Campgrounds and RV parks near Kasota, MN

Waterfalls and wildlife anchor Minneopa State Park. The upper falls drop about 10 feet and the lower falls drop close to 40 feet into a sandstone gorge, and the bison range covers roughly 330 acres with a drive-through loop where visitors stay in their vehicles. Historic stops include the 1862 Seppman stone windmill and Works Progress Administration structures listed on the National Register. Cycling and paddling drive most trips to Sakatah Lake State Park. The paved Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail runs 39 miles between Mankato and Faribault and doubles as a snowmobile route in winter. Sakatah Lake itself is a natural widening of the Cannon River, with a fishing pier, a boat launch, and access to the Cannon River water trail for canoes and kayaks. Kamp Dels adds a large waterpark, mini-golf, a petting zoo, and pontoon rentals for families who want on-site activity.

Peak RV season in this part of Minnesota runs late April through mid-October. Kamp Dels operates roughly April through October, and most private campgrounds in the area follow a similar schedule. Sakatah Lake and Minneopa state park campgrounds are open through the warm months, with dump station, showers, and drinking water typically available from mid-May through mid-October. Both parks stay accessible for day use and limited winter camping. Summer weekends fill fastest. June through August brings warm days, June is one of the wettest months, and mosquitoes peak in June and July. Park staff at Sakatah often suggest scheduling visits before June or after July to avoid the worst bug pressure. Spring and fall are quieter. May offers migrating birds, blooming prairie, and higher water on the falls at Minneopa. September and October bring hardwood color across the Big Woods hills, cooler nights, and easier reservations. Winter shifts most activity to cross-country skiing and snowmobiling on the Sakatah Singing Hills trail.

State park campgrounds in this area lean toward wooded, drive-in sites. Minneopa's Red Fox Campground has 61 sites split across two loops, with only 6 electric sites, plus a dump station, drinking water, flush toilets, and hot showers. Sakatah Lake State Park offers 62 semi-modern sites, 14 with electric hookups, a dump station, and a five-site bicycle touring camp tied to the state trail. Expect standard Minnesota campground conditions: hardwood shade, uneven mosquito pressure through midsummer, and no alcohol in state parks or recreation areas. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., campsites are limited to one camping group of six or fewer, and only registered campers are allowed in the park after 10 p.m. Private resorts like Kamp Dels provide full hookups, laundry, and a general store. Cell coverage in state parks can be uneven, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival.
