Campgrounds near Kenilworth, New Jersey
Kenilworth sits in Union County within easy driving distance of both the New York metropolitan waterfront and the wooded Highlands and Pine Barrens fringes of northern and central New Jersey. RV renters use the borough as a base for exploring Manhattan, the Jersey Shore, and the state and national parklands that ring the region.
Options near Kenilworth split into two camps. For urban access, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is positioned as the closest RV park to New York City, providing an ideal base for travelers seeking proximity to Manhattan, and Floyd Bennett Field, officially Camp Gateway Brooklyn, sits on the northwest side of the airport near Hangar B and welcomes both tent campers and RVs on Jamaica Bay. For a wooded stay, Camp Wyanokie is a rustic campground in West Milford surrounded by the Highlands, while Fla-Net Park in Flanders and Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold Township provide full-service and county-park camping farther inland.
Drive times from Kenilworth range from roughly thirty minutes to the Jersey City waterfront and Brooklyn crossings to about an hour or more to the Highlands and Monmouth County parks.
Things to do near Kenilworth
From Liberty Harbor RV Park, renters can reach Manhattan without driving in. A ferry runs from the park to Wall Street, and the subway is a short walk away, making car-free day trips straightforward. Outdoor recreation clusters north and south. Camp Wyanokie offers hiking through dense forests and rocky ridgelines near Norvin Green State Forest, one of New Jersey's premier hiking areas. Turkey Swamp Park has 4 playgrounds, a 17-acre lake for boating and fishing with boats available for rental, 8 miles of trails, and open playfields. At Floyd Bennett Field, visitors find hiking trails, historic airplane hangars and a recreation complex with bike rentals, plus an outdoor archery range with 8 to 10 targets, and Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge lies next door.

Seasons drive campground availability across the region. County and national-park campgrounds run a spring-to-fall calendar, while a few private parks stay open longer. Turkey Swamp Park's campground opens for the season on April 1 and features 64 wooded campsites, 52 of which can be reserved while 12 are available on a first come, first served basis, and it closes November 15. Camp Gateway Brooklyn at Floyd Bennett Field is typically open from mid-May through mid-October.
Late spring through early fall brings the widest choice and the heaviest demand. Summer weekends and holidays fill fastest at county and national park sites, and reservations for Turkey Swamp Park will be accepted after January 1st for that year.
Winter narrows the field to year-round urban options. Liberty Harbor RV Park is open year-round, making it the practical choice for cold-weather trips built around New York City.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

We had an amazing experience renting this camper van for the weekend! The van was clean, comfortable, spacious, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. It easily carried all of our gear, including a cooler and fishing poles, with plenty of room to spare. It truly had all the comforts of home—and more. From the kitchen essentials to the camping accessories, everything was provided, making our trip easy and enjoyable. Mark, the owner, was fantastic to work with. He took the time to thoroughly show us how to operate the van and explained all of its features and accessories before we left. His attention to detail and willingness to answer our questions made us feel confident and well prepared for our trip. We couldn’t have asked for a better rental experience. If you’re looking for a well-equipped camper van and an owner who genuinely cares about his renters, we highly recommend renting from Mark. We would definitely rent from him again!

How to book near Kenilworth
Reservation systems vary by operator. National Park Service sites use Recreation.gov: at Floyd Bennett Field, reservations can be made up to six months in advance online at Recreation.gov, or you can just show up and hope a site is available, and the maximum stay is 14 nights. At Turkey Swamp Park, reservations are available online or by calling the campground office, and a two-night minimum applies on weekends (Fri and Sat), but you can make a one-night reservation Sun to Thur. Private parks handle bookings directly: Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations by phone or through its website, and Fla-Net Park accepts reservations by phone or via listing partners. Camp Wyanokie is a rustic tent-only site booked directly with its operator, so it fits tent add-ons rather than motorhome stays.
What to expect near Kenilworth
Facilities and vibe differ sharply between the urban and wooded options. Liberty Harbor provides 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water hookups, and pull-through sites designed to accommodate big rigs, plus dump stations, modern shower and restroom facilities, laundry, and free Wi-Fi, though the park is essentially a parking lot with hookups rather than a traditional campground, with sites very close together and minimal privacy.
Inland parks feel more like traditional camping. Turkey Swamp Park features drinking water, a dump station, picnic tables, modern restrooms with hot showers and laundry, as well as fire rings for charcoal cooking and campfires. Fla-Net Park offers full hookups with electric, water, and sewer, plus restrooms, showers, and a dump station.
Expect rustic conditions at Camp Wyanokie: no running water or electric hookups, just wooded acreage, hiking trails, latrines, fire pits, and charcoal grills, so it suits tent campers rather than RVs.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Kenilworth, NJ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Kenilworth, NJ?
RV rental in Kenilworth is one of the most affordable ways to explore the New York metro area and the Jersey Shore. Expect roughly $95 to $175 per night for campervans and small travel trailers, $150 to $250 for Class C motorhomes, and $225 to $375 for larger Class A rigs. Booking midweek, traveling in May or September shoulder season, and choosing trips of 5 nights or more often unlocks weekly discounts from hosts. Pro tip: a cheap RV rental in Kenilworth becomes even better value when you split costs with a family, since you are saving on Manhattan-area hotel rates that easily top $300 a night.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kenilworth%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Kenilworth, NJ?
