Campgrounds and RV parks near Braymer, MO

Wallace State Park is the main outdoor draw in the area. Visitors can fish in six-acre Lake Allaman, paddle or boat on the lake, and walk four scenic trails that loop through hardwood forest along Deer Creek. Shaded picnic sites are scattered throughout the park, and playground equipment near Campgrounds 2 and 4 gives kids a place to burn off energy between hikes. Beyond the park, the region is farm country. Kansas City is roughly an hour from Wallace State Park and offers museums, restaurants, and professional sports. Smaller towns like Cameron and Chillicothe provide grocery runs, hardware stores, and casual dining. Anglers can also work the many farm ponds and small reservoirs scattered across Caldwell and Clinton counties.

The prime camping window in this part of Missouri runs from mid-April through late October. At Wallace State Park, Campgrounds 1 and 2 stay open year round, while Campgrounds 3 and 4 operate April 15 through October 31, and reservations at those loops are only available during that same window. Weekend stays inside the park require a two-night minimum, either Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday. Spring brings green-up and wildflowers by May, along with the season's heaviest rain and the risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. Summer is warm, humid, and busy: daytime highs frequently push past 90°F, and holiday weekends fill quickly at both public and private parks. Fall delivers the most comfortable camping conditions, with cooler nights and color in the woods by mid to late October. Winter in northern Missouri can bring freezing temperatures and snow; campground water spigots at Wallace are shut off from November 1 through April 14, with potable water available at a frost-free spigot near the dump station.

At Wallace State Park, park gates lock at 9 p.m., so campers need to arrive before gate closure. The campgrounds offer basic and electric sites, modern restrooms, hot showers, and a trailer dump station. Campground 4 has a handful of 50-amp sites for larger rigs, and four walk-in sites are set aside for tent camping. Private parks near Braymer generally provide 30/50-amp hookups, water, and sewer or a dump station, with cell service that varies by carrier. Pets are welcome at most properties but must be leashed; at Wallace, leashes are limited to 10 feet and portable fences and electronic collars do not meet the requirement. Expect gravel or grass pads, mosquitoes in summer, and occasional severe weather warnings. Carry a NOAA weather radio and follow local firewood advisories to avoid moving pests between regions.
