Campgrounds near Passaic, New Jersey
Passaic sits in northern New Jersey inside the dense metro area west of the Hudson River, so RV renters have two very different options within roughly an hour's drive: an urban hookup park close to New York City, and forested state and national park campgrounds in the Highlands and Hudson Valley.
The closest full-service option is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, which offers electric and water hookups with easy NYC access and sits a short walk from the ferry to Manhattan. For a woodsy stay, Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area and is located about 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge, making it the developed drive-in choice on the New York side.
Closer to Passaic on the New Jersey side, Wawayanda State Park has over 60 miles of well-marked trails plus a 19.6-mile section of the Appalachian Trail, though its campsites are tent and group sites without hookups. Camp Wyanokie provides rustic tent camping at the edge of Norvin Green State Forest, and Floyd Bennett Field, in Brooklyn's Gateway National Recreation Area, rounds out the mix for RVers who want a national-park base for the city.
Things to do in Passaic
From a base at Liberty Harbor RV Park, campers ride the ferry or PATH train into Manhattan for Broadway, museums, and the Statue of Liberty ferries at nearby Liberty State Park. Floyd Bennett Field puts campers within reach of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, with hiking on wooded paths, biking on paved trails, kayaking on the bay, and ranger programs on site.
Out in the hills, Beaver Pond Campground - Harriman State Park sits next to Lake Welch, and park activities include swimming, picnicking, and walking. At Wawayanda State Park, visitors can hike, swim at the lake beach, and paddle Wawayanda Lake, with canoes and rowboats available for rent and roughly sixty miles of marked trails to explore. Camp Wyanokie adds quiet fishing and access to Norvin Green trails for a low-key day away from the city.

Passaic camping seasons

March - May
63° / 43°F 102 mmWet, mild; NJ state campgrounds open April 1.
- summer
June - August
83° / 66°F 108 mmHot, humid; peak bookings and coastal mosquitoes.

September - November
65° / 49°F 90 mmCool nights, strong foliage, thinner crowds.
- winter
December - February
40° / 27°F 85 mmCold; most state-park loops closed for the season.
The camping season in the Passaic area runs mainly spring through fall. Camp Gateway at Floyd Bennett Field typically opens in May and closes in mid to late October, offers tent and RV camping, and has a dump station on site. Wawayanda State Park's campground is open April 1 to October 31, and Beaver Pond Campground follows a similar warm-season pattern. Liberty Harbor RV Park is the notable exception, staying open year round.
Summer brings the heaviest demand and the warmest lake swimming, but also the biggest crowds and bugs. Gnats and a few mosquitoes appear by late June at Floyd Bennett Field, and mosquitoes can be a bigger problem from July through October at that coastal site. Fall delivers cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong foliage across the Highlands.
Winter closes most tent and state-park loops. Wawayanda sits at 1,140 feet above sea level, receives heavy snow, and supports cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling, but for RV travelers without four-season rigs, Liberty Harbor is the practical cold-weather choice.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to book near Passaic
Reservation systems vary by property. New York State Parks camping reservations for Beaver Pond can be made up to nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites. Wawayanda and other New Jersey state parks book online through camping.nj.gov.
For Camp Gateway at Floyd Bennett Field, reservations are made on Recreation.gov up to six months in advance, and the maximum stay is 14 consecutive nights. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly through the park; call ahead, especially for summer weekends and holidays.
Camp Wyanokie is tent-only and rustic, so RV renters should plan a different site and use Wyanokie only for a day hike or picnic.
What to expect
Expect two very different camping styles. Liberty Harbor is urban and paved, operating as a fenced section within a marina parking area with basic hookups on level gravel. It functions as a staging area for city exploration rather than a traditional campground, and sites are close together with views of the harbor and Manhattan skyline.
State and national park campgrounds are wooded and quieter but more basic for RVs. Beaver Pond offers select sites that can accommodate a trailer or RV up to 30 feet long, but there are no electrical hookups for trailers at this campground, and pets are not permitted in Beaver Pond Campground or Lake Welch. Wawayanda has no water at campsites and no showers, and its sites are tent and group only. Bear country rules apply across the Highlands, so store food securely. Cell service is spotty at forested sites.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Passaic, NJ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Passaic, NJ?
RV rental in Passaic is affordable when you book through a peer-to-peer marketplace. Nightly rates on RVezy typically start around $125 to $175 for travel trailers and pop-ups, run $175 to $275 for Class C motorhomes, and reach $300 or more for larger Class A rigs. To score a cheap RV rental in Passaic, aim for shoulder months like late April or October, book midweek pickups, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Trailers tend to be the budget pick, but if you do not own a tow vehicle, a drivable motorhome with delivery included can actually save you money once you factor in hitch gear and setup time.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Passaic%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Passaic, NJ?
