Campgrounds near North Branch, Minnesota
North Branch sits in Chisago County in east-central Minnesota, roughly an hour north of the Twin Cities along Interstate 35. The area gives RV travelers quick access to the St. Croix River valley, mixed hardwood forests, and small-town amenities without a long drive from the metro. Most nearby campgrounds are either private RV parks with full hookups or a state park operated by the Minnesota DNR.
Private options close to town include Kozy Oaks Kamp, Wild Vines Campground, Country Camping RV Park, and Wildwood RV Park and Campground. These typically offer pull-through sites, electric, water, and sewer connections, and family amenities aimed at weekend and seasonal RV travelers.
For a state park experience, Wild River State Park runs along 18 miles of the St. Croix River just east of North Branch. The park provides opportunities for semi-modern camping, group camping, equestrian camping, backpack camping, and canoe camping, plus a guest house with a kitchen and fireplace for travelers who want indoor lodging on the same trip.
Things to do near North Branch
The St. Croix River is the main draw. The St. Croix is one of the eight original National Wild and Scenic Rivers, and paddling, fishing, and shoreline hiking are all within a short drive. Wild River State Park attracts people who enjoy camping, hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, interpretive programs, self-guided trails, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Inside the park, an all-season trail center serves as the focal point for a 35-mile trail system, and a visitor center with exhibits and environmental education programs is open year-round. Eagles, woodcock, ruffed grouse, bluebirds, beaver, and otter are just a few of the species that live in the park.
Off-park options include swimming pools and playgrounds at the private RV parks, outlet shopping in North Branch, and short drives to Taylors Falls and the Interstate State Park cliffs.

Peak RV season runs from late May through mid-October. Summer weekends and holidays book up first, especially at Wild River State Park. Travelers should book well in advance for weekend stays during peak season and for the popular cabins and guest house.
Spring arrives slowly. April nights routinely fall below freezing, and river access points can be muddy or closed until the ground firms up. Fall brings cool, clear days and strong color through late September and early October, with overnight lows dropping quickly by month's end. Many private campgrounds close their water systems and shutter for the season sometime in October.
Winter camping is possible but limited. All campsites in Minnesota state parks and recreation areas require a reservation before they may be occupied, year-round. Wild River State Park's trails stay open, so hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing continue through winter, though most private RV parks near North Branch are seasonal and closed until spring.

How to book campgrounds near North Branch
State park sites are booked through the Minnesota DNR reservation system, not Recreation.gov. Reservations can be made the same day as arrival, and up to 120 days before the arrival date. Online reservations can be made 24 hours a day, except for the first day a reservation becomes available. On that first day, reservations cannot be made before 8 a.m.
Campers can reserve sites online at mndnr.gov/reservations or by phone at 866-857-2757. Overnight guests need a state park vehicle permit in addition to a camping or lodging reservation. Minnesota's 120-day booking window is one of the shortest in the country, so mark the calendar 120 days before the desired arrival date and be ready at 8 a.m. Central to book popular holiday weekends.
Private campgrounds like Kozy Oaks Kamp, Wild Vines Campground, Country Camping RV Park, and Wildwood RV Park and Campground book directly through their own websites or by phone, often with longer booking windows than the state park.
What to expect on-site
Private RV parks in the North Branch area generally offer full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service, dump stations, potable water fills, restrooms, and Wi-Fi in common areas. Expect wooded or semi-wooded sites, gravel pads, and family amenities such as playgrounds, fire rings, and camp stores.
Wild River State Park is more rustic. The campground has 94 single-family sites, 34 with electric hookups, modern restrooms with showers and flush toilets, drinking water, and a seasonal dump station. Sewer and water hookups are not provided at the site, so plan to fill fresh water and dump before or after the stay.
Cell service in the river corridor can be spotty. The DNR strongly recommends making reservations before leaving home, because cell phone coverage and Wi-Fi are unpredictable at some parks. Bring firewood from an approved local source; moving firewood across county lines is restricted in Minnesota.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near North Branch, MN
How much does an RV rental in North Branch cost?
RV rental in North Branch is one of the most affordable ways to explore east-central Minnesota, with most rigs priced between $95 and $225 per night depending on size and season. Compact campervan rentals in North Branch tend to start in the low $100s, Class C motorhome rentals near North Branch usually land around $150 to $200, and larger fifth wheels can go higher when fully loaded with add-ons. Booking mid-week or in shoulder season (late April, May, or September) is the easiest way to score a cheap RV rental in North Branch. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and travel trailers if you're towing yourself, since those often deliver the best per-night value on the platform.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Branch%2C%20MinnesotaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in North Branch, MN?
