Lakehurst sits in Ocean County, New Jersey, on the northern edge of the Pinelands National Reserve and about 20 miles inland from the Jersey Shore. The area works well as an RV base for families splitting time between amusement parks, ocean beaches, and pine-forest recreation. Several private RV parks cluster in nearby Jackson Township, most within a short drive of Six Flags Great Adventure and roughly 30 to 40 minutes from Point Pleasant and Seaside Heights. Options closest to Lakehurst include Butterfly Camping Resort and Tip Tam Camping Resort in Jackson, both family-oriented parks with pools, planned activities, and full-hookup RV sites. Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground offers shaded sites on wooded acreage, while Pine Cone Campgrounds sits a bit farther north in the Millstone area. Timberland Lake Campground rounds out the group with waterfront sites in the Pine Barrens. Most private parks in this corridor accept RVs, travel trailers, and fifth wheels, and several offer cabin rentals for travelers without a tow vehicle.

Private campgrounds in the Lakehurst area are booked directly through each park, generally by phone or through the park's own website. Butterfly Camping Resort takes reservations by phone, and Tip Tam and Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground both recommend booking in advance, especially for summer weekends. Weekend and holiday stays commonly carry a two-night minimum. For state-run camping in the surrounding Pinelands, New Jersey State Park Service sites such as Brendan T. Byrne and Bass River State Forests are booked online at camping.nj.gov, the state's official reservation portal. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance of the check-in date. Backcountry sites along the Batona Trail also reserve through the same system. Summer weekends near Six Flags book out weeks ahead. Reserve as early as possible for July, August, and any holiday weekend.
