Campgrounds near Richmond, Minnesota
Richmond sits in Stearns County in central Minnesota, about 25 minutes west of St. Cloud at the intersection of State Highway 23 and County Road 22. The town's identity centers on the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes, a linked system of 14 interconnected lakes along the Sauk River covering roughly 3,000 acres, with more than 70 miles of shoreline that draws anglers, boaters, and RV families through the warm months.
Cozy Corners Campground sits south of town with lake access on the chain, offering a family-focused base close to the water. El Rancho Manana Campground and Two Rivers Campground and Tubing round out the closest family-oriented options, while Spirit of Ripley RV Campground serves travelers looking for a quieter setting.
St Cloud Campground and RV Park lies a short drive east toward St. Cloud, useful for RV renters who want full hookups plus quick access to city services, groceries, and highway connections back to the Twin Cities.
Things to do near Richmond
The Horseshoe Chain is the main draw. Cedar Island and Horseshoe lakes hold walleye, bass, northern pike, muskie, and panfish, and the chain has a reputation as one of the stronger channel catfish waters in the state. Expect greener, weedier water than northern Minnesota lakes, and plan around a late-July and August lull when fishing typically slows before picking up again in fall.
The Glacial Lakes State Trail passes through Richmond and connects west toward Willmar, giving RV travelers a paved rail-trail for biking and walking. Two Rivers Campground and Tubing offers river tubing for hot afternoons, and El Rancho Manana Campground runs on-site trail riding and family activities suited to kids.

Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with July and early August drawing the heaviest weekend traffic. Lakeside sites at Cozy Corners Campground and other Horseshoe Chain properties fill early for the Fourth of July, and holiday weekends often carry two or three-night minimums.
Late spring and early fall are quieter and well suited to RV travel. May brings ice-out and opening walleye pressure, while September and October deliver cooler nights, changing color, and a strong fall fishing bite as fish feed heavily before winter. Many private resorts on the chain operate a May through October season and close their sites once freezing overnight temperatures return.
Winter camping is limited around Richmond. Most private campgrounds shut down water and seasonal services from November through April, though ice fishing on the Horseshoe Chain remains popular for day visitors.

How to book a campsite near Richmond
Private campgrounds near Richmond, including Cozy Corners Campground, El Rancho Manana Campground, Spirit of Ripley RV Campground, Two Rivers Campground and Tubing, and St Cloud Campground and RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and holiday periods should be locked in several months ahead, since seasonal site holders occupy a large share of the inventory.
Minnesota state parks in the wider region use a different system. All campsites are reservation-only through the ReserveMN platform run by the Minnesota DNR, and the booking window opens 120 days before the arrival date. On that first day, online reservations begin at 8:00 a.m. Central Time. Popular sites can sell out within minutes of opening, so mark the release date and be ready to book.
What RV renters should expect
Richmond is a small town of roughly 1,500 residents, so plan to stock up on groceries and supplies in St. Cloud before heading to a lakeside site. Cell coverage is generally reliable along Highway 23 and near town, but can dip on back roads around the chain.
Roads to the campgrounds are paved and passable for larger rigs, though interior campground lanes at lakeside properties can be tight and tree-lined. Confirm site length and hookup type when booking. Full hookups are more common at St Cloud Campground and RV Park, while some lakeside sites offer water and electric only.
Firewood should be purchased on site or locally to prevent the spread of invasive pests. Bringing outside firewood is restricted at many Minnesota campgrounds.
