Campgrounds near Stewartsville, Missouri
Stewartsville sits in DeKalb County in northwest Missouri, roughly 30 miles east of St. Joseph and about an hour northeast of Kansas City along US Route 36. The area is rolling farmland cut by small creeks and stocked lakes, and it works well as a quiet basecamp for travelers moving between I-29 and I-35.
RV options range from private full-hookup parks to a nearby state park. Pony Express RV Park and Campground is a veteran-owned park in Maysville, situated on 100 acres of rolling countryside with two 4-acre fishing ponds, large shade trees and winding hiking trails. Sharp RV Park, AOK Campground & RV Park, and Aok Campground- RV Park round out the closest private options for travelers who want hookups without a long drive.
For a public-land experience, Wallace State Park sits less than an hour from Kansas City and offers a 6-acre lake for fishing and four scenic trails with benches along the way. The mix of private parks and a state park gives RV travelers flexibility on amenities and how remote a site they want.
Things to do near Stewartsville
Fishing and light hiking anchor most trips. Pony Express RV Park and Campground has two 4-acre fishing ponds, winding hiking trails, a playground, a general store, a petting zoo, and boating on site, which keeps families busy without leaving the property.
Wallace State Park adds a public-land option a short drive east. Visitors can fish the park's 6-acre lake or hike one of four scenic trails with benches along the way, and shaded picnic sites are scattered throughout. Day trips reach further afield: St. Joseph offers the Pony Express National Museum and the Glore Psychiatric Museum, while Kansas City is close enough for a full day of barbecue, sports, and downtown attractions. Cameron and Maysville have small-town cafes and grocery stops for provisioning on the way in.

Spring brings green-up and wildflowers, with cool nights that are comfortable for sleeping. May is typically the wettest month, and thunderstorms are common from late spring through midsummer, so hookup sites with good drainage are worth booking. Summer peaks with highs frequently in the mid-80s and higher, paired with high humidity, and July is the warmest month on average.
