Campgrounds and RV parks near Allendale, NJ

Allendale sits in Bergen County in northeast New Jersey, roughly 25 miles from midtown Manhattan and within an hour's drive of several camping areas in the New Jersey Highlands and New York's Lower Hudson Valley. The borough itself is residential, so RV travelers base out of campgrounds in the surrounding forests and along the Hudson waterfront rather than in town. The closest developed campground is Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park, which adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area about 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge. To the west, Wawayanda State Park in the Highlands has more than 60 miles of marked trails plus a 19.6 mile section of the Appalachian Trail, and Camp Wyanokie sits on 150 acres of forest at the edge of Norvin Green State Forest around a five-acre lake. For urban access, Liberty Harbor RV Park is on the Jersey City waterfront with views of the Statue of Liberty and operates as a fenced section within a marina with water and electric hookups. Farther north across the state line, Black Bear Campground in Florida, New York adds a full-hookup option within an hour's drive of Allendale.

Reservation systems vary by campground. Online reservations for New Jersey state parks, including Wawayanda, are made at camping.nj.gov. For Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park, bookings can be secured online or by phone up to nine months in advance through the New York State Parks Reserve America portal; from mid-May to early October, same-day reservations are permitted only until 3 pm, and no walk-ins are allowed. Camp Wyanokie reservations are made through its Campspot system; there is no on-site staff, all reservations must be made before 5 pm on the date of check-in, and stays are capped at seven days. Black Bear RV Park accepts reservations by phone, and Liberty Harbor books online or by phone. Book Harriman and Wawayanda summer weekends months out; the Jersey City site also fills during major NYC events.
