Camping near Addison, New York
Addison sits in Steuben County in the southern tier of New York, along the Canisteo River and just off I-86. The village is roughly fifteen miles west of Corning and puts RV travelers within a short drive of the southern Finger Lakes, the Chemung River valley, and the wine country around Keuka and Seneca lakes.
The surrounding area offers a mix of private RV parks and New York State Park campgrounds. Sunflower Acres Family Campground and Camp Bell Campground are among the closest options, with Cardinal Campsite and Ferenbaugh Camping and Recreation Area also within an easy drive. Families traveling with kids often head to Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Finger Lakes for a resort-style stay.
Addison works well as a base for day trips. Watkins Glen State Park, one of the most visited parks in the Finger Lakes system, is under an hour away, and Stony Brook State Park sits to the north near Dansville. The Corning-Painted Post area is the nearest urban hub for groceries, fuel, and dump stations, and the Corning Museum of Glass is a short drive east.
Things to do around Addison
Waterfalls and gorge hiking are the headline attractions in this part of New York. At Watkins Glen State Park, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course, and the gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade. Stony Brook State Park to the north features a wooded gorge, rock formations, and a stream-fed swimming area that operates in the warm months.
Water-based activities cluster around the Finger Lakes to the north. Seneca, Keuka, and Cayuga lakes support fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding, and Catherine Creek near Watkins Glen is known for its spring run of rainbow trout. The Seneca Lake Wine Trail and dozens of tasting rooms sit within an hour to ninety minutes of Addison.
Rainy-day options include the Corning Museum of Glass, the Rockwell Museum in Corning, and the National Soaring Museum in nearby Elmira.

Most private campgrounds in the Addison area follow a standard Northeast season, typically opening in mid-April or May and closing in mid-October. State park campgrounds at Watkins Glen and Stony Brook run a similar season, with peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Gorge trails at Watkins Glen and Stony Brook generally open in late spring once ice, runoff, and safety conditions allow, and specific opening dates can shift with weather.
Summer is peak booking season for both family campgrounds and state parks. It is the best window for swimming, wine tasting, and water sports, while leaf-peepers flock to the Finger Lakes state parks in fall. Fall foliage typically peaks from late September through mid-October and draws heavy weekend traffic to regional parks and wineries.
Winter closes most campgrounds in the area. RV travelers arriving between November and April should confirm availability directly with operators and expect limited services, snow, and freeze risk on hookups.
How to book campgrounds near Addison
New York State Park campsites at Watkins Glen, Stony Brook, and other regional parks are booked through ReserveAmerica. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, and sites become available at the 9-month window at 8 AM Monday through Friday and 9 AM Saturday and Sunday from March 15 through Labor Day. Outside that window, sites release at 9 AM daily. Bookings can also be made by phone through the ReserveAmerica call center at 1-800-456-2267.
Popular sites go fast. Prime spots at Watkins Glen often book within minutes of the reservation window opening, so log in a few minutes before the release time on the day nine months out from the arrival date.
Private campgrounds such as Sunflower Acres Family Campground, Camp Bell Campground, Cardinal Campsite, Ferenbaugh Camping and Recreation Area, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Finger Lakes book directly through their own websites or phone lines. Holiday weekends and fall foliage weekends fill earliest.
What to expect at Addison campgrounds
Sites around Addison range from full-hookup RV pads with 30 and 50 amp service at the private campgrounds to more basic tent and trailer sites at the state parks. State park campgrounds in the region typically offer restrooms and showers, picnic tables, playgrounds, nature trails, and a dump station, with a limited number of electric sites in specific loops.
Rules are consistent across New York State Parks. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and are strictly enforced, and generator use is limited to set morning and evening windows at OPRHP facilities.
Pets are widely accepted with restrictions. Current proof of rabies inoculation is required at check-in, there is a maximum of two pets per site, and pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet.

