Campgrounds near Cedarhurst, New York
Cedarhurst sits on the South Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, minutes from JFK Airport and Jamaica Bay. There are no campgrounds inside the village itself, so RV travelers typically base at parks within a short drive west into Brooklyn, north into Rockland County, or east along Long Island's Great South Bay.
The closest option is Floyd Bennett Field in Gateway National Recreation Area, which offers tent and RV camping across the bridge in Brooklyn on Jamaica Bay. West of the Hudson, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City serves as an RV basecamp for visiting New York City without driving into Manhattan.
For a more traditional state park experience, Heckscher State Park sits on the Great South Bay in Suffolk County and accommodates both tent campers and RVs. Further afield, Allaire State Park in central New Jersey and Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park round out the practical options for travelers exploring the metro region from an RV.
Things to do near Cedarhurst
Basing at Floyd Bennett Field puts campers near Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, which hosts roughly 300 species of migratory birds, plus wooded paths, biking, kayaking, and an outdoor archery range accessible with a camping reservation. History buffs can tour restored aircraft hangars and nearby Civil War era forts within Gateway National Recreation Area.
Heckscher State Park adds bay swimming, boat launches, kayaking, canoeing, sailboarding, and roughly four miles of paved multi-use trails through the park. At Allaire State Park, families can ride the Pine Creek Railroad and tour the historic 19th century iron making village of Allaire. Beaver Pond Campground sits next to Lake Welch inside Harriman State Park, with a lifeguarded beach, hiking, and easy access to Bear Mountain.

Camping seasons in the region vary by park. The campground at Floyd Bennett Field is open April through October and offers both tent and RV camping. Heckscher State Park campgrounds reopen from late May through early September, with reservations handled through ReserveAmerica. Beaver Pond at Harriman generally operates from mid spring through mid fall. Allaire State Park's family campground is normally open year round, though its RV dump station operates only mid April to mid October, and the family sites have been affected by ongoing bathhouse construction, so travelers should confirm status with New Jersey State Parks before booking. Liberty Harbor RV Park operates year round.
Summer draws the biggest crowds and delivers the most reliable weather for swimming and paddling, but sites fill weeks in advance on weekends. Late spring and September offer cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier availability. Atlantic hurricane season peaks August through September, so RV travelers should watch tropical forecasts for coastal flooding on Jamaica Bay and the Great South Bay.

Jerry was very flexible with picking up and dropping off. Very nice guy. We traveled from Long Beach to Nashville me my wife and my two kids in the Solis and we had the most comfortable drive. Very friendly user vehicle and Jerry was very good at explaining how everything works. We had a great time and the unlimited mileage was a huge benefit. The RV fits where a minivan fits and the all around visibility from the cockpit is amazing. Not to mention that all safety features are also a huge plus with brake assistance and blind spots with folding mirrors. Highly recommended.

How to book campsites near Cedarhurst
Reservation systems differ by agency. Floyd Bennett Field bookings are made through Recreation.gov, with the window opening up to six months in advance. New York State Parks, including Heckscher and Beaver Pond, use ReserveAmerica, with campsite reservations available up to nine months ahead and same day bookings allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival.
Allaire State Park uses New Jersey's state reservation portal at njportal.com, and reservations can be made up to eleven months in advance. Sites and shelters fill quickly for summer and holiday weekends, so book as early as possible. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly through its own website or by phone. For any summer weekend in the metro area, plan to book as soon as the window opens.
What to expect at campgrounds near Cedarhurst
Expect a mix of urban and traditional campgrounds within driving range of Cedarhurst. Floyd Bennett Field is rustic and unusual: RV sites have no water or electric hookups, though a dump station is available and generators are permitted during limited hours. Restrooms and showers are located near the camp store. Liberty Harbor is essentially a paved lot in Jersey City with full hookups and skyline views, best for travelers using the PATH train into Manhattan.
State park campgrounds trend rustic. Beaver Pond offers sites for up to two tents and six people each, with select sites accommodating trailers or RVs up to 30 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, the campground has showers, laundry, and a dump station, and there are no electrical hookups. Pets are not permitted at Beaver Pond, Lake Welch, or Heckscher campsites, a common restriction to check before booking.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Cedarhurst, NY
How much does an RV rental in Cedarhurst, NY typically cost?
RV rental in Cedarhurst, NY is more affordable than you might expect for the New York metro area, with most travelers finding great value compared to hotel stays in Nassau County. Travel trailers often start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run roughly $150 to $250, and larger Class C motorhomes typically range from $200 to $375 per night. Add-ons like generators, kitchen kits, and delivery are priced separately by the host. For a cheap RV rental Cedarhurst families love, book mid-week stays in May or September when summer Hamptons demand cools off. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book on RVezy to lock in lower rates fast before peak Long Island beach season fills up.
discoverlongisland.com/where-to-stay/campgrounds-rv-parks/What license do I need to rent an RV in Cedarhurst, NY?