Good news: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in North Branch for the vast majority of rigs on RVezy. Under Minnesota Statute 171.02, a standard Class D license covers any vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which includes nearly every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel you'll see listed locally. Recreational vehicles operated for personal use are also specifically exempt from Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements in Minnesota. You'll need to be 25 or older and verify your ID through the RVezy platform, and then you're set to hit Highway 95 toward the St. Croix.
dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/vehicle/license-plates/recreational-vehicle-and-rv-trailer-license-platesWhat protection is included with my North Branch RV rental?
Every RV rental in North Branch booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can roll toward Wild River State Park with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort zone at checkout (not the host). It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection for renters, especially helpful if you're a first-timer navigating gravel campground roads or tight tree-lined sites along the St. Croix. Pick your coverage tier at booking, snap photos at pickup, and you're ready to enjoy your Minnesota RV trip stress-free.

You're not locked in the moment you book. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every rental in North Branch (hosts don't), and it includes a full money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. After that grace window, your refund depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. If your host cancels, RVezy will help you rebook or issue a refund or travel credit. Review the current cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before booking, and reach out to RVezy support if plans shift, you'll find the whole process refreshingly low-risk.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in North Branch?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in North Branch, and Chisago County is a fantastic place to bring your dog. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see rigs that welcome four-legged copilots, and message the host if you want to confirm details like cleaning fees or breed preferences. Once you're set, head to Wild River State Park where leashed dogs are welcome on most hiking trails, or let them splash at the Sunrise River access. Banning State Park, about 45 minutes north on I-35, even has a fenced off-leash dog area that's perfect after a long drive. Don't forget a tie-out and a water bowl for camp.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/pets.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in North Branch?
Yes, RV delivery in North Branch is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig down Main Street. Many North Branch hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer directly at Wild River State Park or a private driveway in Chisago County. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through everything before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy, check the host's delivery radius and per-mile fee, and message them to confirm your campground accepts drop-off trailers (most do with advance notice).
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Branch%2C%20MinnesotaHow far can I travel from North Branch on an RV road trip?
You've got serious range from North Branch, and many hosts offer generous or even unlimited mileage packages. North Branch sits right on Interstate 35, putting you about 45 minutes from downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, 2 hours from Duluth and Lake Superior's North Shore, and roughly 3 hours from Voyageurs National Park gateway towns. A popular RV road trip from North Branch heads east across the St. Croix into Wisconsin's scenic Highway 35 along the river. Always check the listing's mileage policy and ask the host about overage rates if you're planning more than 100 miles per day, since that small detail can shape your budget on a longer Minnesota loop.
dot.state.mn.us/trafficeng/maps/Where should I stay in my RV near North Branch?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in North Branch. Wild River State Park, just 6 miles northeast, has 94 wooded campsites along the St. Croix River with 34 electric hookup spots and a seasonal dump station, accommodating rigs up to 60 feet. Kozy Oaks Kamp right in North Branch offers about 80 sites with full hookups and pull-through options for rigs up to 35 feet. Country Camping Tent and RV Park on the Rum River near Isanti adds 30/50 amp service plus tubing right from camp, and Wildwood RV Park in Shafer has 135 big-rig friendly sites. For something different, Interstate State Park 20 miles south delivers dramatic glacial potholes overlooking the river.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00254When is the best time of year to rent an RV in North Branch?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV trip in North Branch, with mid-June through August offering the warmest weather (typical highs of 75 to 82°F) and lowest chance of freezing nights. September is the local insider's pick: fall colors along the St. Croix River explode in late September, mosquitoes vanish, and campsites at Wild River State Park are easier to score. Winters here are genuinely cold (lows can dip to 6°F or below), so most private campgrounds close from October to April, though Wild River State Park stays open year-round for hardy snowshoers. If you want shoulder-season pricing with great weather, book early September.
weather.gov/mpx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be able to figure it out?
Definitely, and you're far from alone. Most first-time RV renters in North Branch have a smooth trip because every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup. They'll walk you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, leveling, dumping, and the dashboard before you leave the driveway, and you can message them anytime during your trip. If driving makes you nervous, ask about delivery directly to your campsite at Wild River State Park so you can skip driving altogether. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first trip, since they handle Highway 95's curves and small-town main streets with ease.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my North Branch trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking in North Branch includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on a county road or a dead battery at your campsite is just a phone call away from help. Your first move if something goes wrong: call roadside assistance, then message your host directly through the RVezy app so they know what's happening. For mechanical questions or anything trip-related, RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway, and you'll have backup all the way to Duluth and back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my North Branch RV rental across the border into Wisconsin or Canada?
