Camping near Ramtown, New Jersey
Ramtown is an unincorporated community in Howell Township, Monmouth County, sitting in the coastal-plain corridor between the Jersey Shore beaches and the Pine Barrens. The location puts RV renters within a short drive of state park camping, county park campgrounds, and privately owned RV resorts, most of them clustered along the I-195 corridor between Freehold and Jackson.
Allaire State Park is best known for its historic 19th-century iron-making town, Allaire Village, and the Pine Creek Railroad, a narrow-gauge train ride. A short drive west, the 2,388-acre Turkey Swamp Park offers a natural setting for camping and has two campgrounds located in the park. Private options round out the mix: Tip Tam Camping Resort and Butterfly Camping Resort both sit near Jackson, and Pine Cone Campgrounds is near Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold.
The area suits families renting an RV for a first trip. Sites are wooded, distances between campgrounds and attractions are short, and both the shore and Six Flags Great Adventure are reachable as day trips from any of the campgrounds listed here.
Things to do near Ramtown
Allaire State Park is the anchor attraction. The park is known for its historic 19th-century iron-making town, Allaire Village, and the Pine Creek Railroad narrow-gauge train ride, with additional activities including fishing, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing, plus a visitor center and museum. The Manasquan River, which winds through the park, provides freshwater fishing.
Turkey Swamp Park has its own draws for families. The park has 4 playgrounds (one inside the campground), a 17-acre lake for boating and fishing with boats available for rental, 8 miles of trails, open playfields, vending machines, and large-group picnic facilities for rent.
Beyond the parks, Point Pleasant, Belmar, and Seaside boardwalks are short drives east, and Six Flags Great Adventure and its safari park are minutes from the Jackson-area campgrounds.

Camping season in this part of New Jersey is bounded by the state and county park calendars. Allaire State Park campsites are open from April through mid-December. Turkey Swamp Park's family campground is open from April 1 to November 15 and accommodates tents and travel trailers. Private resorts run shorter seasons, generally opening in April and closing in October.
Summer is the busy season. Sites near Six Flags and the Jersey Shore fill fastest on weekends and around July 4th and Labor Day. Campsites, and especially cabins, book up fast for summer and holiday weekends, so booking several months in advance is advised.

Jacek was amazing with communication and having the advantages being able to have the RV delivered and set up was amazing. I wouldn’t have been able to do it myself. The camper was super clean, and comfortable. We had a great time.

Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

How to book campsites near Ramtown
New Jersey state park campgrounds use a central reservation system. Online reservations for Allaire can be made at camping.nj.gov, and reservations can also be made over the phone through the park office. Online reservations can be made up to a year in advance, with a two-night minimum stay on most sites.
Monmouth County parks are booked separately through the county park system. Reservations are available online or by calling the Campground office at 732-462-7286 after 12 p.m. Of the 64 wooded family campsites, 52 are reservable with a prepaid fee for at least 2 nights, and the other 12 sites are first-come, first-served. Reservations will be accepted after January 1st for that year.
Private resorts (Tip Tam, Butterfly, Pine Cone) take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. For holiday weekends, book several months out.
What to expect on-site
Sites in this area are generally wooded and level, with a mix of full-hookup RV sites at the private resorts and more basic sites at the public parks. Turkey Swamp Park's 64 pull-through campsites can accommodate tent campers, travel trailers and motor homes up to 40 feet with up to 6 people. Allaire's campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers and an RV dump station, and each site has a table, fire ring and grate.
Private resorts add pools, playgrounds, and organized activities. Pine Cone Campgrounds offers full hookups with 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections, along with hot showers, laundry facilities, a camp store, and a swimming pool plus courts and playfields.
Two practical notes: black bears are present in New Jersey parks, so follow bear-safety protocols, and ticks are a real concern in wooded areas, so wear long pants and check for ticks after hikes.