Good news: a standard New York Class D driver's license (or the equivalent from your home state or country) is all you need to rent an RV in Cedarhurst for nearly every rig on RVezy. New York only requires a special Recreational Vehicle (R) endorsement for motorhomes over 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and almost every campervan, travel trailer, and Class C on the platform falls well below that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set for your Cedarhurst RV trip.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/new-york-state-learner-permit-and-driver-license-class-descriptionsIs protection included when I rent an RV in Cedarhurst?
Yes, every RV rental in Cedarhurst booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull onto the Belt Parkway with confidence. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. That means you decide how much peace of mind you want before you ever pick up the keys. For first time renting an RV travelers heading from Cedarhurst out to Montauk or the Catskills, this takes a big worry off your plate. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers side by side at checkout so you understand your deductible before departure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Cedarhurst RV booking?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy that applies to every reservation. There is a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, and additional refund tiers apply depending on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides credits so your plans stay on track. You will not see different policies on different listings because cancellation is handled platform-wide. Pro tip: book early to secure your dates for a Cedarhurst RV trip during peak summer, knowing the grace period gives you breathing room to confirm plans with the family.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Cedarhurst RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Cedarhurst options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you will see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) onboard, often for a small cleaning fee disclosed upfront. Long Island is a fantastic destination with your pup: Sunken Meadow State Park has dog-friendly trails about an hour north, and many East End trails and parks welcome leashed dogs year-round. Heading east? Several Hamptons beaches permit dogs before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. in summer. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm your specific breed and pet count are good to go.
parks.ny.gov/regulations/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite or home in Cedarhurst?
Yes, RV delivery Cedarhurst is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially since the Five Towns area has tight residential streets that can feel intimidating for a first-time motorhome driver. Many hosts will drive the RV directly to your driveway, a Nassau County campground, or even out to a campsite in the Hamptons or Hither Hills State Park. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage and set by the host. They'll also handle the level-up, hookup, and a full orientation walkthrough so you're not figuring out propane or slide-outs alone. Pro tip: use the Delivery filter on RVezy and message two or three hosts to compare delivery quotes for your exact destination.
nassaucountyny.gov/1622/Parks-Recreation-MuseumsHow does mileage work, and how far can I realistically drive from Cedarhurst?
Mileage policies are set by each host, and many Cedarhurst listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles available at a per-mile rate. Some hosts even offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage package, which is ideal for longer trips. From Cedarhurst, you can reach Montauk Point in about 2.5 hours (110 miles east on the LIE), Hither Hills State Park in roughly 2 hours and 15 minutes, the Catskills in about 2.5 hours northwest, and Cape Cod in around 5 hours via I-95. Pro tip: estimate your total round-trip mileage before booking and ask the host to bundle extra miles upfront, which is usually cheaper than paying the overage rate later.
dot.ny.gov/indexWhere are the best campgrounds near Cedarhurst, NY?
You've got excellent options within easy driving distance of Cedarhurst. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage (about 25 minutes north) is a quiet Nassau County park with electric and water hookups, perfect for first-timers. Wildwood State Park in Wading River offers wooded sites and Long Island Sound beach access about 90 minutes east. Hither Hills State Park in Montauk has 165 oceanfront sites and is a Long Island bucket-list stay. Indian Island County Park in Riverhead sits on the Peconic estuary with year-round camping. Cedar Point County Park in East Hampton rounds out the list with shaded wooded sites. Pro tip: state park sites release on ReserveAmerica nine months ahead and Hither Hills books out within minutes for July weekends.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time of year for a Cedarhurst RV trip?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping Cedarhurst travelers love, with summer highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s and Atlantic Ocean temperatures warm enough for swimming from late June through September. May and September are the smart-money shoulder seasons: daytime temps in the 65 to 75 range, lighter Hamptons traffic on the LIE, and lower nightly rates. Fall foliage peaks in mid-to-late October in the nearby Hudson Valley. Winter rentals are limited because most Long Island campgrounds close after Veterans Day, though Indian Island County Park stays open year-round for self-contained rigs. Pro tip: book July and August rentals at least three months in advance because summer demand on Long Island is intense.
weather.gov/okx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting out in Cedarhurst?
