Camping near Bath, New York
Bath sits in Steuben County in New York's Southern Finger Lakes, roughly ten miles south of Keuka Lake and about a half-hour drive from Corning. The town works well as an RV base because Interstate 86 runs through it, connecting east to Corning and Elmira and west toward Alfred and Olean, while Route 54 climbs north along Keuka Lake toward Hammondsport and Penn Yan.
Most travelers split time between two zones: the lake and wine trail to the north, and the gorge parks and glass museums to the east. The nearest full-service RV resort is the Hammondsport / Bath KOA Resort just outside town, with additional options at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Finger Lakes, Campers Haven, Cardinal Campsite, and Lake Demmon Recreation Area for a quieter, small-lake stay.
The closest state park campground is Watkins Glen State Park to the east, part of the New York State Parks system, which handles bookings through its central reservation service on ReserveAmerica.
Things to do around Bath
Keuka Lake is the main draw for families, with public beaches, boat rentals, and swimming available in Hammondsport, along with tasting rooms on the Keuka Lake Wine Trail, including well-known producers such as Dr. Konstantin Frank and Heron Hill. Steuben Brewing Company sits on the same ridge for non-wine drinkers.
In Hammondsport, the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum houses vintage bikes, motorcycles, planes, and other artifacts honoring the aviation pioneer. About 25 minutes east, Corning offers the Corning Museum of Glass and the Rockwell Museum.
For hikes and swimming holes, Watkins Glen State Park's gorge stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course, and Stony Brook State Park near Dansville has its own gorge trail and stream-fed pools.

The camping season in this part of New York is short. Private parks near Bath typically open in mid to late April and close in mid to late October; Lake Demmon Recreation Area operates roughly mid-April through mid-October. State park campgrounds run on a similar window: Watkins Glen State Park opens in mid-May and closes in early to mid-October, and Taughannock Falls campground runs from mid-April through mid-October.
July and August are peak season. Weekends fill early because the same sites serve NASCAR race weekends at Watkins Glen International, Finger Lakes wine-tour traffic, and Corning Museum of Glass visitors. Book several weeks out for holiday weekends.
Late September and early October bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and fall color across the hills above Keuka Lake. From November through March, most private campgrounds and all state park campgrounds in the region are closed, and lake-effect snow can be heavy north and west of Bath.

How to book a campsite
Private parks near Bath, including Hammondsport / Bath KOA Resort, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Finger Lakes, Campers Haven, and Cardinal Campsite, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. KOA and Jellystone sites also list availability through their national brand booking systems. Full-hookup pull-throughs at these parks book earliest for July, August, and race weekends.
For state park camping at Watkins Glen, Stony Brook, or Keuka Lake State Park, use the New York State reservation system on ReserveAmerica, or call 1-800-456-CAMP. Reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, and same-day bookings are accepted online until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival.
What to expect on-site
Expect a mix of full-hookup RV resorts and more rustic state and county sites. Hammondsport / Bath KOA Resort offers 30 and 50-amp service, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi, with pool access, a jumping pillow, and a dog park, and it accepts leashed pets. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Finger Lakes is oriented to families with kids' activities and themed weekends.
Smaller sites are simpler. Lake Demmon Recreation Area accommodates RVs with 30-amp service, cable and Wi-Fi, and each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring, with canoe, rowboat, and paddleboat rentals on a 48-acre lake.
State park campgrounds tend to be back-in sites with electric only, shared bathhouses, and dump stations rather than full hookups. Quiet hours at Watkins Glen run 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. and are strictly enforced.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Bath, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Bath, NY?
RV rental in Bath, NY is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Finger Lakes, with most travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $175 to $275 per night. Because Bath sits at the crossroads of I-86 and Route 15, you'll find a wide mix of rigs from local hosts at lower prices than you'd see in Syracuse or Rochester. To score a cheap RV rental in Bath, NY, aim for midweek pickups, book outside the July to August peak, and use RVezy's price filter. Pro tip: many hosts knock down their nightly rate for stays of five nights or more, perfect for a slow wine-trail week on Keuka and Seneca Lakes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bath%2C%20New%20YorkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Bath?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bath for nearly every rig on RVezy. New York State only requires a Recreational Vehicle (R) endorsement on your Class D license if your motorhome's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) exceeds 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels listed in the Bath area fall well under that limit. You'll need to be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your ID right in the app. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set to roll into the Finger Lakes.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/new-york-state-learner-permit-and-driver-license-class-descriptionsWhat protection comes with my Bath RV rental?
Every RV rental in Bath, NY booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can cross the I-86 corridor or wind through the hills around Keuka Lake with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host, so you can pick what fits your comfort zone and budget. Pro tip: pick a higher tier if it's your first time renting an RV, then relax and focus on the waterfalls instead of the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change after I book?
