Camping near Waldwick, New Jersey
Waldwick sits in Bergen County in northeast New Jersey, roughly 25 miles from Manhattan and within a short drive of the New York Highlands and the Ramapo Mountains. The area works as a practical base for RV renters who want access to New York City sightseeing on one side and forested state parks on the other, without committing to a long drive.
Options within an hour of town cover a wide range of styles. Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park sits about 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge and offers tent and trailer sites, as well as accommodations for larger vehicles. Camp Wyanokie in West Milford is a rustic camping area that cannot accommodate RVs and offers no running water, electricity, or WiFi. Within Wawayanda State Park, this Division of Parks and Forestry campground operates from April through October with drive-in, walk-in, and boat-in access options.
For full-hookup RV stays, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is positioned as the closest RV park to New York City and provides 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water hookups, and pull-through sites designed to accommodate big rigs, and Black Bear Campground in Orange County sits about 60 miles from Times Square with full hook-up sites and 50-amp service, operating year round.
Things to do near Waldwick
Hiking is the dominant draw. Harriman State Park covers 48,556 acres in Rockland and Orange counties, features 31 lakes, multiple streams, and public camping, and its over 200 miles of trails are maintained by volunteers from the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. The Beaver Pond campground adjoins Lake Welch and offers convenient access to swimming beaches, hiking trails, and neighboring state park facilities.
Wawayanda draws a mix of paddlers, anglers, and hikers. A twenty-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail runs through the park, while the top of Wawayanda Mountain offers sensational views. Canoeists, boaters, swimmers and fishermen relax in the lake, while hikers explore the park's sixty miles of trails. Wawayanda Lake supports largemouth and smallmouth bass, perch, pickerel, brown and rainbow trout, and landlocked salmon introduced to Wawayanda Lake.
For city sightseeing, Liberty Harbor puts renters within a short ferry or PATH ride of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

The regional camping calendar is driven by weather and by which parks close in the off-season. New Jersey state park campsites at Wawayanda run on a fixed window: the campground is open April 1 to Oct. 31. New York state park campgrounds like Beaver Pond generally operate on a similar warm-season schedule. Private and urban parks stay open longer: Liberty Harbor RV Park is open 365 days a year and accepts check-ins 24/7 even if the office is closed, and Black Bear Campground is located in scenic Orange County about 60 miles from Times Square and operates year round.
Summer weekends are the busiest window and fill earliest, especially at Beaver Pond, which serves the New York metro area. The campground tends to be quieter during weekdays and gets busier on weekends with families. Fall brings cooler nights, strong foliage color across the Highlands, and easier availability once school is back in session.
Winter camping is realistic mainly at full-hookup private parks. State-park facilities in both New Jersey and lower New York close for the season, and snow and ice can complicate access to mountain-road campgrounds.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to book near Waldwick
State-park sites in the two closest systems use different platforms. Online reservations for Wawayanda State Park are made through New Jersey's DEP portal at camping.nj.gov, which handles the park's group sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and a composting restroom. For New York State Parks including Beaver Pond, camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, and sites become available at the 9-month window from March 15 through Labor Day at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites, and reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center at 1-800-456-2267.
Private parks book direct. Liberty Harbor and Black Bear Campground both take reservations through their own websites or by phone, and Liberty Harbor's downtown location and limited site count mean summer weekends should be booked well ahead.
What to expect near Waldwick
Amenities vary widely by campground, so match the site to the rig. Beaver Pond offers campsites, some with a raised platform, for up to two tents and six persons per site, and select sites can accommodate a trailer or RV up to 30 ft. long, with a picnic table and fire ring at each site and shared full-service bathrooms centrally located. There are no electrical hookups for trailers, and alcohol is not permitted. Comfort stations, showers, laundry facilities and a dumping station are on site, and no pets are allowed.
Wawayanda's campground is group-oriented and rustic. Water is not available at campsites and must be carried from the main office building, and there are no shower facilities.
Urban and private RV parks trade scenery for convenience. Campers describe Liberty Harbor RV Park as a basic but practical option with a prime location, essentially a parking lot with hookups rather than a traditional campground. Black Bear Campground has 160 sites, no tent camping, RVs only, and accepts big rigs.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Waldwick, NJ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Waldwick, NJ?
