Campgrounds near East Rutherford, New Jersey
East Rutherford sits in the Meadowlands of northern New Jersey, minutes from MetLife Stadium and roughly ten miles west of Midtown Manhattan. The area itself is dense and industrial, so RV travelers looking for a place to park usually choose between an urban hookup site on the Hudson waterfront and forested state park campgrounds an hour to the north or west.
The closest full-service option is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, which sits directly across the Hudson from Lower Manhattan. From there, options open up quickly. Camp Gateway Brooklyn is the official name for the campground at Floyd Bennett Field, and it is typically open from mid-May through mid-October, offering tent and RV sites inside Gateway National Recreation Area. Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park and Wawayanda State Park sit in the wooded Highlands of northern New Jersey and southern New York, while Camp Wyanokie is a rustic tent-only preserve on the edge of Norvin Green State Forest.
These five options cover the full range: an urban stopover with hookups, primitive national park camping, and forested state and community parks with lake access and trail networks.
Things to do near East Rutherford
East Rutherford itself is anchored by the Meadowlands Sports Complex, home to MetLife Stadium and American Dream. From Liberty Harbor RV Park, campers can reach the PATH subway or a ferry to Lower Manhattan, putting the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Liberty State Park within easy reach.
For outdoor activity, Beaver Pond Campground adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area within Harriman State Park, a destination with a beach and plenty of outdoor activities not far from New York City, and the park has more than 200 miles of trails, 31 lakes, and two beaches. Wawayanda State Park carries a 19.6-mile section of the Appalachian Trail and offers more than 60 miles of marked trails excellent for hiking and mountain biking, plus boating and fishing on Wawayanda Lake. Floyd Bennett Field adds paved bike paths, wooded hiking trails, and access to Jamaica Bay for birding and fishing.

Peak camping season in the region runs from late spring through early fall. Camp Gateway Brooklyn at Floyd Bennett Field is typically open from mid-May through mid-October. Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman opens for walk-in camping in mid-to-late April and then transitions to a reservation season running roughly early May through mid-October. The group campsites at Wawayanda State Park are open April 1 to October 31, under the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry.
Summer weekends fill fast. Harriman is a favored weekend getaway for New Yorkers, so weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible; bookings can be secured up to nine months in advance, and from mid-May to early October same-day reservations are permitted only until 3pm, with no walk-ins allowed. Bear activity is present at Beaver Pond, and campers are provided with bear habitat guidelines that must be followed at all times.
Liberty Harbor RV Park is the outlier: it operates year-round, which makes it the practical choice for winter and shoulder-season trips into the city.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

Kimmy T. - Oct 2026
Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

How to book near East Rutherford
Each nearby campground uses a different reservation system. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly through its own website or by phone. Reservations for Camp Gateway at Floyd Bennett Field are made online at recreation.gov, are required at least a day in advance, and stays are capped at 14 nights.
Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park is booked through the New York State Parks ReserveAmerica system up to nine months in advance, with a 3 p.m. cut-off for same-day bookings during peak season and no walk-ins. Wawayanda State Park online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov, and the park's group sites require a minimum of seven persons. Camp Wyanokie has no on-site staff and no phone number; all reservations must be made online, before 5pm on the date of check-in, for a maximum of seven days.
What to expect at area campgrounds
Expectations differ sharply between the urban and forested options. Liberty Harbor RV Park is essentially a paved marina lot with full hookups and skyline views, serving as a base camp for exploring New York City without driving a rig into Manhattan.
The state and national park sites are more rustic. Beaver Pond provides full-service bathrooms with showers and laundry facilities plus a dump station for RVs, but there are no electrical hookups, and select sites can accommodate a trailer or RV up to 30 ft. long. Camp Gateway offers seasonal showers, drinking water, flush toilets, picnic tables, and a dump station, but no site hookups. Camp Wyanokie is considered a rustic camping area and cannot accommodate RVs; there are no campsites with running water, toilets, electricity or WiFi. At Wawayanda water is not available at campsites and must be carried from the main office building, and there are no shower facilities.

How much does an RV rental in East Rutherford cost?
RV rental in East Rutherford is often more affordable than NYC-area hotels near MetLife Stadium. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 a night, campervans run $150 to $225, and Class C motorhomes average $175 to $250. Many listings offer weekly discounts, plus optional add-ons like generators, bike racks, or kitchen kits. For a cheap RV rental East Rutherford trip, book midweek, travel in the shoulder season (April or October), and look for hosts offering generous mileage. Bundling delivery with a longer stay often saves more than chasing the lowest nightly rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Rutherford%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in East Rutherford, NJ?
Good news: New Jersey does not require a special license for personal RV use, so your regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in East Rutherford. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission treats recreational vehicles as passenger vehicles for non-commercial use, even for larger Class A motorhomes. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home country before flying in. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward the process is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in East Rutherford?
