Campgrounds and RV parks near Franklin Lakes, NJ

Franklin Lakes sits in Bergen County in northern New Jersey, within easy driving distance of both the New York Highlands and the Hudson Valley. RV renters typically choose between rustic state-forest sites in the surrounding Ramapo and Wyanokie mountains and full-hookup private parks closer to the metro area. Options range from primitive tent-only sites to paved RV pads with 50-amp service. Camp Wyanokie sits in 150 acres of forest at the edge of Norvin Green State Forest around a five-acre lake and is a rustic camping area that cannot accommodate RVs and does not offer campsites with running water, toilets, electricity or WiFi, though the property has two latrines, fire pits and charcoal grills. Wawayanda State Park and Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park handle small trailers, while Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City and Black Bear Campground across the state line in Florida, New York, cover larger rigs. Because Franklin Lakes lies roughly midway between rugged Highlands parks and the New York City waterfront, renters can pick a base that matches the trip: forest and lake days to the north, or skyline views and transit access to the east.

State park sites use central reservation systems. Online reservations for Wawayanda State Park are made at camping.nj.gov. For Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park, bookings run through Reserve America. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites becoming available at the 9-month window at set morning release times, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival. Camp Wyanokie reservations are handled through its partner, Campspot, and reservations are required for day use or overnight use, all reservations must be done through the on-line system, and there is no on-site staff. Liberty Harbor RV Park and Black Bear RV Park take direct bookings through their own websites or by phone, with Black Bear currently only accepting reservations over the phone.
