Campgrounds and RV parks near Morristown, MN

The Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail is the region's headline activity. It runs 39 paved miles between Faribault and Mankato on a former rail grade, passing directly through Sakatah Lake State Park and providing easy, level riding for families with kids on bikes or in-line skates. On the water, Upper and Lower Sakatah lakes support panfishing, canoeing, and kayaking, with rentals available at the state park office. Kamp Dels runs a 38,000 square foot waterpark, mini golf, a petting zoo, and pontoon rentals on Lake Sakatah, which makes it a common pick for RV renters traveling with children. Hiking is modest but pleasant: park trails loop through maple and oak stands that show strong fall color, and Nerstrand Big Woods State Park to the east adds more trail mileage and a waterfall.

The camping season is tightly bounded by Minnesota's climate. Modern restrooms, showers, and the dump station at Sakatah Lake State Park operate from mid-May through mid-October, and Kamp Dels typically runs from April into October. Outside that window, water systems are shut down and only vault toilets remain available at the state park. Late May through early September is peak season. Summer weekends, holiday weekends, and any dates that overlap Waterville's Bullhead Days festival book out well in advance. Mosquitoes are heaviest in June and early July, and the shallow Sakatah lakes can develop algae and a noticeable odor by mid to late summer. Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travelers who want quieter loops. Fishing and boating are strong in spring and early summer, and again in fall when hardwood color peaks in the surrounding Big Woods remnants. Snow cover is common from late November through March, and severe thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes are a real spring and summer risk in southern Minnesota.

Sakatah Lake State Park has 62 semi-modern sites arranged across wooded loops, with 14 offering electric hookups and the remainder non-electric. RVs up to 55 feet can be accommodated, though interior roads are wooded with tight turnarounds, so drivers of larger rigs should review site specifications before booking. A dump station is available on site; there are no sewer hookups at individual sites. Kamp Dels is a full-service private resort with 20, 30, and 50 amp electric, water and sewer at many sites, laundry, a general store, and Wi-Fi. It is significantly busier and more amenity-heavy than the state park, and best suited to families who want a resort feel. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the area. Families who want to swim usually rely on the pools at Kamp Dels or drive to nearby lake beaches. Firewood is sold on site, and out-of-area firewood is discouraged.