You'll do great, and you're not alone. The majority of first time renting an RV guests on RVezy have never driven anything bigger than an SUV. Every host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, and the dump valves, and they're a text away during your trip if anything comes up. For Cedarhurst specifically, ask your host to deliver the RV to your campground if you're nervous about the Belt Parkway or Cross Island Parkway (note: parkways prohibit RVs over certain heights). Stick to the Southern State Parkway and the LIE for taller rigs. Pro tip: pick a campervan or small Class C for your first trip, they drive much like a large van.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/CommVehGuide.pdfWhat if I break down or have an issue during my trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are on the Long Island Expressway, parked at Smith Point County Park, or making your way up to the Catskills. Roadside coverage handles common headaches like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified repair shop. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip if you need to coordinate with the host or sort out anything unexpected. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Cedarhurst, and snap a photo of the RV license plate and VIN at pickup so you have it ready if you ever need to make a call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Cedarhurst RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, which makes a road trip from Cedarhurst incredibly flexible. Popular routes include heading north to the White Mountains in New Hampshire (about 6 hours), south through New Jersey to Assateague Island in Maryland (around 5 hours), or northeast into Acadia National Park in Maine (roughly 8 hours). Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and their insurance, so message the listing owner before booking if Montreal or Niagara Falls Ontario is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: confirm border plans in writing with your host so customs paperwork is sorted in advance.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV road trip from Cedarhurst?
Fuel is one of your biggest variables, but easy to estimate. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. New York State gas prices in the NYC metro area tend to run 30 to 50 cents above the national average, so check stations along the Sunrise Highway and LIE before you fill up. For a 4-day trip from Cedarhurst out to Montauk and back (roughly 220 miles), budget around $90 to $150 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Suffolk County or just over the Nassau line, prices drop noticeably east of Exit 70 on the LIE.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campsite near Cedarhurst?
Long Island campgrounds book up faster than almost anywhere else in the Northeast, so reserve early. New York State Parks (including Hither Hills, Wildwood, and Heckscher) release sites nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime summer weekends often sell out within minutes of the booking window opening. Suffolk County Parks (like Cedar Point and Indian Island) use the county reservation system and open bookings several months ahead. Private campgrounds like Eastern Long Island Kampground in Greenport accept reservations year-round. Pro tip: if you are locked out of Hither Hills for August, look at Cedar Point County Park in East Hampton or Indian Island in Riverhead, both offer great access to the East End with more availability.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around Cedarhurst?
Cedarhurst sits in southwestern Nassau County, right next to JFK Airport, so traffic on the Belt Parkway and Southern State Parkway peaks during weekday rush hours (7 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.) and Friday afternoons heading east toward the Hamptons. Important: New York parkways (Belt, Southern State, Northern State, Cross Island) prohibit commercial vehicles and have low bridge clearances, some as low as 7 feet 7 inches. Take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) or Sunrise Highway (NY-27) instead for any RV taller than 9 feet. Summer storms can roll through quickly, especially August. Pro tip: leave Cedarhurst by 6 a.m. on summer Fridays to beat the bumper-to-bumper crawl out east.
511ny.org/What amenities do campgrounds near Cedarhurst typically offer?
Most campgrounds within reach of Cedarhurst are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Hither Hills State Park offers water and electric hookups, hot showers, a camp store, and oceanfront sites. Wildwood State Park has electric hookups, restrooms with showers, and a dump station. Indian Island County Park provides water and electric, dump station, and shower facilities. Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage has electric hookups and a clean comfort station. For where to park an RV in Cedarhurst between trips, public dump stations are available at Heckscher State Park in East Islip and Hither Hills in Montauk. Pro tip: bring a 50-amp to 30-amp adapter, plus a basic water pressure regulator, since older Long Island campground hookups can vary in fittings and pressure.
parks.ny.gov/parks/122/details.aspxWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Cedarhurst?
Modern campervan and motorhome rental Cedarhurst options come surprisingly well-equipped. Expect a real bed (often a queen), a kitchen with a fridge, two- or three-burner propane stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware. Most Class C motorhomes and larger rigs have a bathroom with a toilet and shower, air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, outdoor awning, and a generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi is hit or miss because rural Long Island coverage varies, so plan for a personal hotspot if you're working remotely. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities checklist closely and message the host to confirm specifics like linens, towels, and outdoor chairs, many include these in a starter kit on request.
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons can I get with my Cedarhurst RV rental?
Hosts in the Cedarhurst area offer plenty of useful extras to customize your trip. Common add-ons include kitchen kits (pots, dishes, utensils), bedding and towel packages, outdoor chairs and tables, portable grills, bike racks, generators for off-grid camping, and child car seats. Delivery and pickup service is a popular add-on, often within a set radius of Cedarhurst for a per-mile fee. Festival-Friendly listings are clearly marked if you are planning a trip to events like Governors Ball or Montauk Music Festival. Pickup is usually scheduled mid-morning so the host has time to prep between bookings. Pro tip: bundle your add-ons during the initial booking conversation, many hosts will work with you when you book several extras together.
rvezy.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and handled entirely through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash or personal checks to the host. You pay your booking total (rental rate, fees, taxes, and any add-ons) by credit card through RVezy, and the host receives payment after your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup, the amount is shown clearly on the listing before you commit, and it is released after the host inspects the RV at return. To avoid any hold-ups, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and again at drop-off. Pro tip: keep all communication with your host inside the RVezy app, which protects both sides if any question comes up about the deposit later.
