Campgrounds and RV parks near Warrensburg, MO

Knob Noster State Park is the main outdoor draw. Seven trails wind through the park for hiking and mountain biking, and the 4.9-mile McAdoo Trail System is also open to equestrians and backpackers. Two small lakes and Clearfork Creek allow fishing and non-motorized boating, and kayak rentals are offered at the visitor center. Families staying at private parks like The Great Escape RV and Camp Resort can use on-site amenities such as a saltwater pool, dog park, playground, and catch-and-release fishing ponds without leaving the campground. Whiteman Air Force Base sits across Route 23 from Knob Noster, and B-2 Stealth Bomber sightings overhead are a routine perk. Downtown Warrensburg adds restaurants, the University of Central Missouri campus, and easy highway access west to Kansas City for a day trip.

Warrensburg has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid, winters are cold with occasional snow, and spring and fall bring the most comfortable camping weather. Thunderstorms are common from spring through midsummer, and June is typically the wettest month. At Knob Noster State Park, water and showers run from April 15 through October 31, and sites 30 through 71 are only reservable during that on-season, closing from November through April 14. During the off-season, showers and water are turned off in the campground, though potable water is available at a frost-free spigot near the visitor center. Reservable sites may still be available on a walk-up basis if they are not booked. Peak demand hits Memorial Day through Labor Day when warm weather brings most visitors, and October is a particularly scenic time in the park's woodlands. Private RV parks along I-70, including The Great Escape and Owl Creek, generally operate year-round.

Expect a mix of wooded state-park camping and open, big-rig-friendly private RV parks. At Knob Noster State Park, electric sites offer only 30-amp service, and converter devices that would step up to 50 amp are not permitted. The park has two shower houses, flush and vault toilets, a dump station, and firewood sales during the on-season. Generators are prohibited unless approved by the park manager. Private parks near I-70 tend to have full hookups, 30 and 50-amp service, level pull-through sites, laundry, and Wi-Fi. The Great Escape RV and Camp Resort has 67 full-hookup sites along with a saltwater pool and fenced dog park. Pets are welcome at most sites but must be leashed. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the area, and firewood-transport advisories apply, so buy locally rather than carrying wood in.
