Camping near Pines Lake, New Jersey
Pines Lake is a lakeside community in Wayne Township, Passaic County, in northern New Jersey's Highlands region. The location puts renters within a short drive of state park campgrounds, private RV parks, and the trail networks of the New York and New Jersey highlands. Manhattan sits less than an hour east, which makes Pines Lake a practical staging point for both wilderness trips and city visits by RV.
Most camping in the area sits on public land managed by the New Jersey State Park Service or the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Wawayanda State Park is located in northern New Jersey in the state's Highlands region and spans parts of Sussex and Passaic counties. Across the state line, the Beaver Pond Campground adjoins the Lake Welch Recreation Area within Harriman State Park, and offers a beach and plenty of outdoor activities not far from New York City.
Closer to the metro core, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City serves renters who want an urban base with hookups. Together with Camp Wyanokie and Black Bear Campground, the area covers a wide range of trip styles from backwoods tent camping to full-service RV stays.
Things to do near Pines Lake
Hiking dominates the region. A stretch of the Appalachian Trail runs through Wawayanda State Park, the top of Wawayanda Mountain offers wide views, and more than 60 miles of trails are marked in the park. Harriman State Park adds hundreds of additional trail miles on the New York side, with lake beaches for cooling off after a climb.
On the water, Lake Wawayanda supports canoeing, kayaking, and fishing, and Beaver Pond Campground offers convenient access to swimming beaches, hiking trails, and neighboring state park facilities at Lake Welch. Rentals staying at Liberty Harbor RV Park can reach lower Manhattan by ferry or PATH train, which makes museum days and city meals easy add-ons for a family trip.
For a shorter outing, Camp Wyanokie sits in the Wyanokie Highlands and connects to popular ridge hikes like Wyanokie High Point.

Camping in this region is strongly seasonal. At Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park, camping begins on the last Friday in April and the last night of camping is the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. Within that window, the campground is divided into three sections, and the A Section does not open until Memorial Day weekend and closes on Labor Day. New Jersey state park sites at Wawayanda follow a similar spring-to-fall pattern, with the group campsites open April 1 to Oct. 31.
Summer is peak season. Warm, humid weather draws heavy weekend traffic to lake beaches and trailheads, and popular sites book weeks in advance. Thunderstorms are common on hot afternoons. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and strong foliage color across the highlands through October, which is often the best window for a comfortable RV trip.
Winter closes most public campgrounds in the area. Ice and snow are routine at higher elevations, and paved park roads may be gated. Renters looking for year-round options generally fall back to private parks with full hookups such as Liberty Harbor RV Park or Black Bear Campground.

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to book campgrounds near Pines Lake
Reservation systems split by state. In New Jersey, sites at Wawayanda State Park are booked through the state's online portal. Online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov. Group sites at Wawayanda may require contacting the park office directly.
Across the state line, New York State Parks use ReserveAmerica for Beaver Pond and other Harriman sites. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites only, reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only.
Private parks like Liberty Harbor RV Park and Black Bear Campground handle bookings on their own websites. For summer weekends and holiday periods, book two to three months out; shoulder-season weekdays are usually easier to grab on short notice.
What to expect on the ground
State park sites in this region lean rustic. Beaver Pond Campground features 125 campsites designed to accommodate up to two tents and six people per site, with select sites able to accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet in length. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with a flip-top grill. The campground provides full-service bathrooms with showers and laundry facilities, plus a dump station for RVs. However, there are no electrical hookups available. Alcohol is not permitted at Beaver Pond Campgrounds, and no pets are permitted.
Wawayanda's sites are similarly basic. Group sites have picnic tables, fire rings and a composting restroom. Water is not available at campsites; it must be carried from the main office building. There are no shower facilities. Renters bringing larger rigs should confirm site length limits before booking.
Black bears are active across northern New Jersey and the lower Hudson Valley, so food should be locked inside the RV overnight. Cell service can drop out inside the parks.

Good news: a standard New Jersey driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pines Lake, NJ. The state does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every rig listed on RVezy. RVezy offers multiple protection tiers, and you choose the level of coverage that fits your comfort during checkout, not the host. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Pines Lake RV trip plans change?
Booking an RV rental in Pines Lake is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy across the platform. That means consistent, predictable rules no matter which listing you choose. Refund options depend on how far in advance you cancel, and special circumstances may apply for events like severe weather that can affect Northern New Jersey. Full details and timelines live on the RVezy Help Center, so you can book that Pines Lake RV trip today knowing flexibility is built in. If a host cancels, RVezy will refund your booking or offer travel credits. Contact RVezy support anytime your plans shift.

Yes, finding a pet-friendly RV rental near Pines Lake is easy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see motorhomes and travel trailers in the Wayne area whose owners welcome your pup. Once you reach camp, Northern New Jersey has plenty of leash-friendly options: Wawayanda State Park (about 25 minutes north) and High Point State Park both allow pets at designated campsites, and the trails at nearby Ramapo Valley County Reservation are great for morning dog walks. Tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees, and bring a portable water bowl since summer humidity in Passaic County can climb quickly.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/wawayandastatepark.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or home in Pines Lake?
Yes, RV delivery is one of the most popular options on RVezy and a game-changer for first-timers in Pines Lake. Many hosts in the Wayne and greater Passaic County area will drive the RV to your driveway, a local campground, or even Worthington State Forest in the Delaware Water Gap, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. You skip the white-knuckle drive on Route 23 or I-287, and your trip starts with the awning already cranked out. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see which hosts serve the 07470 zip code.

