Campgrounds and RV parks near Akwesasne, NY

Akwesasne sits along the St. Lawrence River in the far north of New York, straddling the international border with Ontario and Quebec. The territory borders the town of Massena, and most nearby campgrounds cluster along the river or in the surrounding St. Lawrence County countryside. RV travelers use the area as a base for river-based recreation, day trips to Cornwall, Ontario, and access to the New York State Seaway Trail. Campground options run from full-service private parks to state and DEC-managed sites. Massena International Kampground and Cameron's Point Family Campground handle larger rigs with hookups, while North Barnhart at Robert Moses State Park sits on the St. Lawrence River, partly on the mainland and partly on Barnhart Island. Walter Pratt Memorial Park is a primitive DEC site inside Brasher State Forest, and Jelly Beans Riverside Campground rounds out the private options. Most sites are within a short drive of Akwesasne, groceries in Massena, and border crossings into Canada.

State park sites at Robert Moses, including the North Barnhart loop, are booked through ReserveAmerica on the New York State Parks system. Reservations for all sites can be made up to 9 months in advance, and popular summer weekends should be secured as soon as the window opens. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on day of arrival for campsites, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. DEC-managed Walter Pratt Memorial Park operates as a primitive drive-in area with no online reservation system. Camping for more than three nights or in groups of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger. Private campgrounds, including Massena International Kampground, Cameron's Point Family Campground, and Jelly Beans Riverside Campground, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Confirm rig length limits and hookup type when booking.