Every RV rental in Addison booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you drive off. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, RVezy offers tiered plans with different coverage limits, and the plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV. That means you can head up Route 17 toward Watkins Glen knowing the essentials are handled, which is especially reassuring if it's your first time renting an RV.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Addison RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy at the platform level, so you won't see different rules on different listings. Refund outcomes depend on how far out from your trip you cancel, which matters in the Finger Lakes where late-spring storms or early winter weather can shift plans. If life happens before your Addison RV trip, open your booking in the RVezy app to see your refund options clearly laid out, and reach out to RVezy support anytime for help.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Addison, NY?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental in Addison is easy to find. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings that welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Pinnacle State Park, just south of Addison, has leashed-pet-friendly trails winding through wooded acres and meadows, perfect for a morning walk before heading out to wineries. Many Finger Lakes wineries also welcome leashed dogs on outdoor patios. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees or breed notes, and pack a collapsible water bowl since summer humidity in the Southern Tier can climb fast.
parks.ny.gov/parks/pinnacle/details.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Addison?
Yes, RV delivery in Addison is offered by many RVezy hosts, and it's the easiest way to start your trip stress-free. Filter for Delivery on RVezy and you'll find hosts who can drop the RV at Pinnacle State Park, Hickory Hill Family Camping Resort in Bath, or Ferenbaugh Campsites in Corning, then level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. This is a game-changer for a first-time motorhome rental in Addison if you'd rather skip towing or backing into a site. Delivery fees vary by distance, so pick a campground within 25 to 30 miles of the host to keep costs reasonable, and message the host to confirm logistics.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Addison,%20New%20YorkHow far can I drive on an Addison RV rental?
Most Addison-area hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal if you're planning a longer Finger Lakes loop. From Addison, it's about 11 miles to Corning, 40 miles to Watkins Glen, 60 miles to Ithaca, 80 miles to Letchworth State Park, and roughly 165 miles to Niagara Falls, so daily mileage adds up quickly on a wine-country itinerary. The exact mileage allowance and per-mile overage rate is shown on every listing before you book. Estimate your full route first, then filter for unlimited-mileage hosts if you're planning to circle multiple lakes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Addison,%20New%20YorkWhere are the best campgrounds near Addison, NY?
You have great options within a short drive of Addison. Pinnacle State Park (about 4 miles south) offers wooded campsites with electric hookups, a 9-hole golf course, and a pond. Hickory Hill Family Camping Resort in Bath (about 20 minutes north) is a full-service RV park with pool, mini-golf, and 50-amp full hookups. Ferenbaugh Campsites near Corning sits along the Cohocton River with shaded pull-throughs. Sugar Creek Glen Campground in Painted Post is another local favorite for families. For the best campgrounds near Addison in summer, reserve at least 8 to 12 weeks ahead, especially for July weekends and NASCAR race dates at nearby Watkins Glen International.
parks.ny.gov/parks/pinnacle/details.aspxWhen is the best time for an Addison, NY RV trip?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for RV camping in Addison, with peak conditions in June through September. Summer highs run in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit with cool nights in the 50s and 60s, ideal sleeping weather. September and early October bring spectacular Finger Lakes fall foliage and harvest season at wineries. Spring (April to May) is quieter and cheaper but can be rainy and muddy. Winters in Steuben County are cold and snowy with temperatures often in the 20s, so most campgrounds close from mid-October through April. Book Watkins Glen race weekends close to a year ahead for the best selection.
weather.gov/bgm/I've never rented an RV. Will I be okay driving one around Addison?
You'll be fine: first time renting an RV in Addison is one of the friendliest places to start. Roads around the village are flat and lightly trafficked, and I-86/Route 17 is a wide four-lane expressway with gentle grades and easy on and off ramps for reaching Corning and Elmira. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, propane, slide-outs, and dumping tanks, so you won't be guessing. If parking a 30-foot motorhome feels intimidating, choose a Class B campervan or a host who delivers and sets up at your campground. You can also message hosts ahead of time with questions, most love helping first-timers feel confident.
dmv.ny.gov/new-york-state-drivers-manual-practice-testsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tows. From Addison, help can reach you along I-86, Route 15, or the smaller roads winding around Keuka and Seneca Lakes. Your host is also just a message away in the RVezy app and can troubleshoot quirky details like which switch runs the water pump or how to reset the inverter. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number to your phone before you leave the pickup driveway and you'll have layered backup the whole way.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take an Addison RV rental to Canada or other states?
