Campgrounds near Rush City, Minnesota
Rush City sits in Chisago County along I-35 in east-central Minnesota, roughly an hour north of the Twin Cities and within easy reach of the St. Croix River valley. The area gives RV travelers a mix of full-hookup private parks, a large Minnesota state park with electric sites, and a casino-adjacent resort just up the interstate.
Wild River State Park anchors the region's public camping. It stretches along the St. Croix, a designated National Wild and Scenic River, with drive-in sites that accept larger rigs up to 60 feet. Nearby private options include Pokegama Lake RV Park And Golf, Kozy Oaks Kamp, and Wild Vines Campground, which pair standard RV amenities with lake or vineyard settings.
For travelers heading further up I-35, Grand Casino Hinckley RV Resort adds a full-service park next to the casino complex. Together, these campgrounds cover most trip styles, from quiet forested state-park loops to hookup-heavy resorts suited to families and long-haul RVs.
Things to do around Rush City
The St. Croix River drives most outdoor plans. Paddlers can put in at Sunrise Landing inside Wild River State Park and float downstream through hardwood forest, with 35 miles of park trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and, in winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Wildlife viewing is strong: deer, beaver, otter, and wild turkey all use the corridor.
Off-water options include fishing on the chain of lakes near Pokegama Lake RV Park And Golf and tasting rooms at the winery associated with Wild Vines Campground. Families heading north toward Grand Casino Hinckley RV Resort can pair camping with the Hinckley Fire Museum, indoor pools, and the paved Willard Munger State Trail for biking.

The RV season in east-central Minnesota runs mainly from May through mid-October. Spring brings variable weather, with freezing nights common into April and the last frost typically arriving in early to mid-May. Wild River State Park's drive-in sites and camper cabins open early, but the seasonal dump station, showers, and full water service follow warmer temperatures.
Summer is peak season. June is the wettest month, with frequent thunderstorms, while July and August bring warm, humid days that push weekend bookings to fill months out. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late May through August, so families should plan repellent and long sleeves for evening hikes.
Fall brings cool nights, fewer bugs, and hardwood color that usually peaks in late September to early October along the St. Croix. Winter closes most private RV parks, though Wild River State Park stays open year-round for cabins and cross-country skiing on its 35-mile groomed trail system, with vault toilets available in the off-season.
How to book
Sites at Wild River State Park are reserved through the Minnesota DNR reservation system, online 24 hours a day or by phone at 866-857-2757. Reservations open up to 120 days in advance, and a non-refundable reservation fee applies to each booking. A Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required in addition to the campsite fee, and can be purchased daily or annually.
Private parks near Rush City, including Pokegama Lake RV Park And Golf, Kozy Oaks Kamp, Wild Vines Campground, and Grand Casino Hinckley RV Resort, book directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends and holiday periods, secure sites well ahead: state-park loops and popular cabins sell out quickly, and cancellation fees kick in inside 14 days of arrival.
What to expect on arrival
Wild River State Park's main campground has 94 drive-up sites, 34 with electric hookups, spread across five loops in a wooded area near the river. Sites accept rigs up to 60 feet and include a parking spur, table, fire ring, and grill. Facilities include modern restrooms with seasonal showers, drinking water, dumpsters, and a seasonal dump station, with vault toilets available in winter.
Private parks in the area generally offer full hookups and family amenities such as pools or playgrounds. Firewood must be purchased locally or on-site to prevent the spread of invasive pests. Cell service is reliable along the I-35 corridor but weaker in the remote upper sections of Wild River State Park.

In winter, MnDOT plows I-35 aggressively, but back roads can be snow-packed from December through March. Summer thunderstorms can move through fast, so check radar before driving. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rush%20City%2C%20MinnesotaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card right on the booking page, so there's no cash handoff in a Rush City driveway. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and released back to your card a few days after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid issues, walk through the RV with the host at pickup, take photos of any existing scuffs, and return it with the agreed fuel and tank levels. Pro tip: empty gray and black tanks at a nearby dump station before returning the keys.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I RV in Rush City during the winter, and how do I prep for cold weather?
Yes, winter RVing in Rush City is a real adventure if you book a four-season rig. Look for listings that mention heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, dual-pane windows, and a propane furnace, and confirm the host winter-rents (use the message button on the listing). Plan for January lows around 0 degrees Fahrenheit and occasional dips to -20, so add a heated water hose, RV antifreeze for the gray tank, and shore power at full-hookup sites like Rush Lake Resort, which stays partially open. The Snake River and Soo Line snowmobile trails run right through Chisago County. Pro tip: park nose-into-the-wind and skirt the bottom with foam board to keep the floor warm overnight.
