Campgrounds near Holdingford, Minnesota
Holdingford sits in Stearns County, central Minnesota, about 20 miles northwest of St. Cloud and a short drive from the Mississippi River corridor. The town is nicknamed the Gateway to Lake Wobegon and hosts a trailhead on the Lake Wobegon Trail extension, a paved rail-to-trail route that passes through the community, making it a practical base for RV travelers who want a small-town setting close to state parks and rivers.
Campground options in the area span private RV resorts and a Minnesota state park. Two Rivers Campground and Tubing sits near the Mississippi and Platte River area near Royalton and offers full hookups plus a river tubing operation. El Rancho Manana Campground occupies more than 1,000 acres near Richmond, with a sandy swimming beach and horseback riding.
Charles A Lindbergh State Park, on the Mississippi at Little Falls, provides a wooded state park campground with 38 sites and electric hookups on some. Cozy Corners Campground and St Cloud Campground and RV Park round out the choices closer to St. Cloud for travelers who want quick access to city services and highway routes.
Things to do near Holdingford
The Lake Wobegon Trail is the local headline activity: a paved former rail corridor that runs through Holdingford and past the longest covered bridge in Minnesota, a 186-foot structure built in 2008. From the trailhead in town, riders can head south toward Albany to connect with the main trail or continue north on the Soo Line Trail toward the Mississippi River at Blanchard Dam.
The Mississippi River corridor is close at hand for paddling, fishing, and tubing. Two Rivers Campground and Tubing runs a float operation, and Charles A Lindbergh State Park offers canoe access to Pike Creek and the Mississippi, seven miles of trails, and the Charles Lindbergh House and Museum operated by the Minnesota Historical Society. El Rancho Manana adds lake swimming and horseback trail rides for families.

Most private campgrounds in the Holdingford area operate on a Minnesota camping season roughly from May through late September or early October. Two Rivers Campground and Tubing and El Rancho Manana Campground both follow that window, and the Lindbergh State Park campground is busiest during the same stretch, with water systems shut off and services scaled back once freezing weather begins in fall.
July and August are peak booking months. Weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day fill first, and lakeside or riverside sites at popular private parks often book out weeks in advance. Late spring and early summer bring mosquitoes and periodic wet weather, while late September delivers cooler nights, thinner crowds, and fall color along the Mississippi.
Winter camping in the area is limited to a handful of properties. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are possible at Lindbergh State Park, though RV travelers should confirm hookup availability before arrival since water is turned off after freezing weather sets in.