Crossing the St. Croix into Wisconsin is easy and a favorite move for North Branch renters: Highway 8 leads right to Taylors Falls and the Wisconsin side of Interstate State Park, both perfect for an overnight scenic loop. Travel to Canada (the Ontario border is about 5 hours north via I-35 and Highway 53) may be allowed depending on the host and the protection coverage selected, so message the host directly before booking if a cross-border RV road trip from North Branch is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Bring your passport for any Canadian crossing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a North Branch RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans deliver 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend entirely on your tow vehicle. Minnesota gas prices typically run close to the national average, and you'll find convenient fill-ups at the I-35 stations right in North Branch before heading to Wild River State Park. For a round-trip from North Branch to Duluth (about 270 miles), budget roughly $90 to $120 in fuel for a mid-size motorhome. Pro tip: top off in North Branch, since prices can climb once you head into smaller towns up north.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near North Branch?
Reservations are required at every Minnesota state park, and they go fast. Wild River State Park, Interstate State Park, and Banning State Park accept bookings up to 120 days in advance through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reservation system, and the best weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill the same morning the window opens. For a North Branch RV trip, aim to book electric sites 3 to 4 months out for summer weekends and 2 to 3 weeks out for shoulder season. Private parks like Kozy Oaks Kamp and Wildwood RV Park typically have more flexibility. Pro tip: same-day reservations carry no extra fee, so check the DNR site for weekday last-minute openings.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/self_service.htmlWhat are driving conditions like around North Branch?
Driving an RV around North Branch is genuinely easygoing. Interstate 35 runs right through town with wide lanes and gentle grades, and Highway 95 toward Wild River State Park is a paved, RV-friendly two-lane with no weight or length restrictions for personal rigs. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk on rural county roads (this is white-tail country), and pay attention to spring thaw weight limits if you're traveling in March or April on smaller backroads. Winter brings real snow and ice from November through March, so most renters stick to May to October. If you're new to bigger rigs, stage your stops at the large I-35 truck stops in town for easy pull-throughs.
dot.state.mn.us/winter/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near North Branch?
Campgrounds near North Branch offer solid amenities for a comfortable Minnesota RV trip. Wild River State Park provides modern restrooms with showers and flush toilets, drinking water, a seasonal dump station, 34 electric hookup sites (20/30 amp), and vault toilets in winter. Private parks like Kozy Oaks Kamp and Wildwood RV Park in Shafer step it up with full hookups including 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer at most sites. Country Camping on the Rum River has full hookups plus a pool and shuttle service for tubing. Dump stations are available at all major parks; potable water fill is included with your site. Pro tip: bring a 30-to-50 amp adapter just in case.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/camping.htmlWhat's actually inside the RV I'll be renting in North Branch?
You'll be impressed by how dialed-in a typical motorhome rental in North Branch really is. Expect real beds (a queen plus bunks or a convertible dinette in most Class C rigs), a kitchen with a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus an enclosed bathroom with toilet and shower. Heating and air conditioning come standard, and most listings include outdoor chairs, a leveling kit, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone in your party. Many North Branch hosts also offer a generator, TV, and Wi-Fi hotspot. Check the listing's amenities tab and confirm bed configuration if you're traveling with kids. Pro tip: ask the host whether linens and kitchen basics are included or available as an add-on.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Branch%2C%20MinnesotaWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for a North Branch RV rental?
North Branch hosts offer a great mix of add-ons that make your trip easier. Popular extras include linen and kitchen kits, generators, bike racks, outdoor grills, propane refills, and tank dump service on return. Many hosts also offer delivery within a 25 to 50 mile radius (think Wild River State Park, Interstate State Park, or even a friend's lake cabin), with mileage policies typically ranging from 100 free miles per night to unlimited mileage on select listings. Pickup is usually at the host's home or driveway in or near North Branch, with an orientation walkthrough included. Use the RVezy filters and the listing's add-on menu, then message the host with anything you don't see.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Branch%2C%20MinnesotaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and fully handled through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to your host. You'll pay the rental total securely online when you book your RV rental in North Branch, and a refundable security deposit is held separately on your card to cover potential incidentals like minor damage, excess mileage, or returning with empty tanks. Once your host confirms the RV came back in good shape, that hold is released. To avoid any deposit issues, take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, return on time with fuel topped off, and follow the host's tank-dumping instructions during your orientation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in North Branch during winter for a cold-weather adventure?
Yes, winter RV rental in North Branch is absolutely possible and increasingly popular among Minnesotans who love snowshoeing, ice fishing, and chasing the aurora. Look for listings labeled as four-season or winterized, since those rigs have heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable furnaces built for Minnesota's deep cold (lows can hit -16°F in January). Wild River State Park stays open year-round with 35 miles of cross-country ski trails, vault toilets, and select electric sites suitable for plugged-in winter camping. Plan for shore power, an extra propane tank, and skirting the rig to retain heat. Message hosts directly to confirm winter use, and you'll unlock a side of Minnesota most travelers never see.
