated. Most private resorts and the public campground open around the Minnesota fishing opener in mid-May and close in mid-October, with full services running from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Water hookups and beach amenities are typically shut off once overnight lows begin dropping below freezing in October. Summer is peak. July and August bring warm days, warm lake water, and the busiest weekends, so lakeside sites at Elk Lake Campground, Ashby Resort Campground, and Big Foot Resort often book months ahead. Weekday arrivals are far easier to secure than Friday or Saturday nights. Spring and early fall are quieter and cooler, with better availability but cold mornings and variable weather. Winter camping is not offered at these properties, and roads into some resort loops are not plowed. Ice fishing continues on the lakes, but overnight stays shift to cabins or nearby lodging.

Expect gravel or grass pads, 30-amp service as the standard, and 50-amp available at a limited number of premium sites. Sewer hookups are common at the private resorts but not universal at public sites, so a dump station is often the norm at Pomme de Terre Campground. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the highway corridors and spottier on wooded lakeshores. Most lake resorts around Hoffman are family-focused, with playgrounds, game rooms, and weekend activities in summer. Quiet hours are enforced, and many properties limit generator use. Mosquitoes and ticks are present from late May through August, so screens and repellent matter. Firewood should be bought locally to comply with Minnesota's emerald ash borer rules, and pets are welcome at most campgrounds on leash with owner cleanup expected.
