Campgrounds near North Arlington, New Jersey
North Arlington sits in Bergen County, minutes from Newark and roughly a dozen miles west of Manhattan. The town itself has no campground, but its position on the New Jersey Turnpike and Route 3 makes it a practical staging point for RV trips that combine New York City sightseeing with hiking in the New Jersey Highlands and Hudson Valley.
The closest full-hookup option is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, positioned as the closest RV park to New York City. It is open 365 days a year and accepts check-ins 24/7 even if the office is closed. Across the harbor, Floyd Bennett Field sits within the Gateway National Recreation Area on the Jamaica Bay shoreline in Brooklyn.
For a more traditional camping experience, drivers head north or west into the Highlands. Camp Wyanokie sits in the Wyanokie Highlands of Passaic County, while Beaver Pond Campground is situated within the 46,000-acre Harriman State Park in Rockland County, directly adjacent to the Lake Welch Recreation Area, with 125 campsites that can accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet in length. Wawayanda State Park adds lakeside sites in Sussex and Passaic counties.
Things to do near North Arlington
The main draw is easy access to New York City. From Liberty Harbor RV Park, the NY Waterway Ferry runs Monday to Friday to Pier 11 at the foot of Wall Street, and other ferry options within walking distance run seven days a week. The PATH train reaches Midtown and the World Trade Center in minutes.
Outside the city, Harriman State Park offers more than 200 miles of trails that range from easy to strenuous, 31 lakes, two beaches, and lake activities including swimming, fishing, paddling, boating, ice fishing, and ice skating. Wawayanda State Park has over 40 miles of marked trails plus a 20-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail, and its lake supports canoeing, fishing, and swimming.
Floyd Bennett Field adds biking, an archery range, kayaking on Jamaica Bay, and historic aircraft hangars within the Gateway National Recreation Area.

Season length varies sharply by campground. Liberty Harbor RV Park operates year-round, which makes it the default choice for winter and shoulder-season RV trips into the metro area. Beaver Pond and Wawayanda run standard state-park seasons that close in fall.
Beaver Pond typically opens in mid-April for walk-in camping only, with the regular reservation season running from early May through mid-October. Wawayanda State Park camping is open April 1 to October 31. The campground at Floyd Bennett Field operates on a summer schedule, generally open from mid-May through late October, with no hookups at the 12 RV sites.
July and August bring warm, humid weather and heavy demand for weekends. Spring and summer are the busiest seasons and the best times for paddling and swimming in the lakes. Fall brings cooler nights and foliage in the Highlands, while winter camping is essentially limited to Liberty Harbor.

Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

How to book campgrounds near North Arlington
Each campground uses a different reservation system. Liberty Harbor RV Park books directly through the park by phone or its website; the campground is open year-round and accepts late arrivals.
Beaver Pond Campground is reserved through New York State Parks on ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites released at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday during the peak booking window. At just an hour's drive from New York City, Harriman is a favored weekend getaway, so weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible.
Wawayanda State Park reservations are made online at camping.nj.gov. Floyd Bennett Field is booked through Recreation.gov, with reservations available up to six months in advance.
What to expect at campgrounds near North Arlington
Liberty Harbor is an urban RV park, not a traditional campground. The park is essentially a parking lot with hookups, and sites are very close together with minimal privacy. It offers 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water hookups, and pull-through sites for big rigs, plus a dump station, showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi.
Expect the opposite at Beaver Pond. The campground provides full-service bathrooms with showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station for RVs, but there are no electrical hookups. Alcohol is not permitted, and pets are not allowed.
Floyd Bennett Field accepts both tents and RVs but has no hookups at its RV sites. Wawayanda offers group tent sites with basic facilities; water is not available at campsites and must be carried from the main office, and there are no shower facilities.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in North Arlington, NJ?
An RV rental in North Arlington is more affordable than most travelers expect. Travel trailers typically start around $125 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $200 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes run $250 to $400 per night. Because North Arlington sits across the Passaic River from Newark and just nine miles from Midtown Manhattan, you will find a wide variety of RVs priced for every budget. To score a cheap RV rental in North Arlington, book midweek, travel in the shoulder seasons of April, May, or October, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book on RVezy to see RVs you can lock in immediately, which often have the best value pricing in the Bergen County area.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Arlington%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in North Arlington, NJ?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in North Arlington. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission does not require a special endorsement or Commercial Driver's License for recreational vehicles under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every RV on the RVezy platform, including Class A, Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers. To meet RVezy's approved driver requirements, you will need to be at least 25 years old and verify your ID during the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? Most hosts accept a valid foreign license paired with an International Driving Permit. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward the process is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my RV rental in North Arlington?
Every RV rental in North Arlington booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the New Jersey Turnpike or head into the Catskills with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), and each tier covers physical damage to the RV up to defined limits while it is in your care. Roadside assistance is included with every protection plan, meaning help is a phone call away if you get a flat on Route 17 or a dead battery at a campground near High Point State Park. It is a meaningful financial safety net that makes saying yes to your first RV trip a whole lot easier.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's the cancellation policy if my plans change?
