Campgrounds and RV parks near Pine Beach, NJ

Water activities dominate. Cedar Creek and the Barnegat Bay estuary are popular for canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding, with livery services that shuttle paddlers upstream for float-back trips. Fishing and crabbing are common along the bay and the Toms River. Double Trouble State Park protects thousands of acres of preserved pinelands and includes a walking tour of a former cranberry and cedar-sawmill village. Island Beach State Park and the Seaside Heights boardwalk sit about ten miles east across the Route 37 bridge. Farther north, Allaire State Park offers the narrow-gauge Pine Creek Railroad, the restored 19th-century Allaire Village, and a network of trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders along the Manasquan River.

The area follows a classic Mid-Atlantic pattern. Summer, from late June through August, is peak season: humid, warm, and busy, with shore traffic on weekends and sites at private resorts booking well in advance. School-break weekends and holidays fill fastest. Spring and fall are quieter and comfortable for RV travel. Allaire State Park operates its family campsites, shelters, and group sites from April 1 through December 15, with the trailer sanitary station running roughly mid-April through mid-October. Private parks along Route 9 tend to open earlier and close later than state facilities, and some remain open year-round. Winter travel is limited. Most private campgrounds reduce services or close, state park amenities wind down, and coastal weather brings cold rain, occasional snow, and strong wind off the Atlantic. Travelers planning off-season trips should confirm hookups, water, and dump-station availability before booking.

Private parks in the Route 9 corridor generally offer full hookups, pull-through sites suitable for larger rigs, laundry, camp stores, pools, and playgrounds. Sites are often wooded but on the smaller side and closely spaced, which suits families and groups more than campers seeking solitude. State-run camping at Allaire State Park is more rustic. Its 45 tent and trailer sites have fire rings and picnic tables, with flush toilets, showers, and a seasonal trailer sanitary station, but no individual site hookups. Ten shelters with wood stoves are available for cooler-weather stays. Expect sandy soil, pitch pine and oak canopy, mosquitoes and ticks in warmer months, and cellular coverage that varies by campground. Firewood should be purchased locally to limit pest spread.
