Campgrounds and RV parks near Tonka Bay, MN

Tonka Bay is a small city on the south shore of Lake Minnetonka, about 20 miles west of downtown Minneapolis. The area sits on the western edge of the Twin Cities metropolitan area and works as a base for urban attractions, Three Rivers Park District trails, and day trips to state parks farther out. There are no RV campgrounds inside Tonka Bay itself, so visitors stay at parks in the surrounding suburbs and drive in. The closest options for a Tonka Bay trip are Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday in the southwest metro, Dakotah Meadows RV Park in Prior Lake, and Town and Country Campground and RV Park in Savage. Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey in Maple Grove serves travelers arriving on I-94. Riders traveling with horses use the Equestrian - Minnesota Valley State Park campground near Jordan. Most properties offer full or partial hookups, pull-through sites for larger rigs, and family amenities like pools, playgrounds, and dog runs. Sites near the casino corridor in Prior Lake tend to book earliest on summer weekends.

Private campgrounds around Tonka Bay, including Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday, Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey, Town and Country Campground and RV Park, and Dakotah Meadows RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. KOA properties can also be booked through the KOA app. Booking several weeks to a few months ahead is standard for summer weekends. The Equestrian - Minnesota Valley State Park campground is reserved through the Minnesota DNR reservation system, which accepts bookings up to 120 days in advance. State park stays require a Minnesota vehicle permit in addition to the site fee, and riders over 16 also need a Horse Pass to use DNR horse trails. Rig-length limits, hookup types, and pet policies vary by property, so confirm site dimensions when booking a rented RV.