You have real flexibility when you rent an RV in North Arlington. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the individual host), and it includes a money-back grace period after booking plus partial refund options depending on how far in advance you cancel from your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook with travel credits. You can review the exact terms during checkout and inside your RVezy account. Pro tip: book early to lock in the RV you want, knowing you have a cushion if your plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a North Arlington RV trip?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in North Arlington is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see RVs from hosts who welcome furry co-pilots. Some hosts charge a small pet cleaning fee, which appears clearly during booking. Once you are on the road, you will find dog-friendly spots nearby: Riverside County Park in Lyndhurst (about 5 minutes away) has open paths along the Passaic River, and Liberty State Park in Jersey City allows leashed pets on most pathways with skyline views of Manhattan. Note that New Jersey state park campgrounds only allow pets at designated pet-friendly sites such as Stephens State Park and Wawayanda State Park, so book those specifically if you are camping in a state forest.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/parks/Can the RV be delivered to me in North Arlington?
Yes, RV delivery in North Arlington is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who would rather skip driving a big rig through the Lincoln Tunnel or along the Garden State Parkway. Many hosts will deliver the RV directly to your driveway, a local campground, or a tailgate spot near MetLife Stadium (about 6 miles away). They will level it, hook up power and water, walk you through every system, and pick it up when you are done. Delivery fees vary by host and distance, and you will see the exact cost before you book. It is the easiest way to enjoy a North Arlington RV trip without ever getting behind the wheel of the motorhome.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Arlington%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I drive on an RV rental from North Arlington?
You have serious range from North Arlington. Many RVezy hosts offer generous daily mileage allowances or unlimited mileage, and any limits are shown clearly on the listing so there are no surprises. Popular RV road trips from North Arlington include the Jersey Shore at Cape May (about 155 miles south), the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania (about 90 miles west), the Catskills in New York (about 110 miles north), Acadia National Park in Maine (about 450 miles), and Washington, D.C. (about 225 miles south). If you are planning a longer trip, message the host before booking to talk through your route and any mileage add-ons. Tip: ask about weekly mileage packages, which often work out cheaper for long-haul itineraries.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Arlington%2C%20New%20JerseyWhere can I camp with my RV near North Arlington?
You are closer to great campgrounds than you would think for a metro location. The best campgrounds near North Arlington include Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (about 8 miles south), which offers 30 and 50-amp hookups, a dump station, and skyline views of Lower Manhattan; Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park, New York (about 40 miles north), with wooded sites; Camp Taylor Campground in Columbia, NJ (about 55 miles west) for a forested feel near the Delaware Water Gap; and Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Jefferson Township (about 35 miles west) for hookup sites in Morris County. For overnight RV parking, stick to designated campgrounds or private property with permission, since most North Arlington and Bergen County municipalities prohibit on-street RV parking.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/parks/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from North Arlington?
North Arlington's sweet spot for RV camping runs from late April through mid-October. Summer highs typically average in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit, and crisp fall foliage peaks in the Catskills and Poconos in mid to late October. May, June, September, and early October are the smart-money months: comfortable temperatures, fewer mosquitoes, and lower nightly rates. July and August are peak season with warm Jersey Shore weather, perfect for beach trips. Winter RV trips are doable with a four-season RV, but most New Jersey state park campgrounds close from late fall through early spring because water lines can freeze. Insider tip: book a fall trip to Worthington State Forest along the Delaware River for jaw-dropping leaf-peeping just 90 minutes from home.
weather.gov/okx/I've never rented an RV before, will I get help figuring it out?
First time renting an RV? You are in great hands. Every RVezy host in North Arlington provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the propane and water systems, slide-outs, leveling, and dumping the tanks. You can also message the host directly through the platform before booking with any questions, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Many North Arlington hosts even offer delivery and setup, so the RV is already leveled and ready when you arrive. Pro tip: ask your host for the best way to reach them during the walkthrough so you can send a quick photo through the RVezy app if anything looks unfamiliar once you are on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180814-Renting-an-RVWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are never alone out there. Every RV rental in North Arlington includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy protection plan, so help is one call away whether you have a flat tire on I-95, a battery issue at a rest stop on the New Jersey Turnpike, or need a tow back to a service center. RVezy customer support is also reachable through the app to help coordinate next steps, and your host is typically just a message away for quick questions about quirks specific to their RV. Pro tip: snap a photo of the registration and insurance card in the glovebox before you leave the driveway, so you have everything handy if you need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take an RV from North Arlington across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel from North Arlington is one of the best parts of an East Coast RV trip. You can freely cross into New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, and beyond, all popular routes for RVezy renters. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance coverage, so message the host directly through the listing before booking if Niagara Falls, Montreal, or Quebec City are on your bucket list. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend south of the border. Popular cross-border runs include North Arlington to Lake George, NY (about 215 miles) and to Acadia National Park, ME (about 450 miles).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a North Arlington RV trip?