Good news: a regular New Jersey Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Passaic. The state does not require a special endorsement or commercial driver's license for recreational vehicles under 26,001 pounds, which covers virtually every motorhome, campervan, and travel trailer on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the booking flow, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit, then it is just keys, walkthrough, and go.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my Passaic RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Passaic booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into the booking. The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle within plan limits, giving you peace of mind without shopping for separate coverage. RVezy offers multiple protection tiers, and you (the guest, not the host) choose the level that fits your comfort during checkout. If you get a flat on I-80 or a dead battery at the campground, one call dispatches help any time of day or night.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a clear, standardized cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund eligibility after that window depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. The cancellation policy is set by RVezy, not the individual host, so it is consistent across every listing. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you find a comparable RV. Book early to lock in the best Passaic rigs, then relax knowing your reservation is protected.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Passaic RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Passaic is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see local hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) on board. Some charge a small pet cleaning fee, shown upfront before you book. Once you are rolling, take advantage of nearby leash-friendly spots like Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park, Great Falls National Historical Park in Paterson, and the trails at Eagle Rock Reservation. Pack a collapsible water bowl, a tie-out, and proof of rabies vaccination if you plan to stay at a campground in New York or Pennsylvania.
nps.gov/pagr/index.htmCan the RV be delivered to me in Passaic instead of me picking it up?
Yes, RV delivery in Passaic is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a large rig through North Jersey traffic. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV at your home, a campground, or a regional park within a reasonable radius. They level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees are typically based on distance, so destinations closer to Passaic County cost less. Message the host from the listing page to confirm your address and request a quote.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Passaic%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I drive, and are there mileage limits?
Most RVs near Passaic come with generous mileage allowances, and you will find plenty of listings that offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Any limits, along with the per-mile cost for overage, are shown clearly on the listing before you book. To put it in perspective, a Passaic RV trip can comfortably reach the Catskills (about 100 miles), the Poconos (about 75 miles), Cape May (about 160 miles), Lake George (about 220 miles), or Acadia National Park in Maine (about 450 miles). For a long-haul RV road trip from Passaic, filter for unlimited miles up front so you can wander without watching the odometer.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Passaic%2C%20New%20JerseyWhere are the best campgrounds near Passaic, NJ?
You have great options within an easy drive. Camp Wyanokie in West Milford (about 25 miles north) sits on wooded acreage next to Norvin Green State Forest with a small lake. Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park (about 35 miles) offers classic Hudson Highlands camping. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (about 12 miles south) gives you skyline views and ferry access to Manhattan. Worthington State Forest along the Delaware Water Gap and Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Morris County round out the list with hookups or rustic sites. For RV camping near Passaic, book six to eight weeks ahead in summer and reserve NJ state parks through the official portal.
camping.nj.gov/When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Passaic, NJ?
Late spring through mid-fall is prime time for a Passaic RV trip, with the sweet spot running from mid-May through mid-October. July and August deliver warm days in the 80s perfect for lake swimming, but September and early October are the local insider pick: 60 to 75 degree afternoons, fewer mosquitoes, and the Hudson Highlands and Delaware Water Gap turn brilliant with red and orange foliage. Winters in northern New Jersey dip into the 20s and 30s with occasional snow, so look for hosts with four-season insulated RVs, heated tanks, and shore power hookups if you want a winter base for skiing at Mountain Creek.
weather.gov/okx/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will be just fine, and your host has your back. Every RVezy pickup includes a full walkthrough where the owner shows you how to operate the propane, generator, slide-outs, awning, dump valves, and dashboard controls, plus their direct number for questions on the road. First time renting an RV in the Passaic area? Pick a Class C motorhome or a campervan instead of a 35-foot Class A, and plan an easy first night nearby at Camp Wyanokie or Harriman so you are not driving far on day one. Practice a few right turns in a quiet lot before you merge onto Route 46 or I-80.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360003243433-For-RentersWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on the New Jersey Turnpike, a dead battery at a Catskills overlook, or a tow situation on the Palisades Parkway is one call away from being handled. Your host is also a great second contact for quirky questions about their specific rig, like which switch runs the water pump. Save both numbers in your phone before you pull out of Passaic, snap photos of the RV at pickup, and you have everything you need to keep small hiccups from becoming big problems.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip routes from Passaic?