Good news: a standard New Jersey driver's license (or any valid U.S. or international license) is all you need to rent an RV in Kenilworth. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes, travel trailers, or campervans under typical rental sizes. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and ID verification happens securely through the platform. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before your trip and you're set to drive any Class B, Class C, or travel trailer in our Kenilworth fleet.
nj.gov/mvc/license/Is rental protection included when I rent an RV in Kenilworth?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Kenilworth automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Garden State Parkway with confidence. The protection plan covers eligible physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level (Basic, Standard, or Premium) during checkout, not the host. It provides meaningful financial peace of mind for first-time renters. Pro tip: if you are planning a longer New Jersey RV trip or driving into Manhattan-adjacent traffic, the higher-tier plan is a small upgrade that delivers a lot of calm for the price.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Kenilworth trip plans change?
Booking is genuinely low-risk: RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and every reservation includes a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, refunds depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. You will see your specific terms clearly before you confirm payment, and if a host cancels on you, RVezy provides a refund or travel credit. Pro tip: lock in a popular Kenilworth RV early for summer weekends or major MetLife Stadium events, you can always adjust later within policy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Kenilworth?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Kenilworth, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Some hosts charge a small pet fee or cleaning add-on, which you will see upfront before booking. Once you are on the road, your pup will love Watchung Reservation (about 8 miles away in Mountainside) with miles of dog-friendly trails, or Nomahegan Park right next door in Cranford. Liberty State Park in Jersey City also welcomes leashed dogs along its waterfront promenade. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet size, and pack a collapsible water bowl for humid Jersey summer afternoons.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/watchungreservation.htmlCan the RV be delivered to me in Kenilworth?
Yes, RV delivery in Kenilworth is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and a game-changer if you have never driven a big rig before. Many local hosts will deliver right to your driveway, to Newark Liberty International Airport for arriving travelers, or directly to your campground at places like Cheesequake State Park or Worthington State Forest near the Delaware Water Gap. The host sets up the RV, levels it, connects hookups, and walks you through every system. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location. Pro tip: if you are nervous about navigating Route 22 or the Garden State Parkway in a 30-footer, paying for delivery is the smartest money you will spend on the whole trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kenilworth%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I drive, and is unlimited mileage available?
You have real range from Kenilworth. Hosts set their own mileage policies, and many offer RV rental with unlimited mileage or generous daily allowances (typically 100 to 150 miles per day) with extra miles around $0.35 to $0.45 each. From Kenilworth you can easily reach Cape May (about 150 miles south), the Delaware Water Gap (about 70 miles northwest), the Catskills (about 110 miles north), Lancaster Amish Country in Pennsylvania (about 150 miles southwest), or New England routes north. Pro tip: if you are planning a long RV road trip from Kenilworth, filter for unlimited-mileage listings first, it can save you well over $100 on a week-long loop.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kenilworth%2C%20New%20JerseyWhere are the best campgrounds near Kenilworth, NJ?
You are spoiled for choice on RV camping in Kenilworth. Top picks include Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (about 15 miles east) for Manhattan skyline views and ferry access, Cheesequake State Park in Matawan (about 25 miles south) with wooded sites and salt-marsh trails, Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold (about 35 miles south) for family-friendly fishing and paddle boats, Round Valley Recreation Area in Lebanon (about 30 miles west) for clear reservoir swimming, and Worthington State Forest along the Delaware Water Gap (about 65 miles) for dramatic river views. Pro tip: New Jersey state park campsites open reservations months in advance through the official ReserveNJStateParks system, book by February for July and August weekends.
njstateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year for a Kenilworth RV trip?
Late April through October is prime time for RV camping in Kenilworth, with the sweet spots being May to mid-June and September to mid-October. Spring brings 60s to low 70s and the famous Branch Brook Park cherry blossoms (about 10 miles away in Newark) peak in mid-April. Summer runs warm and humid in the mid-80s, perfect for the Jersey Shore. Fall delivers crisp 50s to 70s and beautiful foliage in the Skylands. Winter dips into the 20s and 30s, and many campgrounds close, though year-round options like Liberty Harbor stay open. Pro tip: skip Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends if you can, the Parkway gets very busy.
weather.gov/phi/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You are going to do great, and you are not alone, first time renting an RV is the most common scenario in our Kenilworth fleet. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, generator use, and tank management, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Class C motorhomes and campervans drive much like an oversized van, and many first-timers prefer travel trailers delivered and set up by the host so they never have to tow. RVezy customer support and 24/7 roadside assistance are also a phone call away. Pro tip: plan a short shakedown trip to Cheesequake State Park before tackling a longer route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are covered around the clock. Every RV rental in Kenilworth includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of your protection plan, so if you get a flat tire on the New Jersey Turnpike, run into battery trouble at a rest area, or need a tow off the Garden State Parkway, help is one call away. Your host is also a great first resource for quick questions like how to switch the fridge to propane. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before pulling out, and snap a photo of your RV's VIN and plate for faster service.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Kenilworth RV rental to other states or into Canada?
