Campgrounds near Bolivar, New York
Bolivar sits in Allegany County in New York's Southern Tier, close to the Pennsylvania border and within the region marketed as the Western NY Wilds. The village is a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Genesee River valley, the rolling Allegheny foothills, and the larger public lands to the west and south. Small private campgrounds cluster along the river corridors and back roads, while the region's flagship public land, 65,000-acre Allegany State Park, is the largest state park in New York and sits roughly an hour to the west.
RV travelers typically choose between full-hookup private parks near the Genesee River and more rustic state-park sites in Allegany. Nearby options include Riverside Park Campground, Riverhurst Park Campground, and Lake Lane Campground closer to Olean, along with Trout Run Camp Resort near Wellsville and Misty Mountains Park up in Cuba. Trout Run Camp Resort is a 100-acre park with 160 full hook-up sites offering 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, and free Wi-Fi, making it a common pick for larger rigs staying in the Bolivar area.
Things to do near Bolivar
The Genesee River runs through the area and is the region's main draw for on-water recreation. Trout Run Camp Resort sits on 1,200 feet of river frontage, and guests can rent tubes or kayaks or take a guided fishing trip on the Genesee.
Day trips west lead into Allegany State Park, where the terrain opens up for hiking, cycling, and swimming. Both the Red House and Quaker areas offer sand beaches, picnic areas, museums, hiking trails, and naturalist walks. Walkers, runners, and bicycle riders can use the five miles of paved trails around Red House, and the Art Roscoe Ski Touring Area has groomed cross-country skiing and mountain-bike trails.
Families also visit Cuba Lake, Rushford Lake, and the small historic villages nearby for shops, ice cream, and local food.

The main camping season in this part of western New York runs from late spring through mid-fall. Most campgrounds operate from around May through October, though some cottages and winterized cabins at Allegany State Park remain available year-round, giving the area a rare winter camping option. Private RV parks generally follow a similar April-to-October window, with individual operating dates set by each park.
Summer is peak season for families, with warm days, active river tubing, and full event calendars at private parks. Peak Season at Allegany State Park runs from the end of June to the end of August, during which time cabins and cottages require a 7 or 14-night minimum stay, so RV sites tend to book earliest for those weeks.
Fall is popular for foliage, with cool nights and quieter campgrounds. Winter draws a smaller crowd interested in snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing, particularly in the Art Roscoe Ski Touring Area, but most private RV parks close and water systems are shut off.
How to book
Public and private campgrounds in the Bolivar area use different reservation systems, so it helps to know which one applies before planning dates. Campsites at Allegany State Park are reserved through the New York State Parks online reservation system or over the phone, and reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance. During the March 15 through Labor Day period, sites open at the 9-month window at 8 a.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. on weekends; the rest of the year they open at 9 a.m. daily.
Private parks such as Trout Run Camp Resort, Riverside Park Campground, Riverhurst Park Campground, Lake Lane Campground, and Misty Mountains Park take reservations directly through their own websites or third-party booking platforms. For summer weekends and holidays, book several months out; midweek stays in spring and fall are usually easier to secure.
What to expect
Expect a rural, wooded setting with hilly two-lane roads, limited cell coverage in valleys, and small towns for groceries and fuel. Private RV parks in the area typically offer 30/50-amp service, water, sewer, showers, and Wi-Fi, while state-park sites tend to be more basic and wooded.
Wildlife is part of the experience. Campers at Allegany State Park are advised that they are in bear country and should not leave food, garbage, coolers, or other containers unattended, as they can attract bears. New York rules also restrict moving firewood into parks to prevent invasive pests, so plan to buy wood locally.
Weather can shift quickly in the Allegheny foothills. Pack layers even in summer, expect cool nights in spring and fall, and be ready for afternoon thunderstorms. Family-friendly amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and river access are common at the larger private resorts.