Every RV rental in East Rutherford booked through RVezy includes a protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you hit the New Jersey Turnpike. The protection plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV for real financial peace of mind. During checkout you choose from different protection tiers based on the level of coverage you want, and the choice is yours, not the host's. Whether you're heading up to Harriman State Park or parking near MetLife Stadium for a game weekend, you can focus on the trip and not the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my East Rutherford RV booking?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy to every reservation, with refund amounts based on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. Because the policy is managed by RVezy and not the individual host, the rules are consistent across listings in East Rutherford. If a host cancels on you, RVezy helps you rebook or issues a refund or travel credit. Review the full policy on the RVezy Help Center before booking so you know exactly what to expect, then lock in your dates with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an East Rutherford RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental East Rutherford options are easy to find on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome, often with a small cleaning fee. Once you've got your rig, you and your pup have great local options: Liberty State Park in Jersey City offers leashed-dog waterfront trails with Statue of Liberty views, and DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst (about 5 minutes from East Rutherford) has boardwalks through the Meadowlands marsh. Heading north? Harriman State Park's Beaver Pond Campground also allows leashed pets. Message the host before booking to confirm pet size and any breed notes so check-in is smooth.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/libertystatepark.htmlCan the RV be delivered to me in East Rutherford?
Yes, RV delivery East Rutherford is one of the most popular features on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you're flying into Newark Liberty International Airport or staying near MetLife Stadium for a concert or Giants/Jets game. Many local hosts will drive the RV right to your campground, tailgate lot, hotel, or driveway, set up the hookups, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter for Delivery on the search page and enter your destination address to see fees, which usually scale by distance. It's hands-down the easiest way to handle a first time renting an RV in a busy metro area.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Rutherford%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I travel from East Rutherford in an RV?
Plenty far. East Rutherford's location near I-80, I-95, and the New Jersey Turnpike makes it one of the best launchpads on the East Coast for an RV road trip from East Rutherford. Popular destinations within an easy day's drive include the Delaware Water Gap (about 70 miles west), Cape May on the Jersey Shore (about 150 miles south), the Catskills (about 110 miles north), and Philadelphia (about 95 miles southwest). Many RVezy hosts offer generous or unlimited mileage, ideal for longer loops through New England or the Mid-Atlantic. Check each listing's mileage policy and message the host if you're planning anything ambitious.
nps.gov/dewa/index.htmWhere can I stay overnight in an RV near East Rutherford?
You have solid options for RV camping East Rutherford, even though the immediate Meadowlands area is urban. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (about 12 miles away) offers full hookups with Manhattan skyline views, and Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park (about 35 miles north in New York) provides electric sites in a scenic setting. For something more rustic, Camp Taylor Campground near the Delaware Water Gap is about 60 miles west. Overnight parking in the MetLife Stadium lots is sometimes permitted for ticketed RV tailgaters on specific event days, but it's not a free camping spot. Book popular sites well in advance for summer weekends.
parks.ny.gov/parks/145/details.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an East Rutherford RV trip?
Late April through October is the sweet spot for an East Rutherford RV trip, with May, June, September, and early October being the most pleasant. Summer (June to August) brings highs in the mid-80s°F with humid days, perfect for Jersey Shore runs, though afternoon thunderstorms are common. Fall foliage from late September through mid-October is spectacular in the nearby Ramapo Mountains and Hudson Valley, with daytime temps in the 60s°F. Winter rentals are available too, especially for MetLife Stadium events: look for listings with heated tanks and shore power. Spring (April to mid-May) offers great rates and blooming cherry trees at Newark's Branch Brook Park, about 10 miles away.
weather.gov/okx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting in East Rutherford?
You'll do great, and you're not alone. Many RVezy guests in East Rutherford are first-timers, and every host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup that covers driving, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, and tank dumping. If merging onto the Turnpike or navigating Route 17 makes you nervous, choose a smaller Class B campervan or a travel trailer under 24 feet, or book delivery so the host handles the metro driving for you. You can message hosts before booking with any questions. Once you clear the immediate Meadowlands area, you're about 30 minutes from open highway heading west on I-80, where driving gets dramatically easier.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002344873-Booking-an-RVWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on the Garden State Parkway or a generator hiccup at a campground is just a phone call away from being handled. Your host is also typically reachable through the RVezy app for quick questions about quirks specific to their rig. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip if anything needs escalation. East Rutherford's location means you're never far from major service centers in Paramus, Newark, or Secaucus, so help arrives faster here than in remote destinations.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my East Rutherford RV rental into New York or other states?