Booking an RV in Bath is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy, and there's a money-back grace period built into every reservation so you have time to firm up your trip details. If life throws a curveball, like a Finger Lakes snowstorm in shoulder season or a sudden work conflict, the cancellation terms are spelled out clearly in your booking confirmation and the RVezy Help Center. RVezy also factors in things like natural disasters when reviewing cancellations. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for Watkins Glen race weekends, then relax knowing you have flexibility if your plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Bath RV trip?
Absolutely, the Finger Lakes are a dream for dog lovers and pet-friendly RV rental in Bath, NY is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see plenty of motorhomes and travel trailers from hosts who welcome four-legged co-pilots. Once you're here, your pup can stretch their legs at Mossy Bank Park right above downtown Bath, splash along Keuka Lake's shoreline in Hammondsport, or join you on the rim trails at Watkins Glen State Park (note: pets aren't allowed on the Gorge Trail itself). Pro tip: bring your dog's rabies certificate, as New York state campgrounds require proof at check-in.
parks.ny.gov/2614/Can the RV be delivered to my campground?
Yes, RV delivery in Bath is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to popular spots like Jellystone Park Finger Lakes, Hickory Hill Family Camping Resort, or Camp Bell Campground, set it up on your site, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter for Delivery on RVezy to see which Bath hosts offer it and their delivery range. Pro tip: ask about delivery to Watkins Glen State Park or Stony Brook State Park so you can skip the driving entirely and just enjoy the gorges.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bath%2C%20New%20YorkHow far can I drive on a Bath RV trip?
You can cover a lot of ground on an RV road trip from Bath because you're perfectly centered in the Finger Lakes. Niagara Falls is about 2 hours 15 minutes west via I-86 and I-90, the Adirondacks are roughly 4 hours northeast, and Cooperstown's Baseball Hall of Fame is about 3 hours east. Watkins Glen State Park is just 35 minutes away, and the Corning Museum of Glass is a quick 20 minutes south. Each host sets their own mileage policy, and some Bath hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is gold for big loop trips. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm mileage and plan your route.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Finger Lakes is a family favorite with a heated pool, splash pad, and full-hookup pull-thru sites just minutes from town. Hickory Hill Family Camping Resort offers premium sites and a dog park. Camp Bell Campground in nearby Campbell has shaded wooded sites. For a state-park experience, Stony Brook State Park in Dansville is stunning, and Watkins Glen State Park's campground sits beside the famous gorge with 19 waterfalls. parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/watkins-glen-state-parkWhen is the best time to visit Bath in an RV?
The sweet spot for a Bath RV trip is late May through mid-October, when daytime highs climb from the mid-60s into the upper 70s and the Finger Lakes are in full swing. July is the warmest month with average highs around 78°F, perfect for swimming in Keuka Lake. September and early October are the local insider's secret: the wine harvest is happening, crowds thin out after Labor Day, and the hardwood hillsides explode into red, orange, and gold. Winters are snowy and cold (averages drop into the teens in January), so most campgrounds close by mid-October. Pro tip: book a fall foliage week for the most magical, least crowded Finger Lakes experience.
weather.gov/bgm/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work?
You're in great company. A huge share of first-time renters start in places exactly like Bath, where roads are quiet, distances are short, and hosts are used to walking newcomers through everything. When you arrive (or when your host delivers), they'll do a full orientation: how to extend the slides, run the awning, dump the tanks, hook up shore power, and operate the propane and generator. You can message the host with questions before booking right from the listing page. RVezy customer support and 24/7 roadside assistance are with you the whole trip. Pro tip: pick a travel trailer or Class C under 27 feet for your first Finger Lakes trip, they're easy to maneuver on Route 54 along Keuka Lake.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Bath includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on I-86, run into battery trouble at a Hammondsport vineyard, or need a tow off a back road in the Bristol Hills, help is one phone call away. Your host is also typically reachable by message or phone for quick questions about the rig itself, and RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the driveway, and you'll cruise the Finger Lakes with total confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Bath rental on a cross-border road trip to Canada?
You can absolutely plan an epic RV road trip from Bath, NY north into Ontario, Niagara Falls is only about 2 hours away and the Canadian border crossing at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo is a straight shot west on I-86 and I-90. Cross-border travel is allowed on many RVezy rentals, but it depends on the host's policy and insurance coverage, so message them directly from the listing page to confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: bring your passport or Enhanced Driver's License, and ask the host for the vehicle registration and a letter of permission to make the border crossing smoother.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel?