parks.ny.gov/parks/allegany/details.aspxWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Bolivar, NY?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for RV camping in Bolivar, with summer highs in the 75 to 82°F range and crisp, comfortable nights perfect for campfires. June and early July offer lush green hills and fewer bugs after blackfly season ends. September is a local favorite: warm days, cool nights in the 40s, and the Southern Tier's spectacular fall foliage peaking in late September through mid-October. Tip: save the roadside assistance number from your booking confirmation to your phone before you leave, cell service can dip in the hills near the Pennsylvania border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Bolivar RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes. An RV road trip from Bolivar across state lines is common, Pennsylvania is just a few miles south, and many travelers head to Ohio, Vermont, or the Adirondacks. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Bolivar?

Gas prices in Allegany County typically run a bit cheaper than the New York State average, often $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon, and you can save more by filling up across the border in Pennsylvania where taxes are lower. A typical 300-mile weekend loop from Bolivar to Allegany State Park and back runs roughly $80 to $120 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: download GasBuddy before you leave to spot the cheapest stations along Route 17.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bolivar?
For summer weekends, book as early as possible, New York State Parks open reservations 9 months ahead through ReserveAmerica, and Allegany State Park's Red House and Quaker loops fill within days for July and August. Private parks like Pine Acres in Bolivar and Triple R in Franklinville usually open 6 to 12 months ahead. Midweek and shoulder-season trips (May, June, September) are much easier and you can often find sites just a week or two out. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, target Sunday-through-Thursday stays at Allegany State Park, you'll get pick of the best wooded sites and pay less per night.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What are the roads like for driving an RV around Bolivar?
Driving an RV near Bolivar is genuinely relaxing, this is rural Southern Tier country with light traffic, well-maintained two-lane highways like Route 417 and Route 19, and short distances between towns. Expect rolling hills and some grades around Allegany State Park, so take it steady on descents and use lower gears. Winter (November to March) brings serious lake-effect snow and ice, so most renters stick to May through October. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, they're common across Allegany County. Pro tip: if you're nervous, opt for an RV delivery in Bolivar so a host can drop the rig at your campsite and skip the highway driving altogether.
dot.ny.gov/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Bolivar?
Most campgrounds near Bolivar offer solid amenities for a comfortable stay. Allegany State Park has electric sites (20/30/50 amp on many loops), potable water fill stations, and dump stations at Red House and Quaker, though full hookups are limited. Pine Acres Family Camping Resort in Bolivar offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer) plus Wi-Fi at many sites. Cuba Lake area parks often include lakefront sites with electric and water. You'll be impressed by how turnkey RV rentals on RVezy are. A typical motorhome rental in Bolivar comes with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, real beds (most sleep 4 to 8), heating and air conditioning, a dinette that converts to extra sleeping space, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts include a generator, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and basic kitchen kits. Wi-Fi and TVs are common in newer rigs, though cell coverage gets spotty in the hills near Allegany State Park. iloveny.com/places-to-go/chautauqua-allegheny/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy at booking, not directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after drop-off, assuming the RV is returned in good condition. Choosing a higher renter protection plan at checkout can lower your out-of-pocket exposure if anything happens. Tip: do a thorough walkaround video with your host at pickup and drop-off in Bolivar, timestamped video is the easiest way to avoid deposit disputes and keep your refund moving quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I find a cheap RV rental in Bolivar for a quick weekend getaway?
Yes, a cheap RV rental in Bolivar is very doable if you stay flexible. Smaller travel trailers and pop-ups often start around $75 to $110 per night, and older Class C motorhomes can be found in the $130 to $180 range. Booking Sunday through Thursday, traveling in May or September, and choosing a host close to Bolivar to minimize delivery fees all cut costs. A two-night weekend with site fees at Allegany State Park can come in under $400 total for a family of four. Tip: sort by price low-to-high and filter for Instant Book, you will often spot last-minute deals from hosts wanting to fill open dates.