An RV rental in Waldwick, NJ fits a wide range of budgets thanks to RVezy's peer-to-peer marketplace. Travel trailers typically run about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes around $175 to $300 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes $300 and up. Because Waldwick sits in Bergen County just 25 miles from Manhattan, the smartest way to find a cheap RV rental in Waldwick is to book midweek, travel in the May or October shoulder seasons, and use the price filter when searching. Pro tip: book a travel trailer with delivery to a campground like Beaver Pond and you skip Manhattan-area traffic and tolls entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Waldwick%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Waldwick, NJ?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Waldwick, NJ. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission does not require a Commercial Driver's License or any special endorsement to drive a motorhome for personal use, even for larger Class A rigs. On RVezy, the approved driver must generally be 25 or older with a valid license, and identity verification happens right inside the platform during booking. Visiting Bergen County from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit along with your home-country license. Most first-time renters are surprised how easy the requirements really are.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Waldwick protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Waldwick comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 17 or the Palisades Parkway with confidence. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip and gives you real financial peace of mind. You choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host, so you stay in control. Combined with roadside help just a phone call away if you get a flat near the Ramapo Mountains, your motorhome rental in Waldwick is set up for a worry-free trip from the moment you pull out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change after I book my Waldwick RV?
Booking your Waldwick RV trip is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy. That means consistent rules across every listing, including a money-back grace period right after you book and additional protections if something unexpected disrupts your plans. You will see the full cancellation details on the RVezy site before you confirm. Pro tip: locking in your dates early gives you the best selection of pet-friendly and delivery-ready rigs near Waldwick, NJ, and you still have flexibility built in. Book confidently, then start mapping that drive up to the Catskills.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Waldwick, NJ?
Yes, plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Waldwick. Just flip on the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see rigs that welcome your dog, and message the host if you have a larger breed or multiple pets. Waldwick is surrounded by dog-friendly green space: Ramapo Valley County Reservation in Mahwah (about 15 minutes away) has miles of leashed-dog trails, and Saddle River County Park's paved loops are perfect for a morning walk. Heading farther afield to Stokes State Forest? Ask about the campground's designated pet-friendly sites when you reserve.
co.bergen.nj.us/parks-recreationCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Waldwick?
Yes, RV delivery in Waldwick is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers nervous about navigating Bergen County's tight suburban streets. Many local hosts will drive the rig to your driveway, a nearby campground like Beaver Pond in Harriman State Park, or even a friend's place, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts offering this service and their per-mile rates. Pro tip: delivery to Camp Glen Gray or Campgaw Mountain saves you the stress of backing a 30-foot rig into a wooded site.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Waldwick%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I drive on my Waldwick RV trip?
You have serious range from Waldwick, NJ. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with options ranging from about 100 miles per day to unlimited mileage, so use the listing filters to match your itinerary. From Waldwick, popular routes include Harriman State Park (about 25 miles), the Delaware Water Gap (about 60 miles), the Catskills around Phoenicia (about 105 miles), and Cape May (about 165 miles). If you are planning a longer RV road trip from Waldwick like Niagara Falls (about 400 miles) or the Outer Banks (about 480 miles), filter for unlimited-mileage listings and message the host to confirm your route works.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Waldwick%2C%20New%20JerseyWhere can I camp with my RV near Waldwick, NJ?
You have great options for the best campgrounds near Waldwick, NJ. Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park (about 25 miles north) accepts RVs and offers a dump station, showers and laundry. Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY (about 35 miles) offers full 30/50-amp hookups year-round. Stokes State Forest in Branchville (about 50 miles) has multiple camping areas with dump stations. Closer to home, Campgaw Mountain Reservation in Mahwah is a convenient short-trip option. Pro tip: there is no overnight RV parking in Waldwick itself, so book a campground site ahead.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/beaver-pond-campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=160300When is the best time for an RV trip from Waldwick, NJ?
Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping near Waldwick. Summer (June to August) typically brings high temperatures of 75 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit and is peak season for swimming at Lake Welch and Stony Lake. Early fall (mid-September to late October) is a local favorite: cooler 55 to 72 degree days, brilliant foliage in the Ramapo Mountains, and far fewer crowds. Spring (April to May) generally ranges 50 to 70 degrees with blooming dogwoods along Saddle River Parkway. Winter highs typically run 20 to 40 degrees, so if you book a cold-weather trip, filter for RVs with heated tanks and a working furnace.
weather.gov/okx/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay in Waldwick?
Definitely. First time renting an RV in Waldwick is easier than people expect because every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, and dump procedure. You can also message hosts before booking with any question. Choose a Class C motorhome or a travel trailer under 25 feet if you are nervous about size, since they handle a lot like driving a large pickup. The main roads around Waldwick (Route 17, Franklin Turnpike) are wide and well-marked. Pro tip: book delivery for your first trip so the host parks and sets up the RV for you, and you just enjoy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180393-GuestsWhat happens if I break down or have an issue on the road?
You are covered. Every RV rental in Waldwick, NJ booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on the Garden State Parkway or a dead battery at a Catskills campsite is just a phone call away from help. You can also reach the RVezy support team and message your host directly through the app. Pro tip: before you leave Waldwick, snap photos of the spare tire location, the generator switch, and the propane shutoff during your walkthrough. That way if anything happens between here and the Delaware Water Gap, you will know exactly what to point out to the roadside tech.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Waldwick RV rental into New York, Pennsylvania, or Canada?