Fuel is one of the biggest variables in any Finger Lakes RV trip, so plan ahead and you'll stay on budget. Most Class C motorhomes around Bath get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), Class B campervans average 16 to 20 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer typically lands around 10 to 14 mpg. Gas prices in Steuben County tend to run a bit below the New York state average, and there are convenient fuel stops right off Exit 38 of I-86 in Bath. Pro tip: fill up in Bath or Painted Post before heading into the Bristol Hills or down to Watkins Glen, where prices climb in the tourist villages.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground?
For peak summer weekends in the Finger Lakes, book your campsite as soon as you book your RV. New York State Parks like Watkins Glen, Stony Brook, and Hammondsport-adjacent Keuka Lake State Park open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and the prime sites for July, August, and fall foliage weekends fill within hours of release. Private parks like Jellystone Finger Lakes and Hickory Hill take direct online bookings and often sell out 3 to 6 months ahead for summer. For midweek shoulder-season trips you can usually book just a week or two out. Pro tip: same-day reservations at NY state parks are available until 3 p.m. if you want a spontaneous overnight.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/watkins-glen-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NY&parkId=254What are the driving conditions like around Bath?
Driving an RV around Bath is refreshingly stress-free compared to most of the Northeast. I-86 (the Southern Tier Expressway) runs right through town with wide lanes and gentle grades, and Route 415 and Route 54 are scenic two-lane roads with manageable curves through the Bristol Hills toward Keuka Lake. The biggest things to watch for are sudden afternoon thunderstorms in summer, deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads, and steep grades on a few wine-country backroads near Hammondsport. Winter brings real lake-effect snow from November through March. Pro tip: stick to numbered state routes and the interstate for your first day, then branch out to the lake roads once you're comfortable with the rig.
511ny.org/What amenities should I expect at Bath-area campgrounds?
Campgrounds near Bath are well-equipped for RV camping. Most private parks like Jellystone Finger Lakes and Hickory Hill offer 30 and 50-amp electric, water, sewer, cable TV, and free Wi-Fi at the site, plus pools, playgrounds, and laundry. New York State Parks like Watkins Glen have hot showers, flush restrooms, and dump stations, with electric hookups only in select loops (Mohawk and Cayuga Villages at Watkins Glen). Potable water fill stations are scattered throughout. Pro tip: if you're at a state park without full hookups, plan to dump and refill water at the on-site dump station before checkout, or use the Pilot Travel Center off I-86 Exit 38 in Bath for a quick top-up on your way home.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/watkins-glen-state-parkWhat's actually inside the RV?
Most motorhome rentals in Bath come fully equipped so you can pull up to your campsite and start enjoying the Finger Lakes. Expect a real bed (queen in most Class C and travel trailer rentals), a kitchen with a fridge, stovetop, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette seating that converts to extra sleeping space, air conditioning, and a furnace for cool Finger Lakes nights. Many rigs include a TV, and some hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, or a generator for off-grid stays. Seatbelts are provided for all designated passenger seats. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list and message the host to confirm linens, towels, and kitchen kits, many include them free.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bath%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options are common in Bath?
Bath hosts offer some of the most useful add-ons in the Finger Lakes: outdoor grills and patio mats, bike racks, kayak or paddleboard carriers (perfect for Keuka Lake), generators for boondocking, propane fire pits, and linen or kitchen kits. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or around Bath, Corning, or Hammondsport, and many offer delivery for an added per-mile fee. Each host sets their own mileage policy, some include a set number of miles per night while others offer unlimited mileage for nearby trips. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book on RVezy to lock in your dates immediately, then add the extras during checkout.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bath%2C%20New%20YorkHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment for your RV rental in Bath is handled entirely through RVezy, no cash or e-transfers with the host, which keeps everything secure and documented. You'll pay the rental total when you book, and a refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup. Assuming you return the RV in the same condition, with full tanks if requested, and within the mileage limit, the deposit is released back to you after the trip. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off, both you and the host will appreciate the clear record and it makes deposit returns smooth and fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWill my Bath RV handle the cold if I go in shoulder season?
Yes, and shoulder-season trips around Bath are spectacular if you pack smart. Many RVs listed by Finger Lakes hosts are built for the local climate with enclosed and heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and good insulation, perfect for crisp September wine-tour weekends or May fishing trips on Catherine Creek when nights can dip into the 30s and 40s. If you're booking outside June to August, message the host to confirm the furnace works, ask about heated tanks, and choose a campground with shore power so you can run the heat all night without draining the battery. Pro tip: bring an extra propane tank, a small space heater for shore-power sites, and warm bedding, the Finger Lakes reward shoulder-season travelers with peak foliage and empty trails.