Fuel is easier to budget than you might think. A Class C motorhome from North Arlington typically gets 8 to 12 miles per gallon, a Class B campervan can hit 18 to 22 mpg, and a travel trailer's mpg depends on your tow vehicle. New Jersey gas prices tend to sit near the national average, and the state still has full-service pumps only (no self-serve), so factor a moment for the attendant into your stops. For a weekend trip to the Poconos (about 180 miles round trip) in a Class C, expect roughly $60 to $90 in fuel at current prices. Pro tip: fill up in New Jersey before crossing into New York or Pennsylvania, since NJ gas is often noticeably cheaper per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near North Arlington?
Book early and you will have your pick of the best spots. New Jersey's state park reservation system opens bookings well in advance, and prime sites at High Point State Park, Wharton State Forest, and Stephens State Park sell out fast for summer weekends, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Aim to book 3 to 6 months ahead for peak weekends, and 2 to 4 weeks ahead for shoulder season. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City takes reservations directly through their website and fills up especially fast during NYC events. Pro tip: midweek availability is often wide open even in July, so a Tuesday-to-Friday trip is the easiest way to score a great site last-minute.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/parks/What are local driving conditions like around North Arlington?
Driving an RV around North Arlington is very doable once you know the lay of the land. The biggest things to watch are clearance restrictions on parkways (the Garden State Parkway and Palisades Interstate Parkway restrict many RVs and trailers, so use truck-legal routes like the New Jersey Turnpike, I-280, and I-80 instead), and rush-hour congestion through the Lincoln, Holland, and Goethals tunnels, which you should avoid between 6 and 10 AM and 3 and 7 PM. Once you are 30 minutes west on I-80, traffic clears and you are in beautiful rolling country. Insider tip: use an RV-specific GPS app to automatically route you around parkway restrictions and low bridges, a must in the New York metro area.
state.nj.us/transportation/commuter/roads/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near North Arlington?
Campgrounds within easy reach of North Arlington offer a nice range of amenities. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City features 30 and 50-amp electric, water hookups, a dump station, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. State park campgrounds like Stephens State Park and Round Valley Recreation Area provide picnic tables, fire rings, potable water spigots, and restroom facilities, but most New Jersey state parks do not offer sewer hookups at individual sites. For dumping tanks, you will find dump stations at Liberty Harbor, Mahlon Dickerson Reservation, and many private parks within an hour's drive. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving any park with potable water, since rural sites in Harriman or the Catskills may have limited fill-up points.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/parks/What's actually included inside the RV?
RVs available for rent in North Arlington come fully equipped and ready to roll. Expect comfortable beds (sleeping anywhere from 2 to 8 people), a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, and seatbelts for safe travel. Many motorhome rentals in North Arlington also feature a TV, generator for off-grid power, awning, outdoor speakers, and Wi-Fi or cellular boosters. Bedding, kitchenware, and basic supplies are often included; just check the listing details for what each specific host provides. Pro tip: ask your host if they include a leveling kit and sewer hose, which are essential at most campgrounds.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Arlington%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons can I get with a North Arlington RV rental?
You can customize your RV rental in North Arlington with a range of host add-ons to make the trip easier. Common extras include delivery and setup (often priced per mile from the host's location), generator hours, propane refills, bike racks, kayak racks, camp chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, and pet cleaning fees if your dog is coming along. Mileage policies vary: many hosts offer 100 to 150 miles per day included, with optional packages or unlimited mileage on longer trips. Pickup and dropoff are usually round-trip from the host's location, but some hosts in the Bergen County and Hudson County area can arrange one-way trips on request. Tip: message the host before booking to bundle add-ons, which often saves you money compared to adding them one at a time.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Arlington%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure on RVezy. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, and your funds are held by RVezy until your trip starts, so no cash ever changes hands with the host. A refundable security deposit (the exact amount is shown on the listing and typically falls in the $500 to $1,500 range depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, then released after the trip assuming there is no damage or excessive cleaning needed. To avoid issues, take dated photos of the RV's exterior, interior, and odometer at pickup and return, follow the host's mileage and generator limits, and return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels. That is it, you are set up for a smooth North Arlington RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs North Arlington a good base for visiting NYC by RV?
It is one of the smartest bases in the metro area. North Arlington sits just 9 miles from Midtown Manhattan, so renting an RV here gives you affordable accommodations without paying NYC hotel rates. The trick is to park the RV at Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (about 8 miles south), which has direct PATH train access into Lower Manhattan in about 15 minutes, plus a ferry to Manhattan nearby. From North Arlington itself, you are also about 90 minutes from the Delaware Water Gap, 2 hours from the Poconos, and 3 hours from the Jersey Shore at Long Beach Island. Insider tip: do not try to drive an RV into Manhattan, leave it parked and use NJ Transit or the PATH for an easy, stress-free city day.