weather.gov/okx/I am first time renting an RV near Pines Lake. Will I actually know how to use it?
Yes, and you will feel confident by the end of day one. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup or delivery, covering propane, water, the generator, slide-outs, dump valves, and the awning. They share their phone number so you can text a quick question from your campsite at Stokes State Forest or Wawayanda. RVezy's 24/7 roadside assistance is also a call away. Tip for first time renting an RV in the Pines Lake area: choose a Class C motorhome around 24 to 28 feet. It drives like a large van, fits most Northern New Jersey campsites, and parks easily at trailheads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Pines Lake trip?
You are covered. Every RV rental in Pines Lake, NJ booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on I-287, a dead battery at Ringwood State Park, or a tow on the Garden State Parkway is one phone call away. The roadside team coordinates the service, and your host is also reachable through the RVezy app to troubleshoot anything specific to their rig. Tip: snap a photo of the propane tank, fuse panel, and water heater location during your walkthrough so you can describe issues quickly and get back to enjoying your Skylands road trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Pines Lake RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, crossing state lines is part of the fun. From Pines Lake you are well positioned for an interstate RV road trip: New York's Catskills (about 75 miles), Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains (90 miles), Connecticut's Mystic Seaport (140 miles), Vermont's Green Mountains (220 miles), and Virginia's Shenandoah (300 miles) are all within reach. Travel into Canada is allowed on many listings for longer northern loops, but you must confirm with the host before booking because insurance coverage and border policies vary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Tip: message the host with your full route, and they will confirm everything in writing through the platform.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Pines Lake RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but it is easy to budget for your Pines Lake RV trip. Expect about 8 to 10 mpg for Class A motorhomes, 10 to 14 mpg for Class C, 15 to 20 mpg for a campervan rental near Pines Lake such as a Sprinter-style Class B, and roughly 12 to 16 mpg combined for a truck towing a travel trailer. New Jersey gas prices typically run near the national average, and full-service is mandatory at every pump, so just stay in your seat. For a weekend trip to High Point State Park and back (about 110 miles round-trip), budget roughly $60 to $90 in a Class C.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Pines Lake?
Book early and your Pines Lake summer is set. New Jersey state park campsites, including popular Wawayanda, Stokes, and Worthington State Forest, accept reservations through the NJ state parks reservation system several months in advance, and prime July and August weekends fill quickly. For private parks like Panther Lake Camping Resort or Cedar Ridge Campground, aim for 60 to 90 days out. Shoulder season (mid-September through October) and midweek summer stays often have last-minute availability. Tip: set a calendar reminder for the reservation window opening so you can grab a lakefront site at Wawayanda the moment availability drops.
njportal.com/DEP/NJOutdoors/What are the local driving conditions like around Pines Lake, NJ?
Driving an RV around Pines Lake is very manageable once you know the area. Pines Lake sits in Wayne Township, just off I-287 and Route 23, both wide highways that handle large rigs comfortably. A key tip: avoid the Garden State Parkway south of Exit 105 in a tall RV due to commercial vehicle and height restrictions on parts of the parkway. Use I-95, I-287, and I-78 instead. Local roads around the lake are quiet and residential, so take corners slowly. Rush hour (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM) backs up I-287, so plan departures for midmorning or after dinner for a smoother roll out.
state.nj.us/transportation/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Pines Lake?
Campgrounds within an hour of Pines Lake offer a full range of amenities. Private parks like Panther Lake Camping Resort and Cedar Ridge Campground have full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. NJ state parks like Stokes and Wawayanda generally offer more rustic setups with potable water spigots and dump stations on-site, but limited or no individual sewer hookups (a generator-equipped RV handles this well). Spruce Run Recreation Area offers sites with electric hookups. Tip: fill your freshwater tank before leaving the host's driveway in Wayne so you are ready for any site, and use the campground dump station on your way out.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/sprucerun.htmlWhat is included inside a typical RV rental in Pines Lake?
Most RV rentals near Pines Lake come ready to camp from the moment the host hands over the keys. Expect a full kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and sink; a bathroom with toilet and shower; comfortable beds (often a queen plus a convertible dinette and sofa); seatbelted seating for travel; air conditioning; a furnace for cool Skylands nights; and a propane tank. Many listings include a generator, outdoor awning, and add-ons like bikes or camp chairs. Tip: filter by sleep count on RVezy and review each listing's included amenities to match the rig to your group size and travel style.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pines%20Lake%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Pines Lake?
When you rent an RV in Pines Lake, hosts typically offer a range of optional add-ons that make the trip smoother: linen and towel packages, kitchen kits with pots and dishes, generator use (often with a daily free allowance and a per-hour fee beyond it), bike racks, kayaks, and propane refills. Delivery and setup pricing varies by host, and many include free delivery within a short radius of Wayne. Pickup is usually at the host's driveway with a 60-to-90 minute walkthrough. Tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a kitchen kit, and you can show up at the campground with just your clothes and food.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pines%20Lake%2C%20New%20JerseyHow do payments and the security deposit work on RVezy in Pines Lake?
Payment for your Pines Lake RV rental is fully handled through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash or a card directly to the host. You pay your booking total securely by credit card when you reserve, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup (the amount varies by RV class and host). As long as you return the RV in the same condition, with the agreed fuel and propane levels and within the mileage allowance, the hold is released after your trip. Tip: take timestamped photos at pickup and dropoff for a smooth, drama-free deposit return.
