Campgrounds and RV parks near Llewellyn Park, NJ

Llewellyn Park is a private residential enclave in West Orange, New Jersey, sitting roughly a dozen miles west of Manhattan in Essex County. RV travelers using it as a trip anchor are essentially planning a metro-New York camping trip, which shapes the options: a small number of urban and suburban RV sites close in, plus state and national park campgrounds within an hour or so drive in the northern New Jersey and lower Hudson Valley Highlands. The closest full-service option is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, an RV basecamp with electric and water hookups, restrooms, showers, and easy access to Manhattan by PATH train. Rustic camping sits further north and west, including Camp Wyanokie in West Milford, a forested property with a small lake, hiking trails, and rustic tent sites without running water, toilets, or electricity. Across the state line, Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Recreational Area sits on the northwest side of the former airfield near Hangar B in Brooklyn, and Beaver Pond Campground - Harriman State Park adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area within Harriman State Park, a destination not far from New York City.

Each campground uses its own reservation channel. Online reservations for Wawayanda State Park are made at camping.nj.gov, the shared portal for New Jersey state parks. Beaver Pond Campground - Harriman State Park is booked through the New York State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica, where sites become available up to 9 months in advance. Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Recreational Area books through Recreation.gov, with reservations opening up to six months in advance. Same-day arrivals are possible when sites are open but risky in peak season. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly through its website or by phone. Weekend dates in June, July, and August should be locked in weeks or months out; midweek and shoulder-season nights are typically easier to secure closer to arrival.