Yes, interstate trips are part of the fun of an RV road trip from Waldwick. Crossing into New York for Harriman or Bear Mountain (about 25 miles), or Pennsylvania for the Pocono Mountains (about 75 miles), is normal and most hosts welcome it. Cross-border trips into Canada (Montreal is about 380 miles) may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so message before you book to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: tell your host your full route up front so they can confirm everything works for your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Waldwick?
Plan smart and fuel will not blow up your budget. New Jersey is a full-service-only state, so an attendant pumps your gas, and NJ prices are often slightly lower than neighboring New York. Class B campervans typically get about 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs run about 6 to 10 MPG. A round trip from Waldwick to Harriman State Park (about 50 miles total) in a Class C costs roughly $20 in gas at recent prices. A weeklong run to the Catskills and back? Budget around $120 to $180. Fill up in Waldwick or Mahwah before crossing into New York to save real money.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Waldwick?
Book early and you will get the best sites. New York State Parks (including Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman) open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and summer weekends can fill within hours of opening. New Jersey state parks like Stokes State Forest take reservations through the NJ state parks reservation portal, also up to several months ahead. For private parks like Black Bear Campground or Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort, 4 to 6 weeks ahead is usually safe. Pro tip: if you missed peak booking, Harriman keeps a small number of first-come, first-served sites, and same-day NY State Park reservations stay open until 3 PM on arrival day.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What is driving an RV around Waldwick actually like?
It is more manageable than you think. Waldwick is a quiet Bergen County borough, but you are 25 miles from the George Washington Bridge, so timing matters: avoid Route 17 and the Garden State Parkway between 6 to 10 AM and 3 to 7 PM on weekdays. New Jersey generally limits RV width to 96 inches and length to 40 feet on state roads, and many bridges and parkways have height limits, so plan routes for rigs up to about 13.5 feet tall. Pro tip: do not drive an RV into Manhattan. Instead, head north or west, where Route 287 and the Palisades Parkway open up into mountain country fast.
state.nj.us/transportation/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Waldwick?
Plenty. Most parks within an hour of Waldwick offer the essentials and then some. Beaver Pond Campground (Harriman State Park) has restrooms, hot showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station, though no individual water or electric hookups at sites. Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY offers full 30/50-amp hookups, sewer, Wi-Fi, and a pool. Stokes State Forest has drinking water, restrooms, and a dedicated RV dump station. To refill fresh water in a pinch, most full-hookup private parks along Route 17 will let you top off. Pro tip: arrive at Beaver Pond with full fresh tanks since there are no on-site hookups.
parks.ny.gov/parks/145What is actually inside the RVs I can rent in Waldwick?
Today's rentals are basically apartments on wheels. Most motorhome and travel trailer listings in Waldwick include a real bed (queen or king), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control, and dining seating with seatbelts for travel. Larger Class A and Class C rigs often add a TV, outdoor speakers, awning, and onboard generator for off-grid power. Wi-Fi varies by host, and Bergen County has strong cell coverage, so a personal hotspot works great. Pro tip: filter by the Sleeps count for a family RV trip in Waldwick, and check listing photos closely to see exactly which appliances and entertainment options are included.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Waldwick%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about in Waldwick?
Hosts in Waldwick offer a great mix of useful extras. Common add-ons include camping chairs and tables, kitchen kits, bedding and linen packages, bike racks, kayaks, generators for travel trailers, and propane refills, with prices set by each host. Delivery is the big one in Bergen County: many hosts will drive your campervan rental in Waldwick or motorhome straight to your campground for a per-mile fee, then return to pick it up. Mileage policies range from around 100 miles per day included up to unlimited mileage. Pro tip: ask the host about a late checkout for an extra hour to clean and unload, especially if you are returning on a Sunday after a long drive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Waldwick%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Waldwick?
Payment is simple and secure on RVezy. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, so your money is protected. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV class) and released back to your card after the trip if there is no damage and the rig comes back clean and at the right fuel and propane levels. Pro tip: do a thorough walkthrough at pickup in Waldwick, take time-stamped photos and short videos of the exterior, interior, generator hours, and odometer, and send them through the RVezy chat. That documentation makes deposit release fast and stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Waldwick during the winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals near Waldwick are absolutely doable and can be a beautiful, quiet adventure. Bergen County winters typically average 20 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit with occasional snow, so filter for RVs with heated holding tanks, a propane furnace, and an enclosed underbelly. Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY stays open year-round with full hookups, perfect for a cozy Catskills snow trip or a base for skiing at Mountain Creek (about 45 minutes away). Pro tip: ask your host about shore-power hookups, antifreeze for the gray tank, and skirting tips before you go. A winter RV camping Waldwick weekend with a stop in Warwick, NY for hot cider is genuinely magical.
