RV camping near Wallington, New Jersey
Wallington sits in Bergen County, roughly ten miles west of Manhattan and inside one of the densest metro areas in North America. RV renters using it as a base have two very different sets of options: urban, hookup-equipped parks close to New York City for sightseeing trips, and state and national park campgrounds an hour or so northwest in the New Jersey Highlands and Hudson Valley for outdoor weekends.
The closest full-service option is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, which caters to travelers using RVs to visit New York City and offers hookups within walking distance of PATH transit. For a woods experience, Camp Wyanokie sits in the Wyanokie Highlands of northern New Jersey, while Beaver Pond Campground inside Harriman State Park and Wawayanda State Park pull renters north into forested lake country.
Floyd Bennett Field, part of Gateway National Recreation Area in Brooklyn, is the closest National Park Service campground and works well for families combining city visits with beach and airfield history.
Things to do near Wallington
Trips based out of Wallington typically split between city sightseeing and Highlands outdoor recreation. From Liberty Harbor RV Park, renters can reach lower Manhattan, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty by ferry or PATH train without moving the rig.
For hiking and paddling, Wawayanda State Park has a swimming beach, kayak rentals on Wawayanda Lake, and a section of the Appalachian Trail crossing the property. Beaver Pond Campground gives direct access to Harriman State Park's trail system and Lake Welch in the lower Hudson Valley.
Camp Wyanokie draws hikers heading up Wyanokie High Point and Carris Hill. Floyd Bennett Field adds cycling on the old runways, fishing at Jamaica Bay, and easy transit into Brooklyn and Queens.

New Jersey state park campgrounds around Wallington run a spring-through-fall season. Wawayanda State Park's campsites are open April 1 to October 31, and other New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry sites follow a similar window. Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park operates on the New York State Parks seasonal calendar, generally opening in spring and closing after leaf-peeping season in late October.
Summer weekends are the busiest stretch. Wawayanda in particular fills quickly because the lake beach and Appalachian Trail access pull day-users and campers at the same time. Fall brings cooler nights, strong foliage color through the Highlands, and easier midweek availability.
Winter options are limited to private, year-round RV parks such as Liberty Harbor, which stays open for city-focused stays. Snow, freeze-thaw cycles, and closed water systems shut down most public campgrounds in the region from November into March.

Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

How to book campgrounds near Wallington
New Jersey state park sites, including Wawayanda State Park, are reserved through the state's online system at camping.nj.gov, which handles individual and group site selection. Group sites at Wawayanda require a minimum of seven people and are set up for tent camping rather than large RVs.
Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park is booked through the New York State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica, and sites can be booked up to nine months in advance. Floyd Bennett Field, as part of Gateway National Recreation Area, is booked through Recreation.gov, and permits are issued by the National Park Service.
Liberty Harbor RV Park is a private operator and takes reservations directly. For summer weekends and holiday periods, booking six to eight weeks ahead is realistic.
What to expect at Wallington-area campgrounds
Facilities vary sharply by property. Liberty Harbor is a paved urban park with hookups and easy transit access, but no woods experience. State park campgrounds in the region skew rustic: at Wawayanda, water is not available at campsites and must be carried from the main office building, and there are no shower facilities. Renters used to full-hookup private parks should plan for dry camping, a potable water fill before arrival, and a plan for gray and black tank disposal.
Beaver Pond limits trailers and RVs to 30 feet, has no electrical hookups, and does not allow pets or alcohol. Road access to Highlands sites involves narrow, winding two-lane roads and some tight campground loops, so larger Class A rigs and long fifth wheels should confirm site dimensions before booking. Bears are active in the region, so food storage rules are enforced.