Yes, crossing state lines is one of the best parts of renting here, since East Rutherford sits just a few miles from the Lincoln Tunnel and George Washington Bridge. Most RVezy hosts welcome trips into New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and beyond, and travel anywhere in the continental United States is generally allowed. A couple of notes: Mexico travel is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limits, and Canada crossings depend on the individual host's policy, so message them before booking if that's on your itinerary. Also, RVs over 12'1" cannot use the Holland Tunnel, so plan to use the George Washington Bridge when heading toward NYC or New England.
panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/en/index.htmlWhat should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from East Rutherford?
Fuel budgeting is straightforward in New Jersey, which by state law is a full-service state where attendants pump your gas. Expect Class C motorhomes to get roughly 8 to 12 MPG, campervans 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailer setups around 10 to 14 MPG depending on the tow vehicle. New Jersey gas prices typically run near or slightly below the regional average. Fill up in NJ before crossing into New York or Connecticut, where prices often jump. Wawa stations near the Turnpike and Parkway are a local favorite for clean restrooms and decent coffee on the way out of town.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near East Rutherford?
Book early, especially for summer weekends. Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park opens reservations well in advance through the New York State Parks reservation system, and weekend sites near holidays often sell out quickly. New Jersey state park campgrounds, like Stokes State Forest and Worthington State Forest (about 60 to 75 miles away), accept reservations through the NJ DEP reservation portal. KOA properties such as the Newburgh/New York City North KOA accept bookings up to a year in advance. Aim for 3 to 6 months ahead for prime summer weekends, or grab a Sunday-to-Thursday stay 2 to 3 weeks out for easier availability.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/What's it like driving an RV around East Rutherford?
It's manageable with a little planning. The immediate East Rutherford area features Route 3, Route 17, and the NJ Turnpike (I-95), which are wide, well-maintained, and RV-friendly outside of rush hour (try to avoid 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM). Watch for low clearances on local roads near the Meadowlands: the Lincoln Tunnel works for most RVs but the Holland Tunnel (12'1" limit) often doesn't. Within 30 minutes you can be on I-80 west toward open Pennsylvania highways. Note that the Palisades Interstate Parkway and other NY/NJ parkways restrict commercial vehicles and trailers. Use an RV-specific GPS app to avoid parkways that restrict RVs.
state.nj.us/transportation/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near East Rutherford?
Most campgrounds in the New Jersey/New York metro region offer the essentials: 30/50 amp electric hookups, water fill stations, dump stations, hot showers, and laundry. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides full hookups with skyline views, while Beaver Pond at Harriman State Park has electric sites plus shared dump access. For dumping and fresh water on the road, the Vince Lombardi Service Area on the NJ Turnpike (in Ridgefield, just a few miles from East Rutherford) has facilities, and most regional KOAs offer dump access for non-guests for a small fee. Top off fresh water before leaving the metro, since many state forest sites only have hand pumps.
parks.ny.gov/parks/145/details.aspxWhat features and amenities come with a typical RV rental in East Rutherford?
You'll be impressed with how well-equipped most rigs are. A typical motorhome rental East Rutherford listing includes a queen or king bed, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, AC and furnace, and seatbelted travel seating. Many include extras like flat-screen TVs, outdoor speakers, awnings with LED lighting, and roof-mounted solar. Generators are common in Class C and Class A rigs, which is a big plus for tailgating at MetLife Stadium where shore power isn't available. Campervan rental East Rutherford options (Class B) are more compact but often include clever wet baths, induction stoves, and rooftop AC. Check each listing's amenities tab to filter for exactly what matters to your group.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Rutherford%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts on RVezy offer a great range of add-ons that can transform your trip: linens and bedding kits, kitchen packages with pots and dishes, generators for off-grid use, bike racks, camp chairs, portable grills, and tailgating setups for MetLife Stadium events. Most hosts in the East Rutherford area offer either in-person pickup at their location or delivery to your address, which is great if you're flying into Newark Liberty or LaGuardia. Mileage policies vary: some hosts include free miles per day, while others offer unlimited mileage for a flat add-on fee. Review the listing's add-ons section and message your host with any questions before booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002344873-Booking-an-RVHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in New Jersey through RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A security deposit is held separately from your booking payment as an authorization on your card before your trip, then released after a successful return inspection. To avoid any issues: do a thorough walkthrough video at pickup with your host, follow the mileage and generator-hour policies, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks (or pay the dump fee if it's offered). Easy in, easy out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I tailgate at MetLife Stadium in my RV?
Yes, and it's one of the most popular reasons people rent an RV in East Rutherford. MetLife Stadium allows RVs in designated oversized-vehicle lots for Giants, Jets, and major concert events, and you'll need to buy an oversized parking pass in advance through the stadium's parking site. Setup, grills, and pop-up canopies are typically welcome, though overnight stays are restricted to certain multi-day events. For a turnkey experience, book an RVezy host who offers delivery directly to the lot: they'll set up the awning and walk you through everything before kickoff. Arrive early, since gates often open hours before showtime and prime spots fill fast.