Yes, cross-border and interstate trips are often possible on an RV rental in Addison, you just need to coordinate with your host first. Pennsylvania is only about 20 minutes south on Route 15, so quick hops to Tioga County or the PA Grand Canyon are simple. Niagara Falls and the Canadian border are roughly 3.5 to 4 hours northwest, and many hosts allow Canadian travel with prior approval (bring your passport and confirm insurance coverage in writing). Travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals. Popular RV road trips from Addison include the full Finger Lakes wine loop, the Adirondacks (about 4.5 hours northeast), and Acadia National Park (about 11 hours east).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and fuel costs stay manageable. Class B campervans typically get about 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes around 8 to 12 MPG, and large Class A or fifth-wheel setups closer to 6 to 9 MPG. Gas prices in the Addison and Corning area often run a bit below the New York state average, and prices just over the Pennsylvania border can be lower still, so topping up in Lawrenceville or Mansfield, PA can mean noticeable savings. For a typical 4-night Finger Lakes RV trip from Addison covering around 350 miles in a Class C, budget roughly $130 to $180 in fuel. Diesel is easy to find along I-86 exits between Corning and Bath.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Addison?
Reserve as early as you can. New York State Parks like Pinnacle open reservations 9 months in advance through the official New York State Parks reservation system, and popular summer weekends fill fast. Private parks like Hickory Hill and Ferenbaugh take reservations even earlier and often require deposits. For July 4th, Labor Day, fall foliage weekends in late September and early October, and any Watkins Glen International race weekend, lock in your site 6 to 12 months out. Mid-week stays and shoulder-season trips are far easier to book on short notice. If a state park is full, search nearby Steuben County options like Stony Brook State Park or Mossy Bank Park, quieter gems with fewer crowds.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Addison?
Driving is refreshingly easy in this part of New York. Addison sits right off I-86 (the Southern Tier Expressway), a wide, well-maintained four-lane highway with low traffic compared to anywhere downstate. The terrain is rolling hills and river valleys, not steep mountains, so even a 30-foot Class C handles it comfortably. Watch for occasional deer at dawn and dusk, especially on Route 417 and back roads near Pinnacle State Park. In winter, lake-effect snow squalls can move in quickly off the Great Lakes and Finger Lakes, so most renters stick to the May through October window. Cell coverage is solid along I-86 but can dip in deeper valleys around Keuka Lake, so download offline maps before you head out.
511ny.org/What amenities do campgrounds near Addison offer, and where can I dump or fill water?
You'll be well-supported. Most private campgrounds around Addison, including Hickory Hill in Bath and Ferenbaugh near Corning, offer full hookups (30 and 50-amp electric, water, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, camp stores, and on-site dump stations. Pinnacle State Park provides electric hookups and a centralized dump station plus potable water fill, but no individual sewer at sites. If you're boondocking or staying at a hookup-free spot, dump stations are available at private campgrounds like Bath KOA for a small fee. Top off fresh water before leaving the host's driveway, you'll appreciate the head start when you arrive at camp.
parks.ny.gov/parks/pinnacle/details.aspxWhat equipment and amenities come with an Addison RV rental?
You'll find your rig well-equipped for Finger Lakes adventures. Most RVs on RVezy in the Addison area come with a fully stocked kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave, cookware, plates), private bathroom with shower and toilet, comfortable sleeping for 4 to 8, climate control with both furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Many include flat-screen TVs, outdoor speakers, awnings, and onboard generators for boondocking. Wi-Fi hotspots are sometimes offered as add-ons, and you'll get reliable cell-based internet on most major carriers along I-86. Check each listing's amenity list before booking, hosts often throw in extras like camp chairs, lanterns, or a Blackstone griddle for outdoor cooking under the Finger Lakes stars.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Addison,%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup details should I know about?
Customizing your trip is part of the fun. Many Addison hosts offer popular add-ons like bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, generators or extra propane, bike racks, kayaks, outdoor grills, and pet packages. Some hosts include these free, others charge per item, and the listing shows everything upfront before you book. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Addison, with a walkthrough included so you know how every system works. Standard pickup is mid-afternoon and return is mid-morning, giving the host time to clean and restock between guests. Ask about delivery to Pinnacle State Park or Watkins Glen, it often costs less than you'd expect and turns travel day into vacation day.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Addison,%20New%20YorkHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It's straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in Addison, you pay through RVezy's platform, no cash, no checks, no awkward handoffs with the host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before the trip starts, with the amount shown on the listing and varying by RV. As long as the rig comes back in the same shape you picked it up, the hold is released after the trip. To avoid any issues, take time-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at both pickup and return, follow the host's mileage and pet rules, and return with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement.
