Campgrounds near Hillsdale, New Jersey
Hillsdale sits in Bergen County, roughly a half hour drive from the George Washington Bridge, which puts RV travelers within reach of two very different camping worlds. To the north and west lie forested state parks in the New Jersey Highlands and New York's Lower Hudson Valley. To the east and south, the metro shoreline offers rare urban RV access near New York City.
Harriman State Park is the closest developed campground option. Beaver Pond Campground adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area within Harriman State Park, located just 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge, and offers tent and trailer sites with comfort stations, showers, laundry, and a dumping station. Wawayanda State Park, farther west in the Highlands, adds lake access and a section of the Appalachian Trail. Camp Wyanokie, on the edge of Norvin Green State Forest, is a rustic tent-only property and does not accept RVs.
For city-focused trips, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City and Floyd Bennett Field within Gateway National Recreation Area offer the region's only true urban RV camping.
Things to do near Hillsdale
Hiking dominates the area. Harriman State Park has hundreds of miles of trails maintained in cooperation with the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, along with numerous lakes and swimming beaches. Wawayanda State Park consists of over 60 miles of well-marked trails in addition to a 19.6 mile section of the Appalachian Trail, which is restricted to hiking only.
Water activities include swimming at Lake Welch and Wawayanda Lake, paddling, and fishing for bass, pickerel, catfish, and stocked trout. In 2006, landlocked salmon were introduced to Wawayanda Lake, one of only a handful of deep New Jersey lakes with suitable year-round habitat for cold-water fish. Boat and canoe rentals are available at Wawayanda.
Basing an RV at Liberty Harbor RV Park or Floyd Bennett Field opens up direct access to Manhattan attractions, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, ferry rides, and the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge with 300 species of migratory birds.

What to expect at campgrounds
Facilities vary widely. Beaver Pond offers campsites for up to two tents and six persons per site, with select sites accommodating a trailer or RV up to 30 feet long; there are no electrical hookups for trailers.