Yes, interstate road trips from Kenilworth are encouraged, you are well positioned to explore New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Vermont, and beyond with no extra paperwork. Popular routes include Acadia National Park in Maine (about 480 miles), Niagara Falls (about 400 miles), and Shenandoah National Park in Virginia (about 280 miles). Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval, message them before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage limits. Pro tip: I-78 west and I-87 north are the smoothest big-rig corridors out of the metro area.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Kenilworth RV trip?
Fuel is very manageable in New Jersey, which historically has some of the lower gas prices in the Northeast (and yes, attendants pump it for you, it is the law). Expect 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, and 18 to 22 MPG for a campervan. For a typical 500-mile loop from Kenilworth, plan roughly $150 to $250 in fuel for a Class C at current prices. Pro tip: fill up just before crossing into New York or Pennsylvania where prices often jump, and use a fuel-finder app to locate truck-friendly stations along Route 22 and I-78 that can handle taller rigs.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Kenilworth?
For the best sites, book early. New Jersey state park campgrounds (Cheesequake, Worthington, Stokes State Forest, and others) take reservations through the official ReserveAmerica-powered NJ State Parks system, and summer weekends often fill within hours of opening. Aim for 4 to 6 months ahead for July and August, 2 to 3 months for spring and fall, and 2 to 4 weeks for shoulder-season weekdays. Private parks like Liberty Harbor RV Park and KOA properties book through their own websites. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, search Sunday-through-Thursday arrivals, you will find availability even on holiday weeks when Friday and Saturday are long gone.
njstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Kenilworth?
Kenilworth sits in Union County right off the Garden State Parkway and Route 22, so driving conditions are typical suburban Northeast: well-paved roads, heavy traffic during weekday rush hours (6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.), and the usual New York metro congestion. Plan to leave for the shore early on summer Fridays to beat the worst of it. Watch for low clearances on the Pulaski Skyway and parts of NYC, taller motorhomes should stick to interstates and avoid Manhattan entirely. Pro tip: the Garden State Parkway has restrictions on heavy trucks and large RVs on its northern section, so check vehicle class rules and consider the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) for north-south travel in a larger rig.
njta.com/travel-resources/travel-tipsWhat hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Kenilworth?
Most private RV parks within an hour of Kenilworth offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, and dump stations, Liberty Harbor in Jersey City and the KOAs in northern NJ are good examples. New Jersey state parks like Cheesequake and Worthington typically offer more rustic RV-designated sites with a central dump station rather than full hookups at every site, so verify amenities before you book. Potable water fill stations are standard. Pro tip: ask your host whether the RV's onboard fresh water tank is filled at pickup so you can boondock a night or two at Round Valley or at Harvest Hosts wineries in Hunterdon County without worrying about hookups.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/What's inside a typical Kenilworth RV rental?
You will feel right at home. Most motorhome rentals in Kenilworth come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds (Class C rigs often sleep 6 to 8), a kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, roof A/C, furnace, and seatbelts for every passenger. Campervan rentals are cozier with a bed, mini-fridge, portable stove, and often a pop-top. Many rigs include a generator, TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and some offer Wi-Fi hotspots. Pro tip: filter listings by Sleeps count and look for kitchen kit included in the description, it saves you a stop at the local Costco before pulling out.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kenilworth%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons can I get with my Kenilworth RV rental?
Hosts in Kenilworth offer some genuinely useful extras to make your trip easier. Popular add-ons include kitchen and linen kits ($30 to $75), outdoor camping chairs and tables ($15 to $40), portable grills, generators, bike racks, bedding bundles, and pet packages. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup, dump-and-refill service at return, and propane refills. Pickup is typically between 1 and 4 p.m. and dropoff by 11 a.m., though hosts often flex if their calendar allows. Mileage policies vary, so check the listing's daily allowance. Pro tip: bundling delivery plus a stocked kitchen kit costs less than you would think and turns your first RV trip from a logistics puzzle into a vacation.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kenilworth%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, no cash or off-platform transfers, which protects both you and the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's size and value, and it is released after dropoff once the host confirms the rig came back in good shape. Returning on time, clean, and refueled is the easiest way to get every dollar back. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff with the host, it takes two minutes and resolves most deposit questions before they ever come up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a great quick getaway from Kenilworth for a family RV trip?
You have incredible options within a half-day's drive for a family RV trip in Kenilworth. Cape May (about 150 miles south) delivers Victorian charm, dolphin cruises, and Wildwood's free beaches. The Pocono Mountains (about 90 miles northwest) offer waterparks, hiking, and Bushkill Falls. Hershey, Pennsylvania (about 160 miles) is a kid magnet with Hersheypark and ZooAmerica. Closer in, Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson (about 50 miles south) pairs perfectly with a stay at nearby Turkey Swamp Park. Pro tip: book a campervan rental in Kenilworth for two adults and two kids if you want easy parking at shore towns, or go full Class C for multigenerational trips, the extra bunk space is gold on rainy days.