Passaic sits in a sweet spot for an RV road trip in almost any direction. Head about 75 miles west to the Delaware Water Gap and Poconos for waterfalls and the Appalachian Trail. Go 100 miles north to the Catskills for tubing on the Esopus and craft beer in Phoenicia. Cape May is about 160 miles south for Victorian charm and dolphin watching off the Jersey Shore. Acadia National Park sits about 450 miles northeast, and Niagara Falls is roughly 400 miles northwest. Trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals.
nps.gov/dewa/index.htmHow much should I budget for gas on a Passaic RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but it is easy to predict. Most Class C motorhomes near Passaic get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans average 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. New Jersey gas prices typically run near or just below the national average, and NJ is the only state that requires full-service fueling, so an attendant pumps for you. For a 500-mile loop to the Poconos and back in a Class C, plan on roughly $175 to $275 in fuel. Tip: fill up in New Jersey before crossing into New York or Pennsylvania, where prices are usually higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Passaic?
For the best campgrounds near Passaic, book as early as you can, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage in late September and early October. New Jersey state parks like Stokes State Forest and Worthington open reservations through the official NJ camping portal, and prime sites at Harriman State Park in New York fill fast through ReserveAmerica. Private parks like Camp Wyanokie usually take bookings several months out for peak weekends. Local insider tip: midweek Sunday through Thursday stays are far easier to grab and often cheaper, and many private parks offer 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekday nights.
camping.nj.gov/What are driving conditions like around Passaic?
Driving an RV around Passaic is manageable as long as you plan ahead. You are in the New York metro area, so highways like Route 3, Route 46, and I-80 get heavy at rush hour (roughly 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.). Important heads-up: the Garden State Parkway has low-clearance bridges and restricts trailers and many RVs on much of its length, so use I-287, I-80, and the NJ Turnpike instead. Avoid the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels with propane on board and take the George Washington Bridge upper level. Winter brings occasional snow and ice, so check NJDOT 511 before any November through March trip.
511nj.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Passaic?
Northern New Jersey campgrounds are well equipped. Most private parks, including the Delaware Water Gap KOA and Pleasant Acres Farm, offer 30 and 50 amp electric, fresh water hookups, sewer or dump stations, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi, with generally solid cellular coverage in the region. State park sites such as Harriman's Beaver Pond and Stokes State Forest tend to be more rustic, with electric at select loops and centralized dump stations and potable water fills near the entrance. Tip: top off your fresh water tank before heading into Harriman or Norvin Green, where individual sites usually do not have a water spigot at the pad.
nps.gov/dewa/planyourvisit/camping.htmWhat is included inside a typical RV rental in Passaic?
You will be impressed by how move-in ready these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Passaic includes a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, plates, and utensils, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower, a queen or king bed, convertible dinette, roof AC, furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts also include bedding, towels, outdoor chairs, a leveling kit, and a sewer hose. Optional add-ons often include a generator, BBQ, bike rack, or mobile Wi-Fi. Campervan rental options in Passaic like a Sprinter-based Class B are great for couples and city-adjacent parking, while a Class C is the family pick. Every listing spells out exactly what is included before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Passaic%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and drop-off work?
Hosts often offer extras that make your trip easier. Common add-ons for a rent an RV in Passaic booking include generators, portable BBQs, bike racks, kayak racks, outdoor mats, kid bedding bundles, and pet packages. Some Passaic-area hosts even offer pre-stocked groceries or campsite reservations as concierge services. Pickup is typically at the host's address in the Passaic area, with a 60 to 90 minute walkthrough; drop-off is at the same location and time agreed on at booking. Mileage policies and any dump-tank fees are listed upfront on every listing. Tip: ask about delivery to your campground if you would rather skip city driving entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Passaic%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through RVezy directly with a credit or debit card when you book, so there is no cash, app transfer, or side deal with the host. Most bookings also include a refundable security deposit, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the size and value of the RV, which is authorized (not charged) before your trip and released after the RV is returned in the agreed condition. To avoid deposit issues on your RV rental in New Jersey, take date-stamped photos and a quick video at pickup and drop-off, return the rig with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your agreement requires it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Passaic RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate trips are standard for RV rental New Jersey bookings, and most hosts welcome travel to New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and beyond, since the renter protection plan travels with you across U.S. state lines. Popular cross-state runs from Passaic include the Catskills, Acadia, the Outer Banks, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Heading to Canada? It may be allowed depending on the host and the specific insurance terms, so message the host before booking to confirm and ask RVezy support for written confirmation. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there.
